As no one else seems to have noticed or cared I thought I would come here to share that I am halfway to my weight goal as of today - 10kg down and 10kg to go!

has taken me 6 months but I’m trying to make lifestyle changes and I’ve also managed it while depressed (normally that knocks me off track) so I am feeling reasonably good about myself!

Wow, that's fantastic news! The second half of your journey will be so much fun as you get nearer and nearer your target; I hope you plan to treat yourself to some lovely new clothes as your old ones will be falling off you!

LadyLolaRuben · 16/08/2025 20:10

Well done OP, I hope you're feeling amazing. I've lost two stone (without the battle of depression) and no one has noticed. But I've got another 2 stone to lose and the latter half is when people notice. I'm even starting to look forward to buying new clothes x

Bruisername · 16/08/2025 20:15

My clothes are fitting at the moment - feeling like a done up sausage was part of the reason I started because I didn’t want to buy bigger clothes!!

Well done on the 2 stone Lola - it’s nice to hit the halfway point and know you can do it. I even managed not to put weight on over my holiday which is normally when all my good changes unwind!!

Well done, that’s awesome 👏

I’m 3 stone down, gone from size 18 to small size 12 and people rarely comment. I am sure people must see it but don’t know what to say so they don’t say anything. To be honest I feel embarrassed when people do comment so no one can win really🤪🫣

Good luck on the rest of your weight loss journey, I’m sure you look fabulous for the weight you have lost and if you feel better, that is most of the battle won🤩

Fishfungus · 16/08/2025 20:30

Well done you!!!

I hope you’re feeling really good with your weight loss and the last 10kg will soon come off - Slow and steady is the way to go.

Bruisername · 16/08/2025 20:33

It would be nice if my husband commented. Instead, whilst making a throwaway comment about a dress being more suited to my dd he said ‘you’d better hit the treadmill then’. Tosser.

anyway, I think cutting sugar down and reducing carbs has made a big difference to my mood as well as my waistline.

it’s nice to hear about other people successes! What changes do people feel have made the biggest difference?

Well done!!

Thank you!

Well done that's great!
I have found that it takes a long time for people to realise you have lost weight. I didn't tell anyone I was dieting and lost almost two stone before I anyone commented/noticed. I don't think people really look that closely at others.
But more importantly I noticed because I felt so much better and had much more energy. and ultimately I am doing it for myself and no one else.

Bruisername · 19/08/2025 09:12

Yes - taking control over my diet has been quite good for my mental health as it’s given me a focus

Well done you!

I have lost at least 25kg since January - not 100% sure as I didn’t weigh myself at the beginning so could be slightly more, but from a size 20 to a size 12. Today was my first day under 70kg - less than 2kg to a “normal” BMI and about 10kg to 12kg to where I hope to get to.

Nobody has commented yet, but I work from home so don’t often see work colleagues and I have no family in the UK - last seen them in March when it wouldn’t have been that noticeable yet.
DH just made a stupid comment when I mentioned something after losing about 20kg so not saying anything anymore to him.

It felt like the first 15kg were easier, going through the “70s” seemed to really drag. I hope the last 10-ish will feel easier again as the goal is in sight. I’m on holiday soon but going to the Lakes so shouldn’t put on any weight as will be doing lots of hiking!

On the one hand it feels like it would be nice for someone to say something - on the other hand, it’s also kind of nice for nobody to say anything as it sort of makes me thing that my weight was unimportant to them in the first place. Though who knows what they say behind my back ;-) I think ultimately we do it for ourselves anyway so it’s most important we notice it in every positive way we were hoping to.

Good luck for the rest of your weight loss journey!

Bruisername · 20/08/2025 21:59

Oh well done - that’s amazing weight loss! How have you done it? I’ve not really added enough exercise so need to figure that out. Sounds like we have the same goal weight too!!

whilst I’m a bit sad my DH hasn’t commented positively I also remind myself that I am doing this for me so I shouldn’t need external validation?

I have mainly cut down on rubbish really. Though I’ve also made a decision at work to take a role with less travel, I was away for between 100 and 200 days a year over the last three years so long days, unhealthy food, stress eating… and takeaways at home as I was busy enough with everything else for the few days I was at home in between! So that change has really helped, too, to make better food choices.

I also started walking a lot again - trying to get out at lunch or after work and for longer walks at the weekend. Otherwise I’m not a massively sporty person, not really found anything I enjoy other than walking.

Yes, I agree - I think we all like to get compliments, but in the end we’re doing it for ourselves. I think sometimes it may be difficult for our DHs as well, maybe they think we’re off to find someone else soon

Bruisername · 21/08/2025 07:18

So quite similar to me! I’ve tried to cut down on carbs because that’s the food I would eat way too much (particularly baguette!!) and focussed on protein (I’m vegetarian)

I have never found an exercise I enjoy tbh - even walking I just find so boring unless there is a purpose!! I need to do something though!!

OP posts:
Silverblue1985 · 21/08/2025 14:02

Same for carbs with me - I could eat a loaf of fresh sourdough bread just with butter 🙄 I’m still eating too carb-heavy but not worrying about it too much for now - it seems to work at the moment, though I need to build more muscle long term. (Not low but definitely could be stronger). Unfortunately I’ve got carpal tunnel syndrome and lifting weights, even just 2kg ones, really triggers it and I’ve got numb fingers all night so that’s a no-go for me.
Snacking is my biggest problem, working from home at least there aren’t the office temptations of cakes and the snacks my workplace provides, so I’m trying to have healthier things in my “snack drawer”. Though if I want chocolate I want chocolate and I have learnt I better eat a small square and that’s it, if I start eating other stuff instead I’ll still want it anyway.

Glad I’m not the only one re exercising. I’ve wanted to try paddle boarding, but am still too self-conscious to wear the water suit! I enjoy walking in nature, if it’s road walking I am like you and need a purpose. Getting in quite a lot of steps walking from where I live through four other towns / suburbs with lots of charity shops to buy new clothes!

Bruisername · 21/08/2025 14:16

Yes I probably need a goal for walking! I mean I take the dogs out but probably not long enough. Last year I did couch25k but once I’d completed it I lost all motivation to continue running and I got an achey hip… Peri is definitely messing with me!

I’ve never had that rush people talk about after exercising!!!

With snacks I just don’t have them in the house and I’m lucky to have an employer who doesn’t treat us!! I did try intermittent fasting but it didn’t work so well so I have 3 meals and after 8pm I don’t eat. Iron will when DH brings the crisps out!!

OP posts:
Silverblue1985 · 21/08/2025 14:28

Haha, same - no rush after exercising! I bought a VR headset and started some fitness apps on that but lost motivation, too. My latest idea was Pilates, but don’t enjoy it either. Bad enough that I have some physio excercises I need to force myself to do most days.

Well done for having done couch25k, at least you know you can do it if you want to! Depending on the breed of your dogs, could you do something like fun Agility with them? I’ve done it years ago with a Springer Spaniel and found I was running more than him 😂

Well done on sticking to not eating after 8pm, particularly if your DH tries to sabotage!
