Which scale reading to believe?

Stepped on the scales this morning and it said 11:12. Came off and stepped back on and it said 11:9. Tried again a few times and all said 11:9. Which one is more likely to be accurate? Want to know the correct one for goal dates etc.

What did you weigh last time you weighed, when was that and what kind of calorie deficit have you had since then?

TheChosenTwo · 23/08/2025 06:26

probably 11:9.
I weigh myself 3 times (on a Saturday morning just once a week, not obsessively!), I always think the first one is calibrating the scales! Not sure if this is real or I make it up but the second time I step on I’m always lighter 🤯- I then go for the middle reading or, as the second and third are usually the same, an average of the readings.

My scales do this.
I have tried a variety of brands of scales and a lot of different locations throughout the house as I think perhaps my floors vary in level.
I now stick with weighing in one spot, step on and off three times and believe the one that appears most or failing that the lowest!

Could be either one, but it doesn't matter. Individual scale measurements are only a broad indication of how much body fat you have lost or gained since you last weighed yourself, which is what you really want to know.

Your body weight varies by a few pounds due to hydration levels, body composition and how much food and waste is in your system, plus home scales aren't 100% accurate. If you lined up 10 sets of scales and got on them all one after the other, chances are they would give a range within a few pounds.

Go by how your clothes fit and how you look, and only take an indication from the number of the scales, it's not absolute.

I always go with the 2nd go as the first is always calibrating. I think it's because I move mine to standing leaning against a wall when not using them so it has to recalibrate each time.

My scales do this too! The first reading is always higher than the second. But the third is always the same as the second. Therefore I always ignore the first reading.
