Do you want to lose weight for your body or your face?

I've always been a bit on the heavier side. But I've realised recently it's not actually my body itself that I'd like to change the look of - it's my face. It's by far more important to me. If I am on the heavier side my face is much fatter, jawline very blurred, double chin almost all the time etc. As soon as I lose some weight my face looks 100 times better.

I accidentally took a video of myself on the computer at work yesterday and when I saw it, it was a bit If a depressing wake up call...

If I could lose the weight around my face I'd not be that bothered about weight loss or getting fit.

Anyone else?

And anyone got tips for dealing with fatty face/jawline/saggy fat neck rolls and double chin? I'll keep trying to lift weights and eat healthier of course but any specific tips appreciated.

Also trying to love myself at the same time of course 😆

Eating healthy and lifting weights is great, but if you’re eating too many calories-even healthy ones-the weight won’t really shift tbh.

After losing 4+ stone I can say it really isn’t an improvement face wise. I’m now super wrinkly, the fat smoothed out my skin before! I used to look really young for my age, now I think I look older.
My stomach is also wrinkly, my bum sags and my boobs are empty balloons. I look like I have an amazing body in my size 8-10 clothes, naked I look like a deflated party balloon so be careful what you wish for!
However, losing weight means less pressure on joints, and I already have painful arthritis in most that started in my late 30’s, so there’s that benefit I suppose. My cardiovascular disease risk score is really low, as is my cholesterol & BP, so hopefully I won’t be looking at the problems my hefty DM and DGM were both inflicted with.

My face took a visible hit from weight loss and was the reason I stopped losing weight so that I didn’t look gaunt. You cannot choose where the weight is lost. If I could gain weight only in my face, I would gain it back straight away. Mine goes on my stomach though. I am not wrinkly yet but I have lost weight in the cheek/buccal fat area so I look more ‘hollow’. You lose this as you age anyway but I lost mine quicker.

But I am the fittest I’ve ever been and feel great and my test results are better than ever so it’s worth it for me

Decided I might gain a bit back in my 60’s 😂

Fitness is absolutely worth achieving, do not underestimate the long term benefits. A nice face won’t get you up off the toilet when you get frail

I recently lost weight (I’m 54) to try get rid of a belly, I wasn’t bothered about anywhere else.

A stone and a half down now - my face has suffered, I lost the small double chin, which is good, but gained a pair of jowls that make me look just like my mother and wrinkles that make me look ten years older. I think my legs are too thin now and also make me look older, especially in trousers.

The belly is infuriatingly still there, but is more in proportion now and easier to dress.

Definitely my body! My face is nice but my body is big, 100kg. My height means I don't look massive but I definitely look like a chunky mum! So depressing

Yamamm · 14/09/2025 05:37

For my health. Just that. I am happy that so look so much better in clothes two stone down (still in same old clothes though!).
I think I do look older but I’m 60 now and I believe that theory that there are certain ages where people seem to age suddenly and 60 is one of them!

Both! I much prefer how my body looks and feels when I'm a healthier weight, but I also was not prepared for how much it would change my face. I have quite small eyes that looked a bit piggy like when my face was chubbier, losing weight in my face just changed how I looked.

And I also enjoy only having the one chin!

Snorebor · 14/09/2025 22:12

I had a chubbier rounder face even when I was slimmer so yeah when I put on 4 stone gradually my face ballooned. I always wanted a slimmer face but grateful I don’t face the risk of having a gaunt face even when I lose weight since my face is on the chubby side to begin with . I have been ID’d for accepting online food deliveries and at age 31 was once mistaken for a (child) guest at my friends kids birthday party and mistaken for a child a fair few times when I worked in high schools during my late 20s/early 30s. Apparently I look very young with my big cheeks! I look much older (in a good way) when I do a light contour as that slims my face.

Currently bouncing around 10stone -10 stone 5 and I notice even a few pounds makes such a positive difference to my face.

When I was 13 stone I looked very different. My goal weight is 9 stone and I know my face will look much slimmer still, but it won’t be gaunt. I was 8 stone at one point and still wasn’t gaunt.

That said my main motivation for weight loss was definitely health.

Genuinely only for my health, physical and mental. Which I suppose is my body, but I assumed you mean the way your body looks.

Ive lost 11lb which is a tiny proportion of my body weight but I already feel miles better, have lost a couple inches on my waist, and yes my body and face look better. But I FEEL better and I don’t wake up every morning with my first thought being about how I must start losing weight!

Have lost 6 stone over the past 12 months, and have at least that to lose again… Double chin is almost gone, and I have the beginnings of a Turkey neck. I don’t care though. It’s about health for me. I’m 54 and was becoming disabled on account of my weight… it was a struggle putting on my socks & I’d be very breathless during mild activity like short walks. Joints were aching… These issues have been resolved already and I’m looking forward to the next 12 months to lose the rest of my excess weight. I honestly don’t care how it’ll affect my face, and I won’t have Botox etc either. I’m working on physical & mental health. Good luck chasing your goals. You’ll get there.
