Ideal weight ?

How do you know your Ideal weight?
I hope this isn't a silly question.

I'm 5ft 5
Sw 11.9
Current weight is 10.13

For most of my life before children I've been 9stone/ 9.5 but I don't know if that would now be my ideal weight. As I've had children I am more curvy and wider so maybe that's too small? Or not achievable? I don't want to forever be trying really hard to achieve or maintain a weight. I also don't want to age myself. I'm early thirties so fingers crossed that doesn't happen.

Obviously I will carry on slowly losing and see what feels good to me.
I'm aware I've got no idea what I look like if that makes sense. I stopped weighing myself for a good few years got so caught up in raising children. Then was amazed I had put on so much weight. I wear loose clothes so it wasn't a case of oh my jeans don't fit anymore to give me clues I was creeping up 🙈

I also have diastasis recti so a big round tummy is my norm and won't be going anywhere even with losing weight. At some point I need to pay for reconstructive surgery.

I'm 5'4 and was always around 8 st 10 before children. I'm now 8 st 7 after 4 children and I'm definitely not too small! My hips are wider so I actually look heavier then I did pre kids. I'm also 44 so general aging and gravity play a part.

I think whatever weight you feel comfortable at and can maintain is the best for you but I don't think you'd be too small at 9 and 1/2 stone.

You know when you get there, I thought bmi 23, but I ultimately decided on 20 and have been there for the last 6 months, I like my appearance, but I’m very toned, you can see muscle definition and muscle on my arms, thighs, and stomach. I’m mid fifties and I have a very narrow frame, narrow shoulders narrow hips,long legs, short torso.

aim for one weight and when you get there, if happy then maintain, it’s a personal choice, to what feels best for you, both for health and appearance. But you won’t really know till you get there.

I’m just over 8st at 5ft2 and will lose a little more. BMI 20 is about right for me. It means I can lose or gain half a stone and still be comfortably at a healthy bmi.

I always thought BMI of 24 was right for me but now I'm feeling happy at 22.5 with a waist of 29". I've never quite found where my body wants to settle as since my 20s I've yo-yo'd up and down quite a bit. I'm 5' 9".

A useful calculation I grew up with was your height in cm, minus 110, which should give you your ideal weight in kg.

So 172cm - 110 = 62 kg

I'm not quite so svelte these days but it was a useful guideline when I was younger. Now I'm more like subtract 100-105.

Men only subtract 100 from their height in cm.

I don’t know that that works well, it would put me at 7st10, which is a bmi of around 19. Within healthy, but very much at the bottom wns.

I'm 159 cm so would leave me weighing 49kg or 7st 10lbs and bmi 19.4. I'd be skin and bones 🙈
Maybe it only works if height is above a certain value lol
OP NHS bmi calculator gives a recommended weight, but in the end its what you feel is right.

that would mean I need to weigh 37kg as I’m 4 foot 10 inches. That’s 5 stone 11 pounds, a bmi of 17 !!!!

I’m 11 kilos more than that (7 stone 7) and my bmi is 21.

Yes, I think it goes weird if you're short (by the standards of my country of birth). I'm quite tall in the UK and come off lightly. I look at photos from my childhood though, and everybody is whippet thin, lean and glowing with good health on a diet rich in animal proteins and greens.

That could work for me, if gives me a bmi if 23 exactly, it is currently 20 and I am happy here, but I can see why it would work, it’s upper end of a healthy bmi, which goes from 18,5 to 24.9, so I’m not sure it’s ideal, but is a healthy weight.

Yes and different frames, I have a friend who technically is the same as me, height and weight, but she has a very broad frame, and I have a very narrow one, for example her back and shoulders are broad, so she struggles in a size ten jacket.it pulls across her shoulders. Where as I can easily slip a size 6 on, ( although it wouldn’t do up round my stomach or boobs obvs) But she looks a lot thinner than me, a lot thinner, I have more muscle and more fat too I think,

also I’ve maintained my weight for six or seven months now, and been eating protein and working out, I’ve dropped two percentage points in body fat, but my weight stayed the same, so I have gained it back in muscle. So I actually look leaner, and people think I’ve lost more weight, I haven’t, but I have dropped body fat.

The NHS says my ideal weight is between 8stone and 10 stone 10. I'm currently 10.12 so not far to dip into my ideal weight and I'll just see how I feel.
I think I have a petite but curvy frame so boobs and bum. I feel 8 stone wouldn't feel or look right on me. Maybe around 9.5 might give me some wiggle room for fluctuations.

I think I've spent a while now weighing more it's seemed unachievable to weigh a lot less. Hopefully overtime my head and body will be on the same page.

I'm 5"5 and feel my most comfortable at 8.10 it's getting harder to stay at this weight at 41. As long as there's an 8 on the scales I feel svelte and my clothes fit well
