Just thought I'd share my experience as I couldnt find anything myself when looking. Bit of history I've always been a big girl and got a gastric band 6 years ago which I had to get taken out 4 months ago due to it becoming majorly infected. Bands are a big no no now which weren't too heard of before. Having a tool for so long and then being told its getting taken out in 2 days as an emergency .. I panicked. For past few months I was eating every minute of being awake. As soon as I would finish eating I would want more. Excessive eating just not feeling satisfied. Cut junk food out did everything but still no. Yes I know CD is the only way to lose but I can track all I want If I have have a problem with binge eating then I need to tackle that. I got offered more surgery as I paid for the first so I qualified but before I say yes to that I wanted to try acupuncture and mounjaro.

I had a session today and wow has it worked quickly. I know its not a placebo as I got it done a month ago and it did nothing so went to another person. She targeted more spots and said I need to go for a walk about 30 45 mins after I eat and I wont feel hungry. I got busy and ended up going 90 minutes later, whilst thinking about what I would be eating when I came back. After 15 minutes of walking I felt a weird sensation of fullness. Like id had a big meal. It was so weird. Whilst typing this I just dont feel hungry. By now I would have had 5 plus meals, a packet of biscuits, chocolates, pots of yoghurts and more. No pain at all either and I feel good after such a long time. I just hope my energy levels improve. Thankyou for reading anyway 🙂

I’ve not used acupuncture for weight loss but I used it to stop smoking many years ago, and then more recently for slipped disc / sciatica pain whilst I was waiting for surgery. I think if you find the right acupuncturist it’s the most amazing and powerful therapy. I had three sessions when I stopped smoking, after smoking 20-30 a day, and have never had the slightest craving since - it was like turning off a tap. And I couldn’t have got through the pain from my back without acupuncture - the maximum dose of codeine, naproxen, and paracetamol helped enough for me to get out of bed, but acupuncture improved the pain enough for me to go out to work, sit up, and drive again. I’ve no doubt at all that it will help you enormously with weight loss.

I had it for a slipped disc too-my NHS physio did it. I was really sceptical about it but was in so much pain I was ready to try anything. It was amazing, the relief was instantaneous. No idea how it works but it does!

I've never had acupuncture but always wanted to try it. Where do they insert the needles? Is it all over or specific areas?

I wasn't a big girl but I did pile on 10lbs in 5 years pre-lockdown. I ate out of comfort and it was often sweets and processed crap that got me hooked. The trick is to eat foods that are high in protein (protein satisfies your appetite) and high in fibre (fills you up and keeps you full, and yes, keeps you regular ifykwim).

In the time you're not eating, you can then exercise to lose the calories.

Fundamentally, it sounds like you keep feeling hungry and you can't control your food intake. Have you got your thyroid checked? All the chemical messengers in your body are regulated by your thyroid.

I hope that's at least somewhat helpful.

I had this many years ago. I still get flare-ups now and again. I had acupuncture and I honestly think it was a placebo. Your attention is being diverted from the sciatica and focused on the needles being put in your skin. I felt tingly for a while afterwards, but the pain was always there, just being ignored. This is just my experience, everyone responds differently.

The needles are out in various parts of your body for different types of treatment. It’s common to put needles in your ear to stop smoking cravings. I had lots in my feet as well as up my leg and in my hip when I was being treated for my back.

It’s not a placebo. They do open heart surgery using acupuncture, with no anaesthetic and the patient completely awake, in china. Over there using needles is normalised. Wired up to electricity on occasion, such as heart surgery. They don’t need big pharmacy as much.

We are just trained that “western medicine is the best” and if it cannot fix something then it cannot be fixed at all full stop.

bollocks to that.

the only thing I’ve found is like all skills, some people are better than others. Good plumbers not so good plumbers, good hairdressers not so good hairdressers, good acupuncturists not so good acupuncturists.

So I’ve shopped around. It’s amazing what can be done.
