Constantly accused of weight loss jabs

I've worked incredibly hard over the last 5 months and managed to lose 2.5 stone. I'm delighted. Im healthier, I'm stronger, my mindset has changed...and yet I am constantly accused of being "on the jab".
I have no problem with people using them if it helps, but I haven't.
I used to have an ED and control is a bit thing for me. Maybe this is why it bothers me. Back when I had a figure to die for, I was making myself sick after nearly every meal. This is the first time I've managed to change my body purely with diet and exercise.
However, whenever I deny using the jab, I get accused of either lying or being judgemental. I'm neither, I'm just trying my best.

I just wish I could be proud of myself without being accused of being judgemental or a liar.

I am taking mounjaro and I am so sorry you are experiencing this. I am saying that because I have been getting shamed for taking it as a lazy way out. (it doesn't feel it if Im honest but that is another story)

I can wholeheartedly say congratulations and you should be so proud of yourself. Its is SO hard to make changes to your lifestyle and eating habits.
You know the truth and unfortunately people will judge whatever you do.

A friend of mine keeps being told 'surely you 've lost enough already' by family members who for years have ridiculed her for being significantly over weight.

Well done for all you have done and chin up, keep going!

SilenceInside · 25/10/2025 22:50

Who is accusing you so often that it’s become such an issue, and why do they feel they can also accuse you of lying and being judgemental? They sound like an awful person or people.

Why does what other people think, especially such unpleasant people, affect whether or not you are proud of yourself for sticking to your health and fitness plan?

Mainly people at work. Colleagues and customers.
My weight loss is noticeable now and it's become "small talk" to ask if I'm on the jab seemingly.

I am proud of myself but I'm being made to feel bad for denying using weight loss injections. Either I'm accused of lying or being told I'm judgemental.
It's driving me mad.

Ah thank you!
Genuinely, I'm my mind, as long as people are being safe to lose weight, then that's amazing. I know plenty of people on weight loss jabs and I'm delighted for them, but I don't feel the same back. It's just hard being always judged or accused.
I had one customer saying she could see my hair loss as proof I was on the jab...I've had no hair loss that I know of so now I'm paranoid!

If it’s work colleagues then it’s really inappropriate in the work place to be questioning you constantly about your health/body and then to also be telling you that you’re a liar or that you’re judgemental. Can you deal with that via HR at all? Or is it not that kind of workplace?

Or challenge it by asking why it matters to them how you’ve lost the weight? Because it shouldn’t, and challenging them about it may effectively make the point that it doesn’t actual matter.

FiercelyFree · 25/10/2025 23:04

I totally get you. I've had a period of intense stress which my work colleagues are aware of. I've lost 5 stone since June because of this, not because I tried. I constantly get told to stop having the jab, time to taper down etc. It's so disrespectful.
Congratulations to you and well done!

It's like "lad banta" if you know what I mean. Even if the got called in by HR they would just complain that I'm "too sensitive" and while they might stop making comments to me in the short term, they'll still make shitty comments to each other, either about jabs or my being sensitive. I'm just finding it frustrating that the option of the jab means my weight loss is "tainted"

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 25/10/2025 23:15

But it isn’t tainted just because of their poor behaviour and repeated inaccurate claims. You don’t need or want their approval in order to be proud of yourself, surely? Every time they say something about it they are marking themselves up as dicks, and reducing their status in your eyes.

EmeraldRoulette · 25/10/2025 23:53

Oh my God, that must be so annoying

I don't know what to say except I really feel for you

The trouble is, I have actually had people just the bloody jab to me! I'm losing weight painfully slowly and it's like they go to your solution for anyone who knows that I'm trying.

I hope I'm not being annoying when I ask you how you've done it. I'm about to ramp up my efforts massively!

I don't think people should be talking to you about it, but unfortunately I think any noticeable weight loss is going to result in that question now.

it's so completely bonkers because it's like people don't remember how anyone lost weight before!

How many of these people could do with dropping a few pounds themselves?

Weight loss is often treated like this. I think you've done something many people would love to do but can't. That's why there has to be a 'reason' for it, other than good old fashioned hard work.

You're doing great. If they don't like it, that's tough. Not your problem.

I lost weight many years ago (10s8lb - 8st10b) and only one person made a positive comment. She said, ''wow, you look better than ever''.

I overheard my parents talk about 'the slimmer' but never acknowledged it to me. Friends who ignored it completely unless I mentioned it. Someone told me I'd look better when I put it back on again. Someone outright said she was jealous. Another said she'd noticed I'd got fat previously. I was told my face looked awful..... On and on.

