Staying on track with a weight loss or weight management journey isn't always straightforward - and a little support can go a long way.

We're working with MedExpress to find out what helps you most. Whether it's a trusted app or programme, expert advice, encouragement from friends and family or motivation from the Mumsnet community - we'd love to know what helps you most.

Take part in our poll and share your experiences in the comments below!

Without trying to sound like a dick, why does MN want to know? Is it for research purposes?

SilenceInside · 15/07/2025 15:51

@CeriMumsnet yes, it would be useful to know the intended uses of this data and the comments.

SilenceInside · 15/07/2025 15:52

As it happens, what helps me most is medication, weight loss injections to be specific.

SoMentallyDrained · 15/07/2025 16:08

Not calling it a 'journey' is the first thing for me. Why is everything a bloody journey?

CeriMumsnet · 15/07/2025 18:20

Hi @HansHolbein and @SilenceInside thanks for your qs. This is a commercial thread as we're working with MedExpress, but the OP didn’t make that as clear as it should have done - it’s now been updated. We’re hoping to get a general sense of what support feels useful to people, and we may share the feedback with MedExpress as part of the broader campaign but there’s no specific research project behind it. Thanks for flagging.

I have tried apps to keep track, eg MFP and Nutricheck, but after a while I get bored of this.

I’ve discovered that by actually going ‘old school’ and writing everything down in a pad, I feel more accountable (to myself) and in control. The act of writing is such an honest thing to me…like writing in a diary/journal. I start a fresh page each day…it’s so simple!

I also follow the 18:6 way of eating, which has been revolutionary to me in terms of loosing weight post-menopause. I just couldn’t shift anything…despite being on Mounjaro since December last year (from Dec-May I had no success really, losing just 8lbs in 6 months 😳😢) but since starting 18:6 and my daily food diary at the end of May, I’ve lost 1st 12lb.

Thanks @CeriMumsnet

When you say working with Med Express, or any company, what does that mean? Does it mean the company pay Mumsnet to advertise, gather information, or some other purpose?

PrincessofWells · 20/07/2025 20:35

It's not a journey, it's self control, turning down everything outside of my normal clean diet.

AllBranEater · 22/07/2025 16:18

I check in on a forum every day, say if I've managed to stick to my calories/what I've eaten.

Jane958 · 24/07/2025 07:59

I am aware of what I eat, when and why. I am not an emotional eater. I like fresh food, freshly prepared as that is what I grew up with. I like to eat my meals at a properly laid dining table.
I do not "snack". I am aware that as I get older I do not need so much food fuel, so have adjusted my eating habits accordingly. Generally, I have a fairly large milky coffee with a teaspoon of Manuka honey in it first thing. My main meal is lunch consisting of a protein, 2 helpings of vegetables and a starch. That is it. If I feel the need for something else later in the day I will have an apple or banana or a carrot or stick of celery.
I am a very good cook, so I will usually have all the ingredients to make things like cake or biscuits, I just don't as I do not particularly like them.
I do drink at least 2l mineral water a day.
As we are all aware now, overweight is largely due to poverty and lack of education about food and nutrition. Governments and the food industry have no interest in changing this.

Whitehorses67 · 24/07/2025 08:03

Agree about the bloody “journey”.
Where does this crap come from??

WalkingaroundJardine · 25/07/2025 12:00

Bluetooth scales with a link to an app on my phone and weighing each day at the same time after breakfast.

And seeing a dietitian who analysed what I already ate and tweaked it into a healthier diet and one where I wouldn’t feel hungry.

MrsSunshine2b · 28/07/2025 17:11

I'm using MFP and my Garmin watch to track CICO. I also use ChatGPT to estimate calories when it's hard or impossible to work them out. I just take a photo of my meal and ask it to tell me how many calories and it's usually quite accurate.
