What to do when weight loss slows down?

shephardspieontoast · 08/10/2025 07:49

I only had a stone to loose, lost 7 pounds very easily but the last 7lb just won't shift.

My normal day I fast from 7pm at night to 12pm the next day

Lunch is a yoghurt 150 calories
Raspberries 150 calories
Maybe a banana as an afternoon snack
Tea is a weight watchers ready meal at around 350 calories
3 bottles of flavoured water at 5 calories each so 15 calories

Total calories: 665

I could cut the banana but that doesn't seem like a lot of food without it. Can anyone give me some tips?

Where’s the protein? For every kilo you weigh you should be eating a gram of protein!
The fist 7lbs were most likely fluid!

kittiecat16 · 08/10/2025 13:03

As others have said check out a TDEE calculator for a better idea of how much you should be eating for your activity levels.

I’d hazard a guess your metabolism is in starvation mode so will be retaining as much calorific value and fat as possible

You aren’t eating enough or taking on sufficient calories or nutrients

HorrorFan81 · 08/10/2025 13:45

For everyone talking about starvation mode there is no evidence this exists. I found this article useful Starvation Mode: Is It A Myth? Is It Real? Is Your Body In It Now? https://share.google/HfLHlg7f66REfL85P

Its more likely OP is eating more than she has written here, either through 'hidden' calories like drinks, oil, spreads etc. Or is coming off plan at weekends and is going over calories due to under eating all week

Starvation Mode: Is It A Myth? Is It Real? Is Your Body In It Right Now?

Are you eating less calories and working out, but still not losing weight? Maybe you're in starvation mode. Find out of it's real or just another myth.

I would at least double your calorie intake, but make it from healthy whole foods, focusing on protein, and start lifting. That was the only way I could get the last 7-10 pounds off. Bonus was that I built lots of muscle, so I looked and felt better.

Twitchy eye whenever I see starvation mode. I’m sure it’s a thing for someone who has a long history of calorie restriction, otherwise anorexia wouldn’t be a thing.
Whenever I see posts like this I always think the calories aren’t being tracked accurately or truthfully, I’ve been there myself. Eating 650 calories consistently will have you very underweight and unwell, not stuck with weight to loose.

I wonder what made you click on the thread, given this is your only contribution. Do you just read through any subject to point out mistakes? I bet you have a big red pen in your pencil case.

somanythingssolittletime · 09/10/2025 19:52

I do the same fasting diet. I drink loads of black coffee in the morning to get me going until lunch. Lunch is a protein-based meal, snack is fruit or some nuts, and dinner another protein based meal. I just halved my portions to what I was previously eating. I’m not tracking calories. I lost 15kg since February, no exercise at all.

InfoSecInTheCity · 09/10/2025 19:55

For responsibility sake can you please advise of your BMI or TDEE before anyone else gives diet advice. You are eating way way way below what any responsible person would advise you to eat. Very little in the way of nutrients and no where enough calories and I’m concerned that you may being encouraged in an eating disorder here.

shephardspieontoast · 09/10/2025 20:42

Thank you everyone! Really helpful. I can say I'm not stuffing my face over the weekend or secretly have 1000 calories at night!

I'm 9 stone 10 5 foot 4 for those asking.

Thanks for the info @shephardspieontoastand sorry to come in suspicious but I’ve seen too many of these threads where it turns out the OP has a BMI of 18 and the most likely reason they’re not losing weight is that there’s nothing left to lose.

based on your height and weight to maintain you would need approx 1514 calories a day, so anything under that should result in weight loss. That’s based on a sedentary lifestyle so if you’re more active than that you should have even more leeway.

I think it’s worth looking at the overall picture because a diet of less than 700 calories a day definitely should see you loosing weight so if that’s accurate then there’s something wrong somewhere.

  • Fouid - are you getting around 2 lts a day? Dehydrated people lose weight more slowly, water is used in the chemical process of breaking down fat, so if there’s not enough water that process works less efficiently.
  • Sleep - I know very few of us actually get ‘enough’ but are you? Tired people’s hormones don’t work as well.
  • Medical issues - do you have any that could be affecting your weight - thyroid, diabetes, medication that causes inflammation, peri-menopause, menopause……

Then we get onto diet. Where’s the protein and veg and good fat? It’s proportionally high carb at around 60% carb, 20% protein, 20% fat. You would do better trying to get the proportions to more 40% carb if you can. Add in some beans, lean meat, eggs, cheese, nut butters, seeds…

I think you should increase your calories to around 1200 and focus on quality of food and nutritional balance.

Pineapples198 · 08/10/2025 12:24

You’re not eating enough. On 650 calories a day your body will be in starvation mode. Minimum calories an adult should eat is 1200 when dieting. I lose weight pretty consistently on that amount

Lol that's a myth. No fat person walled out of auschwitz