Ignore them OP. Come here for encouragement and seek out real life people who won't throw scorn on your achievement. It's not tainted by daft people who should keep their mouths shut. You made it look easy and that'll always rattle people Flowers

I did the 5:2 diet. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I think it suits my body. I did the days consecutively as I found that easier than separate days.

If you're middle aged or over, check how many calories you really need per day. There's tools online to calculate. It decreases more than you might expect with age. Maybe you aren't in as much calorie deficit as you think you are? That could be why your weight loss is slow. I was really surprised when I looked at it.

Anyway, you keep going Flowers

NoTouch · 26/10/2025 00:13

First of all weight loss medication does not ‘taint’ anyone’s weight loss. Some people need medication to control a disease, which obesity is, and some don’t. If you change your own mindset you may see it just as a question rather than an ‘accusation’.

Reply factually ‘I was able to lose the weight without needing any medication, i don’t know much about the jabs as you call them, but you seem to be putting down the achievements of those that do need them, that’s a bit unnecessary’

Then forget about the person saying it, they are not worth the mind space, you should be proud of your achievements for you, you don’t need others validation.

Alpacajigsaw · 26/10/2025 00:14

Is it an accusation or just questioning?

and does it matter? You still have to work hard to lose weight on medication

dogsnuggles · 26/10/2025 00:16

I understand that can be frustrating. However, people will think what they will think. Tell them once, if you want, that you're not on the jabs then move on. It doesn't taint your efforts and achievement because they don't want to believe you could do it without jabs.

I'm at the gym every morning before work and eating around 1400 calories a day (I'm short tbf). It took ages to get the first half a stone off but now it's coming off consistently and I actually enjoy the gym now... I feel antsy if I dont go before work.

To answer some other points, it's barbed comments if I'm "caught" was eating something "naughty". So if I chose to have a biscuit with my cuppa then it's "oh can you just jab that one away?" Or other silly comments.

I know logically that it doesn't matter and that me, my body and I know the truth, but it is very grating to be constantly accused of something, even if it is something completely reasonable! I completely understand why people have weight loss jabs and how they can help in a massive way, but for me personally I can't use them.

Perhaps I'm being overly sensitive because I have huge issues around food consumption and my weight anyways. It took me years to stop viewing food as evil. I thought I was dead clever by eating tasty things and then "getting rid"...so much cleverer than those that just didn't eat. Twisted, I know.

I just wish people could just be positive around any weight loss and not assign it to something that it isn't

Its hard to ignore I know,

I too have shifted that much weight and have been successfully keeping it off - with hard work and determination

Whilst I was open and honest that I went to SW ( still do ) I got the comments - oh SW doesnt work, minute you stop going it piles back on, you wont stick with it, they have weird ideas, teach you nothing .

Then the comments from people who I hadnt seen in ages - Have you used the jabs?

Im sure theres more then a few of my social group who think I take them as when they see me out in the pub Im drinking as normal, they see me eat a meal and clear the plate - and no I dont deny myself anything. What they dont get that that is a one off, Im out having a night out, I go off plan. Minute Im back in the door Im back on plan, making good choices and getting the exercise in.

One meal, one biscuit, its not going to make a difference, what makes the difference is what happens after .

Usually those who make the comments about the Jabs are totally ignorant about how they work

I dont care what people think or say about me , its none of my business. I know what Ive done, which I did for my benefit and my families benefit - not theirs

Just be proud for yourself.

TalkToThePawKissMyFurryButt · 26/10/2025 08:37

OP - I'm the same in so far as I have lost the best part of 3 stone this year (better not talk too soon as put a 1lb on this week!).

However I feel like everybody thinks I'm on the jabs but I'm not.

I just doing it the old fashioned way.

I still have another 3 stone to lose which I admit I think I am going to struggle with.

However if I do manage to lose it I doubt anyone will think I did it myself when in fact I did.

I try not to be bothered by what others think. At the end of the day what matters is my own health but I do know what you mean. It's like getting the credit for your hard work taken from you.

socks1107 · 26/10/2025 08:47

I’ve had similar comments and similar weight loss. It’s intrusive, nothing to do with anyone how I lost the weight but me. Well done on your loss

ThirdStorm · 26/10/2025 08:49

I’m sorry your colleagues are suggesting if you were on jabs it must somehow mean your achievement is not as good as it is. Great effort, well done!

For most of us on jabs, we’ve had to work hard on food choices, diet plans and exercise and continue to do so and probably will forever, there is a reason we’re fat! The jabs boosted my willpower absolutely and meant I kept at it longer than I’d done on the many other diet attempts.

keep going, try to ignore the gossip, it’s just jealousy that your doing so well.
