Lost three stone and very fed up!

I’ll keep it brief, I’ve lost 3 stone since Christmas, calorie deficit and lots of walking. However I’ve found it extremely difficult and not only that, I haven’t enjoyed it one bit (I know that sounds bad - exercising has felt like a huge chore) I’ve still got 2 stone to go so PLEASE can someone spur me on. Fed up of same food, just completely fed up of it all actually! 🤣

Sorry no advice just empathy and a big well done for your achievement so far.

BangersAndGnash · 24/06/2025 09:29

Wow!

You have done fantastically!

Right:

Would it help to think that you are nurturing your body and taking care of yourself, rather than the punitive grind of ‘losing weight’? And revel in self congratulation

Look around at some new summer foods / summer recipes to enjoy. Tell yourself that little things are there to be savoured. I am currently feeling very exotic by putting frozen raspberries and blueberries in my drink (aka water) instead of ice and admiring how pretty it looks.

And I bought some ice-lolly maker moulds on Lidl yesterday to experiment with making lollies from yogurt and froz raspberries.

Swap the walking for swimming or dancing or a little trampoline or gym classes? (I sprung up and dance to the adverts whenever I watch TV). A frisbee or kite flying in the park, a walk somewhere lovely at the weekend, it all counts. One of those mini rebounder trampolines? Hire or borrow a bike?

Buy something in a smaller size than what you wore last summer and compare photos.

You are significantly more than half way! You deserve your success!

@BangersAndGnashwhat a brilliant, thoughtful helpful post!

I don’t have nearly as many lovely useful ideas, but I can definitely offer encouragement. Congratulations and bloody well done on your weight loss. That’s amazing!! And the fact that it’s not been fun sucks, but makes it an even better achievement. For me, losing weight and staying healthy is the hardest thing I face in life. Other stuff that I feel should be harder comes nowhere close. So this is something to be really proud of!

Do you have anything to look back on to remind yourself why you wanted to do this? Maybe just take some time - set proper time- to celebrate and give yourself a pat on the back. Are there any non eating things that would help you feel indulged or break the routine?

good luck!!! I’ve never ever managed to lose three stone (but heed to), and I am proud of you and inspired!!

Thank you for your lovely comments. You’ve definitely given me a boost! I love the suggestion of the different way of thinking, I’m definitely going to try this, and I need to go through my wardrobe to try on some older clothes that didn’t fit.

Thank you all so much! Xx

I feel you @Daisypink1 . It sounds like we’re at fairly similar points of our journeys (I’m guessing I’ve lost 20kg since Jan - didn’t weigh myself until end of February so don’t know exactly). Another 7kg to go until normal BMI, another 15kg until what I think is my target weight. I just thought to myself the other day that it’s getting tedious now! (Though luckily I love walking!)

What I’ve tried to feel better again:

  • went to the loft and got all my smaller clothes down (yep, I have clothes from size 6 to size 20, lol). Tidied the wardrobe and put all 16/18/20 up in the loft while filling it with 10/12/14, the 8s are still in a bag as not sure I will (or even want to) fit into them again. Put on a couple of size 18/20 items to see the difference
  • I do things I enjoy which were more difficult before. I love hiking and went to the Lakes for a week, managed 100 miles in 6 days - I last went in September and really struggled with Lattrig! That definitely gave me a boost, knowing that I’m still carrying excess weight so it’ll be even easier when that’s gone
  • I bought a Meta Quest simply for fun fitness games. (Appreciate it’s not cheap, but I’ve been saving money buying less crap food and having fewer takeaways). It’s a fun way to add some movement
  • I’ve got a list of little things to reward myself with when I need it. New bracelets for my Galaxy watch, a new cushion, nice slippers, nice bedding… things like that. I started off having them for milestones but now dip into this when I need motivation to keep going
  • I’ve got weight loss jars where I move marbles (one for each 500g) from one “to lose” into one “lost”. It visualises how far I’ve come
  • There are some great cook books out there (or even online blogs) to mix up foods. Unfortunately I’m massively restricted in what I can eat due to my acid reflux (which hasn’t improved with the weight loss 😭) but maybe have a browse around. Slimming Foodie, Slimming Eats, Two chubby cubs, Punch of Nom (of course), bored of lunch series are just a few.

You’ve done amazingly well already - I also like to think how close I’m now to reaching “normal weight” (yeah, I know BMI isn’t the greatest measure) compared to what I’ve already lost.

Good luck with the remainder of your journey!

PrincessOfPreschool · 25/06/2025 22:21

Just came on to say my DD has very bad reflux but recently began drinking much more water and she said it's massively improved. Not sure if you've tried that.

3luckystars · 25/06/2025 22:24

Find some items that are three stone weight, some books cans etc and fill up some shopping bags until they are 3 stone and carry them around the house for a little while.

You are AMAZING you are doing so well.

Your body is trying to make you return to where you are comfortable, don’t sabotage yourself. You are doing GREAT!!!!

FurForksSake · 25/06/2025 22:26

Sounds like maybe you need to change up what you are eating and your exercise to keep you interested. Obviously this way of eating and exercising will need to be permanent really.

look on TikTok, YouTube or Facebook for high fibre and protein meals to try maybe?

one day at a time, you’ll get there! I’ve lost nearly five stone and at times it just feels joyless. That’s when I try and get creative. Buy a target / size smaller item, do some comparison photos or something else motivating.

is there a walking version of run zombie run which might make walking more interesting? Or set mini goals for yourself? Walking to Leicester, walking to Paris, walking to New York, 1000 miles? You can get those pictures you colour in one square at a time for each mile?

I read once - nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.. and that made me put my crisps back :)

Yes, drinking loads - thank you for the suggestion though @PrincessOfPreschool . I’ve got a hiatus hernia and immense stress isn’t helping I suspect. (DH with severe MH issues, and through this now physical issues; I’ve already done something about stress at work and moved into a role which I was lucky came up).

AmyDuPlantier · 25/06/2025 22:54

You know what’s worse than losing a lot of weight? Having to lose it ALL OVER AGAIN.

I lost five stone about three/four years ago, and recently just lost the plot and put almost a stone back on.

I hate it. I don’t look how I want to, I feel uncomfortable, my clothes are not sitting right and my face looks the worse for it.

So now I have to go and lose that stone all over again…stick with what works for you so that you don’t turn into me! I’m massively irritated with myself.

Oooh that's a good one

PrincessOfPreschool · 26/06/2025 08:04

Yesterday I was massively craving Cheese and Onion crisps at lunchtime as I saw someone else's. By the time I had eaten my own healthier food, I didn't think about them anymore. But I need a mantra for evenings when I'm tired and need energy so I crave sweet stuff.
