BMI not high enough for GLP1

Does anyone here have advice on how to get GLP1 meds privately if your BMI isn’t high enough? I just want a small dose to drop a few pounds and maintain that state.

Can i ask how much microdosing costs? I'm 53 and have put on 2 stone due to menopause, mostly around the middle. My BMI is 28

Yes. I pay £190 a month with Healand and in two months have lost all the peri weight I gained around my middle. I feel fantastic.

How much of the drug do you get for that?

It's "above board" in the sense that it is a licensed clinic with registered HCPs, but they are prescribing this medication off licence and not for obesity. That means that they are wholly responsible for any negative outcomes, and would be looking at disciplinary action against them if they were found to be prescribing in a way likely to cause harm, by the GMC, the GPhC or the NMC whichever is appropriate.

There is still supposed to be a medical reason for prescribing when it is against the terms of the licence, that is documented and justified - as in appropriate compared to other potential treatments.

You don’t need to lose weight you need to learn to love your body 🤷‍♀️

I fully understand where you're coming from OP. I have known people increase their weight to get the jabs so they can reduce their weight. It seems madness but you don't have to be bmi 30 to be battling constant food noise and unable to lose weight.

I do struggle to see how it could be dangerous for a bmi 26 to take it and not a bmi 26 who started at bmi 30.

I'm sure other countries prescribe to lower bmis so maybe in a few years there'll be data as to whether it is harmful.

It's less risky for an obese person to keep taking it at BMI 22 than for someone to start at 24 and get to 22, because the obese person is far more likely to regain the weight than the BMI24 person is to get obese. It's preventative maintenance.

I don't mean stop when their BMI is 29 but what about BMI 20. Should anyone with a lower end of normal BMI really be taking WLM when there's no more weight to lose.

Tell me you don't understand obesity without telling me...

obesity is a disease. It damages the body and the damage is not repaired simply by losing weight. So an obese person can lose weight with WLI but if they stop taking it they are highly likely to regain the weight. Taking it for maintenance is preventative medicine.

@DanceDanceRevolutions that’s interesting. Do you experience the effects of it properly (I’m thinking food noise and appetite suppression really) if you only microdose though?

DanceDanceRevolutions · 20/11/2025 22:32

(I’m thinking food noise and appetite suppression really)

Appetite suppression, definitely. I don't think I really had "food noise" before; not like people talk about on these threads anyway.
What it's made most difference to is the insulin resistance symptoms I was experiencing though.

All GLP meds are private.
