smileymylie25 · 14/06/2025 20:32

Hi I was just wondering if there are any home work out videos that have actually worked for people loosing weight and toning up quickly?

there are loads on YouTube just after your personal experience of which ones worked best for you.

i have two young babies at home so can’t go to a gym so will do daily workouts at home.

thank you ☺️

Do you want to lose weight or get stronger or both? If you want to lose weight then you need to change your diet. Home workout videos won't make any difference to what you weigh. (Nor would going to the gym either really). If you want to get stronger, get some weights and do some weights based workouts from YouTube a few times a week. If you want to do both, do both :)

I used the Fiit app. Liked it because it was convenient, you could just follow a plan depending on what you want (fat burning, strength building etc) and it also kept track of your 'streak' which I found very motivating. I went from doing no exercise (and eating and drinking a lot during lockdown and new motherhood) to exercising 3x a week for 25-40 mins. I didn't weigh myself. I didn't change my eating, except tried to eat less sugar and obviously during 3 evenings a week I was moving instead of sitting and snacking. One day after about 2 months both me and my husband realised my body had really changed - my stomach was much smaller. That was 4 years ago and I've kept the weight off and am very much "a person who exercises"! I have now ended my subscription to the app because I'm confident in leading my own workouts now!

I will shout caroline girvan from the rooftops.
Epic series in particular were the only workouts that I've done that have actually changed my body dramatically. Even though I'd been doing all the same movements with other workouts for years.

Definitely check out Caroline Girvan! Her workouts are really hard but they get results. She has free content on YouTube, and you don't need much equipment to get started. There are a variety of programmes, I started with 'Iron' which is probably the easiest programme, but there is plenty of content on there.

I am hooked and have paused my gym membership because I love Caroline's workouts. I can already see some definition after 3 months and that's purely based on her workouts as I haven't changed anything else

I have had Les Mills subscription for four years now and it’s my most utilised subscription - I do various workouts, including on active recovery days when I do yoga and stretching, use it for meditation, yoga nidra, I even followed their dietary program which was very good (and not at all about losing weight).

The workouts that made the most difference to how toned I look were Shapes and Strength Development. Both are quite challenging for a complete beginner.

I agree with PP though - exercise and losing weight are two different things, at least at the beginning. When I first started working out I actually put on weight despite a healthy, clean diet. Training made me hungry and it’s very easy to overshoot without calorie control. The fat only melted away when I restricted calories (very slightly).

From my experience the workouts that promise fast results are just full of marketing crap. The results are not fast, you need proper recovery days to grow muscle, so for me it took at least 3 months of proper commitment to start seeing spectacular results. I’ve mixed strength training with cardio, martial arts (it’s my hobby activity) and active recovery.

I hope I didn’t discourage you, I think getting and staying fit is the best investment and getting there is fun.
