What's your body fat percentage?

Mine has fluctuated so wildly.

In 2020 it was 44%, I then did Fast 800 and it was 36%.

I then started spinning and gym classes and it was 29% in 2021.

I then got into weight lifting and it was 22% after doing a bulk and cut. At that point I was 9st 10 I think, 5 foot 6 in 2023. Looked my best since my 20s (was 43).

I hated doing the cut and then gradually lost track with eating enough protein. Its now end of 2025 and I'm 13 stone and my body fat percentage is 40%. I'm so annoyed at myself.

In the New Year I'm going to switch to 1650 calories, balanced macros (goodbye croissants, pizza, crisps, chocolate desserts), more veg.

Plus get back into exercise again (consistency being the key). I'm not bothered about super low body fat percentage, but would like it to just stay at the same level for once in my life!

My scales currently say I’m 26% BMI 23 but that’s down from 40% and BMI 32 in Jan. my normal weight throughout adult life has sat about half a stone heavier until the last few years’ massive peri weight gain so I am guessing my ‘normal’ body fat was more like 30% but I only started using scales that tell me this year.

I’m aware the % values from scales are unreliable but they help to see trends. Does anyone know what impact body shape has? I always wonder if mine read fat % high as I’m pear shaped and the electrical signal only runs through lower half of the body on bathroom scales - any other pear shapes seen a difference with scales elsewhere with handles to get an even reading? I’ve not tried any yet. My upper body has a lot less fat that it’s not averaging out over!

Popcorn76 · 17/12/2025 05:43

Scales say 15%, DEXA scan says 25%, so I really wouldn't trust the scales. BMI is 19.

unsync · 17/12/2025 07:13

Mine was 49.8 in December 2023. I've lost 50 kgs since then and it's now 27.8. I have literally halved. I was a size 24-26 and am now a 12.

It's not been easy and the gym is my second home. I am still surprised by how little food you actually need to eat. Portion control has made a big difference, but is hard to get my head around after overeating for years.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 17/12/2025 07:15

About ten million at this point.

CortieTat · 17/12/2025 08:22

I like the old US Navy method, at least in my case the result seems more realistic than my scales and it’s 22.7% - I am very fit but not a professional athlete. It takes sex, weight, height and body circumferences at three different places into account: https://www.calculator.net/body-fat-calculator.html

Body Fat Calculator

This free body fat calculator estimates body fat percentage based on the U.S. Navy Method and the BMI method. It gives the loss needed to reach ideal body fat.

So there are 100,000 of you?

AbundanceofKatherines · 17/12/2025 21:04

My BMI is 21.8 and my fat %age (according to my scales) is 32.8%. I run 3 x per week, do a weekly kettlebells class, 2 x body pump, 3 x yoga/Pilates & lbt. I wear size 8 clothes and am (now) slim & muscular. How can I be 33% fat?

bignewprinz · 17/12/2025 21:07

@AbundanceofKatherines Unless the scales are reporting high visceral fat, I think that must be wrong.

The scales have my visceral fat at 5 🤷‍♀️. But thank you, I’m taking it with a pinch of salt. It is going down (was 38% in September - with a BMI of 24) and muscle is going up (22% in September and 29% now), so I’ll just keep plodding on at the gym. I shall be happy once my muscle %age is higher than my fat!

bignewprinz · 17/12/2025 22:41

@AbundanceofKatherines Here's what mine say (ignore heart rate - i'd just necked a strong coffee).

What's your body fat percentage?
bignewprinz · 17/12/2025 22:43

Further down the page it also says 'body type: plump' 😁

😳 Rude!

My scales only give me a few readings: weight, BMI, fat %, muscle %, visceral number and RM (whatever that is). Perhaps I need some new scales for Christmas.

CrazyGoatLady · 17/12/2025 23:14

Mine went down to 18.5 after a period of weight loss and fairly strict gym regime. It's probably gone up a bit now after coming off WLI and a period of a lot of life stuff and less consistent exercise.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 17/12/2025 23:25

22% my BMI is 20, weight 8st5lb height 5'5". I am 47, do probably 4 hours of intense exercise a week, a mix of strength training and HIIT. My weight always stays the same regardless of what I eat and what exercise I do.

A greater proportion of weight is made up of fat. So the remaining % will be muscle tissue and bone mass.

It's quite hard to lose weight without losing muscle mass at the same time, which then means a greater % is body fat. And quite hard to build new muscle mass unless intentionally eating in a surplus and doing progressive overload.

I'm going to address my fat % in the new year! Not coming back on this thread as far too depressing 🤣

Gymbunny2025 · 20/12/2025 15:21

24.3%. I’m toned but don’t lift heavy. Probably should!

Hunstanton · 20/12/2025 15:25

30%. Am 48 and weigh 9st: height 5ft 3inch.

Horrorscope · 20/12/2025 15:52

DinoLil · 16/12/2025 17:59

Probably 99%...

Mine’s 50% fat (and 50% sugar)!

This is depressing 🤣

I think mine was quite low in my 20s, then I went abroad and ate lots of fried donuts. I never managed to lose that so that's when my balance tipped I think.

I've done a few diets and the thing is that you never put muscle back (unless being intentional) when weight goes back on, just fat, so that's where the % goes up.

I think I'm going to have be really intentional to get it back down to maybe 28-30% again.

Stay there for a while and then introduce more lifestyle changes.

I suppose I could just go all out and just do F800 diet again, and get it down to about 25%. But I'd lose a lot of the muscle gains.

I’m genuinely intrigued as to how many donuts you ate and in what space of time?!

Waitingfordoggo · 20/12/2025 20:20

Mine is around 20% as standard, has been as low as 17 but no higher than about 22. I lift weights most days and do lots of yoga.

CNDflag · 21/12/2025 09:48

26.7 according to my scales this morning
