What weight at 5’7 did you stop having an overhang?

I’m nearly down to 11 stone post pregnancy (I was 9.5 before but went up to 12 due to not being able to move for a lot of it). I still have an overhang on my tummy. When did you stop having an overhang at 5’7? I’m worried it’ll never go!!

I'm only 5'2 but I have been very fit and slim and my "baby" is now almost 18 yo and I have never got rid of a wee overhang. However I have c section scar tissue so I think this has made it impossible to get rid of (unless I went for cosmetic surgery). Hopefully yours is different but if not it's really not as bad as you think, you get used to it. Feeling at home with your postpartum body is a big adjustment though, be kind to yourself and remember you made a whole new human with your body!

Partridgewell · 12/10/2025 07:55

Not sure this is actually to do with weight but with shape. I'm 5'7 and have never had an overhang even though I've weighed more than you do currently. Have you had a C-section? Do you naturally carry weight on your tummy? These two things will impact an overhang more than your weight, I think.

Annoying but we all have irritating things about our shape. I am your height and currently ten stone three but I still have a really wobbly bum and thighs, as that's where I carry all my excess weight.

Thanks both for replying. I do naturally carry weight on my tummy and I did have a c section. Maybe I should start saving for a tummy tuck 🥲

I’m 5’6 and my stomach got flattish at around 10 stone. However the overhang is likely due to the c section and your surgeon sewing it up too tight, unfortunately.

greengreyblue · 12/10/2025 08:03

It’s not the weight. If you had a c section it’s the muscle cut I believe. I had two vaginal births and got to 11 stone at 5ft 5 in pregnancy having been 9.5 previously and when weight came off, no overhang. Didn’t have one after the births either, just a bigger abdomen which gradually shrank with breast feeding and walking. I’m 54 now and it still doesn’t overhang at 10st. I’m not sure what you can do but k ow several people with this problem. Is it supposed to go flat again?

CortieTat · 12/10/2025 08:05

It’s more about how toned your belly and pelvic floor are and if your belly muscles are still separated after pregnancy than a certain weight point.

Lifejigsaw · 12/10/2025 08:22

It can be weight - I went from 16 stone to 10 stone at the same height, and still have an overhang. Never been pregnant so it’s not that! I have clear abs at the top from exercise but still an overhang at the bottom

HappyAsASandboy · 12/10/2025 09:03

I am 5’8” and have had three c sections. I have had an overhang since my first c section 15 years ago (last c section 5 years ago).

I recently lost 3 stone and am now firmly in the middle
of the “healthy” BMI range. Overhang is still there.

I used to think I’d get a tummy tuck one day, but having looked in to the recovery I have made peace with my overhang instead!

Livedandlearned · 12/10/2025 09:07

Have a look at c section adhesions and how scar massage and block therapy can help. I’ve just started on a 24 year old c section scar and I’ve noticed a difference already!

socks1107 · 12/10/2025 09:12

I’m 19 years past my last baby but still have an overhang unfortunately. No c sections

Zempy · 12/10/2025 09:13

I’m 5:4 and weigh 8:9. I still have a slight overhang tummy.

No C sections and 25 years since last child born!!!

Isabelleplant · 13/10/2025 16:47

Everyone’s body is a bit different, but for most people the overhang has more to do with skin elasticity and muscle separation than just the number on the scale. I’ve heard Dr. Chris Davis mention that sometimes, after weight changes or pregnancy, the skin just doesn’t tighten fully on its own, so even at goal weight, a small overhang can stick around. You’re doing great though, and it can keep improving over time as your body settles!

gertrudemortimer · 13/10/2025 18:18

I’m 5’9 I had a C-section and overhang by the scar . I’m under 57kg and mine is gone, if I go over that I start to notice a bit of it coming back. I really think the skin needs time to tighten and get back together. My section was 9 years ago

Countrylife2002 · 13/10/2025 18:22

You don’t want a tummy tuck. I went quite far towards one due to having had a mastectomy and pulled out as it didn’t sound fun - also risk of losing belly button and I’m quite attached to mine. It’s not a small op.

TheChosenTwo · 13/10/2025 18:33

I’m 5’7 and weigh 10 stone, I still have a tiny one and my last child was born 14 years ago.
im fit and active but it’s just there. Only noticeable when I’m naked really so not many people see it!
