Have you overcome emotional eating?

Please tell me how? I’ve gained 2 stone over the past 2 years - always been able to eat what I like, it seems age is now catching up with me! But as soon as I start to restrict in any way it’s like an alarm goes off and I end up bingeing junk or inhaling a massive bowl of cereal (in the middle of the night even!)

I’m sick of it and want to be proud of my body again. I’m just so generally overwhelmed I can’t stick at anything at all, even for a day.

if you’ve managed to overcome these tendencies please please tell me what worked

Plan your days meals and plan for some small treats. Only have what you’re going to eat in the house.

At the moment I’m trialing making a pot of sweet herbal tea when I get the nibbles (liquorice or cinnamon).

I have a family so that approach isn’t really practical

I only buy snacks for the kids that i don't like.
I started intermittent fasting.
I meal plan and count my calories over a week and won't allow myself to go over.
If I feel that need to eat I make a hot drink.
I lost 5 stone and have kept it off doing this.

@Landbeforefeelings123 wow that’s amazing! How do you organise this, any tips? Does your family eat the same meals as you?

@Landbeforefeelings123 and what IF schedule do you do? I feel like my problem is very psychological, tried counselling before to overcome it but didn’t find it helpful

A separate snack cupboard so I don't go in it/only have snacks I dont like.
Meal plan and just adapt my portion size/dont have a side or add extra vegetables to mine. My meal plan is a 3 x 10 day plans (to stop us getting board). So for example one day every 10 is pasta day but that will be one of 3 different types of sauce and I'll add salad to mine but may give kids garlic bread, pitta bread or tortilla chips. The organisation was hard-work but worth it as once its done you've got it all down. I have my meal plans in a notes app, and use my fitness pal to keep track. I put in my meals ahead of time so I know what I'm eating.
IF I did anything between 16 and 18 hours pushing breakfast as late as possible and stopping after tea. Now I'm just maintaining I tend to stick to 16 hours. The only exception i have is allowing myself a drop of skimmed milk in tea if it stops me snacking.
I also shop on line so no impulse buying.
I dont restrict myself too much but plan it into my week. So when adult dc came for lunch I did their favourite pudding and had some too (but kept it to a small piece). This got easier once I started to see results. I went from a size 14/16 to a 4/6 (I'm petite and middle of bmi healthy range).
