What made you want to lose weight?

For me, I had gained so much weight that I had a spare tyre. I had never had an actual new appendage before. For the first time I couldn’t suck it in or hide my gut with styling. I literally just had to accept it was there and allow my clothes to cling to it. It was mortifying.

I also found when I bent down I was having to split my thighs open (if I crouched) to accomodate my gut. I felt humiliated every time I did it.

40 pounds down and it’s gone. I’m back to an hour glass.

It’s been a very slow process but I’ve made some significant lifestyle changes.

“Dont let perfect get in the way of good” has been my mantra with exercise and weight loss.

Congratulations!

I am currently struggling with the spare tyre myself- need to re-motivate myself ☹️

Well done! How did you do it?

It’s a very boring answer but I just found meals that i actually do enjoy. I do make sure they are protein heavy but I’ve not cut out carbs. Ie I’ll now have a jacket potato with a bit of butter instead of the mac and cheese etc.

I came up with about 10 meals that I enjoy (salmon burgers, chicken schwarma, Big Mac salad) and just rotate. I found once I got into the swing of things it became easier cause the weight loss was so rewarding. First 10 pounds were definitely the hardest.

If I’m having a sweet craving I go for an Exotic Solero (only 100 calories) or some pineapple which I now always have to hand. If I want crisps I’ll go for a bag of worsts or quavers.

Couldn't do anything without being out of breath, having palpitations, swollen legs and falling asleep after food. I was not healthy!
BMI 36.9 to 20.

66babe · 23/11/2025 15:31

My face … I age about 10 years when I’m heavier .

Mounjaroversary · 23/11/2025 15:33

A red face constantly, out of breath on a short walk, the fear of diabetes, and a general hatred and disgust every time I looked at a photo of myself, not to mention the example I was setting my children.
I've lost 5 stone, I've used MJ and am maintaining well since I stopped, I will never go back to the way I was, my eating habits have completely changed.
I still have body hang ups but I'm healthy, so it's been so worth the hard road it took to get here.

Waitaminutewheresmejumper · 23/11/2025 15:33

I complimented a woman on her dress - she thanked me and said, "I've recently lost a lot of weight and am really enjoying clothes again - I was your size and shopping was not a fun experience". Obviously a bit rude, but I was more outraged that I'd thought she was really fat and I wouldn't have said I was bigger than her. Went home, weighed myself, ordered mounjaro there and then.

That’s outrageous! I agree. I was also sick to death of the occasional, rude comments.

A great Aunt told me I needed to go the gym and eat more fruit. Sick of people commenting!

Did you not have to go to your gp?

I have pretty much always been overweight, obese or morbidly obese as an adult and so have been in a permanent state of wanting to lose weight! Sometimes managed it, mostly it’s gone back on again and then more.

This time, I had to attend a family event and wear a formal dress type outfit. I’d avoided them for a long time, but this was unavoidable and I had to buy a dress in size 24, which still only just fit despite being stretchy. Plus I hated it and hated how I looked. I also knew that it was seriously affecting my health and day to day life. I barely moved, I snored badly, swollen legs, high BP barely controlled by increasing medication.

After the family event, I decided to try Mounjaro and it’s been life changing. 10st 7lbs down so far. Most people who get Mounjaro are accessing private prescriptions, so it’s nothing to do with NHS GPs.

oldestmumaintheworld · 23/11/2025 16:25

I got fed up with being fat and not being able to wear all the lovely clothes in my wardrobe. I also started to get pain in my knees having been fit as a fiddle all my life.
MJ for me. It's been great. 3 stone down in 20 weeks.

StewkeyBlue · 23/11/2025 16:28

Covid.

Being obese was a risk factor. And the only one I could do anything about.

So it was a catalyst for losing weight and gaining health and fitness.

MirrorMirror1247 · 23/11/2025 16:33

For me, it's simply a case of not being happy with my body. I did Slimming World a few years ago and lost 2.5 stone, I was happy with that and weirdly I loved the feeling of my clothes hanging off me! Sadly I put the weight back on so I'm back at Slimming World, half a stone off so far. Like a PP I have some nice clothes I'd like to be able to wear!

PermanentTemporary · 23/11/2025 16:35

A very old and dear friend messaged me privately offering to talk through her experience with weight loss injections if I wanted.

And I realised that my tiny little comfort blanket fantasy of one day running into an old flame of mine had become really difficult to think about because I didn’t want to see him looking disappointed and a bit repulsed.

