Need to shift the weight quickly

Lights22 · 18/12/2025 10:22

They've switched my meds so now I've put on a ton of weight. I really dislike it as I have an overhang on my belly and I have rings around my neck (which look horrific on Zoom calls).

I know the best method for weight loss is diet and exercise but, realistically, that's not going to be an option for a while.

What else can I do? What helps in the short term for quick weight loss? Thanks

Skip the exercise and focus on diet. Eating much less - no processed shit, eat high protein. no other magic option, sorry.

Purplewarrior · 18/12/2025 10:49

Mounjaro?

ShawnaMacallister · 18/12/2025 10:50

The only way to lose fat is to be in a calorie deficit. If you can't do that, you won't lose weight.

OrlandointheWilderness · 18/12/2025 10:54

Could you give us a bit more info? Weight and height etc?

SilenceInside · 18/12/2025 12:29

Weight loss is about 80% diet, so if you can't exercise at the moment it isn't going to be a huge problem.

It depends by what you mean by "in the short term". There's nothing that will help you lose weight in a few days. But in a few weeks you could certainly make a difference. You could try the Fast 800 diet plan, which is designed for fast results. Is it just the idea of starting a diet in the run up to Christmas that's the issue?

You could also look at trying to improve your sleep quality if that's an issue, and to reduce your stress levels too, as they can both impact your ability to lose weight.

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 18/12/2025 12:33

You can’t lose weight without dieting, whether it’s on mounjaro or not.

dizzydizzydizzy · 18/12/2025 12:44

You don't have to exercise to lose weight. I am too unwell to exercise and have lost 80lb since November 2024. I am eating more veg and pulses, nuts and seeds, much less red meat, more fish, more olive oil, more fermented foods like kefir and kimchi and much less in the way of sweet treats and also far fewer carb heavy foods like potato and pasta. One thing that I think has made a big difference is swapping my breakfast, so instead of porridge I'm having chia seed pudding.

NewtonsCradle · 18/12/2025 12:56

Have large portions of meat or fish in your meals. Go to bed soon after dinner so you aren't sitting around snacking in the evening.

TaffetaPhrases · 18/12/2025 12:57

Keto.
im 51 and have managed to shift 10lbs in two weeks - it’s all I’ve done.

kalokagathos · 18/12/2025 12:58

Stop eating

Bookaholic73 · 18/12/2025 13:02

Jeez, what’s up with some of these comments!?

OP, don’t stop eating, don’t try keto and don’t do 800 cals a day.

To lose weight, you just need to be in a calorie deficit. No exercise needed (although advised), but also no super quick results.

Ramblingaway · 18/12/2025 13:03

It depends on the meds. If it's steroids or antipsychotics then getting the weight off is going to be tricky given how hungry they make you feel. Have you discussed alternative meds with your doctor?

NowThatsWhatICallRecent · 18/12/2025 13:03

Calorie counting - find your TDEE, work out a realistic calorie deficit, and stick to it.

Up your exercise levels if you can to boost results, but diet is the critical thing.

You can achieve a large loss in the first week as your body uses up stored fluid, but 1-2lbs a week is realistic after that.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Keto, it’s not all bacon and eggs you know. 🙄

Keeps insulin level
Moderates satiety hormones
Gets rid of water and inflammation which I do because if a knee injury.

Another vote for keto. I was amazed how fast the weight dropped off when we started in June. Fat burns fat. DH and I have lost nearly 3 stone each in 6 months.

Agreed.

Eat the same thing every day
Drink 2 l water.

A sample would be

B:0% greek yog berries chair seeds and Flax
L: seeded wrap pesto chicken breast spinach and Greek yoghurt
D: piece of fish and 2 - 3 portion of veg

(You need to weigh and calc macros calculated for breakfast and lunch. 500g yoghurt is 2.5 days etc. I'd often preportion it)

I basically ate this for months....it works and is easy but a bit boring

Weightloss starts in the kitchen not the gym

Focusispower · 18/12/2025 13:08

Honestly Mounjaro is an excellent. If you can afford it and have no clinical reason to avoid it then it really works.

RollOnSunshine · 18/12/2025 13:33

Turn the camera off.

SilenceInside · 18/12/2025 13:43

I think suggesting a prescription obesity medication is a little presumptive given that the OP has not said whether she is actually obese or not.

Lights22 · 18/12/2025 19:33

Thank you for taking the time to reply. BMI 33 🫣

It's been useful to read that diet is primary over exercise, but as one PP said, the reality is there's so much delicious food at Christmas. No reason I couldn't still start tracking caleries and looking into some of your suggestions ready for the right time to start. And on days there's less food around then try to control myself then.

It's possible I may need talking therapies to help me with this as eating is a habit including at work as a distributor 🙄 company policy is cameras have to be on at all times in a meeting, which I get for engagement.

Given she’s fat rings round her neck and a bell over hang, it was fairly obvious I think,

op, I was the same, my bmi was 32, I used mounjaro ro support my diet, if you can afford it, then I’d recommend,