3.5 stone off now.

Brou · 23/11/2025 16:37

Please can i ask the people on MJ how any calories they roughly average daily and much exercise they do?

My weight loss has been very slow (PCOS). Can’t say it’s not tempting to have a helping hand to get that bit off!

Finding out I was prediabetic, for at least 2.5 years, found out when I changed GP and they updated the app. I was a 14-16 didnt even think it was possible at that size. Realised my ethnicity makes me overweight just above bmi 23. Ordered mounjaro asap.

Combination of GP telling me to as my BP was sky high, and just 3 stone overweight wasn’t good in my 50s. And also realising how unfit I’d got. I was avoiding the tricky step in the garden that’s too high…

18 months on I’ve still got a stone and a half to go, but I’m so much fitter as going to the gym, the step holds no fear! Diet is better, it wasn’t bad at its core but I was snacking way too much. I eat More protein, more fibre. Drink Less alcohol.

im feeling rough at the moment as been flu ridden for 3 weeks, but i am looking forward to getting back to the routine of the gym.

the exercise was a great idea for me, but cutting out the snacking and paying attention to my diet is what lost the weight. I now need to cut down further on snacks and sort out portion size.

Disturbia81 · 26/11/2025 09:46

So many things.. but one I remember is that I was taking up the whole aisle in little corner shops. I’d see someone coming and think I was making room for them but they still had to say excuse me, then struggle past me. I have a friend who is the same weight I was and I can see it from everyone elses angle now.
I hated taking up so much space physically, while my personality was tiny. It’s swapped round now.
I lost 9 stone in 9 months and have kept it off for 7 years. The ability to be able go go through life taking up a small space keeps me from stuffing my face!

My DS is an A and E doctor , he'd seen too many overweight people die during Covid . He said lose weight or you will die! I've gone from BMI 30 to 22

jeomeollibyeoldul · 26/11/2025 14:01

congratulations, you've done a brilliant job.

firstly, health reasons. i was about 30-40 pounds heavier than my usual weight that i was used to for my adult life so far. i found i was sometimes having heart palpitations, stomache aches especially in the morning, and feeling dizzy whenever i had to stand and do mild activity for a long period of time. absolutely hated it so the extra weight had to go. these things have not happened once since i lost ~20 pounds (and still going). i'm sure my insides have thanked me for the reduction in refined sugar and junk and the increase in fresh fruit, veggies, fish and meat.

secondly, my clothes. i absolutely hate not fitting into my clothes anymore, especially my favourites. it feels so wasteful and i am loathe to spend money on new clothes when i have perfectly good ones already. i fit into all of them now, even my old jeans.

I’ve struggled with my weight since my teens (50 now). At the start of the year I was diagnosed with high cholesterol, and had just lost a friend to a heart attack at 49. Both my kids have additional needs, and I knew I needed to give myself the best chance of being around as long as possible. 4 stone down now, feel a million times better. Still
a way to go, but I’d rather do it slowly and make sure it’s a healthy lifestyle change.

TheRealGoose · 28/11/2025 12:47

High blood pressure that was effectively medication resistant. I also started bordering on pre diabetic and my cholesterol was increasing. I also had sleep apnea. I was an event waiting to happen.

i went on mounjaro, as I couldn’t get the weight off. I had increased cortisol due to menopause, which led in turn to poor insulin management, laying down clucose as fat, and I obviously never slept well due to the apnea. It was a vicious circle I couldn’t get out of.

i also looked like I was pregnant, my stomach very round and extended, and my face was bloated with double chins.

my bmi was 32 at its highest, I’m now over six stone down, bmi 20, all health issues resolved and blood tests show everything in the healthy range, as I protected muscle as far as possible during the weight loss phase, I look toned and fit, you can see muscle definition.

any loose skin I had when I hit goal, which was under my backside, my arms the worst, and a little on my tummy when I twisted, with a turkey neck, has now also completely resolved, even my neck has tightened up and is tight, I’m in my fifties,

im in maintenance for several months now, I’m staying on a low dose, weight is stable, I lost about 1.5 lbs a week on average, I exercise 6 days out of seven, and ensure I eat adequate protein.

I had no side effects and it’s been a hugely positive experience for me. The difference with the drug is not just all the health benefits ie cardio vascular, kidney, liver, as well as blood sugar and insulin management, it is weight loss is consistent, ie you know the weight is coming off, it is just time.
