I'm talking 2 hours a day, around 8 miles. Plus calorie tracking and healthy eating

Obviously not sustainable longer term, but doing 2 hours a day initially to kick start, for around 4 weeks

yeah but it depends on what your definition of healthy eating is. Get bath salts and a weekly massage. Walking that much will hurt

It will help but is mainly about a calorie deficit. I walk 18k steps roughly every day but if I don’t count calories and stay within a deficit I don’t lose

Not really no. It’s a great habit to start for your health and fitness but realistically any significant weight loss is going to come from changes to your diet.

It’s better than sitting on the sofa but ideally you need to be getting your heart rate up.

Vallmo47 · 01/06/2025 18:36

Yes. I lost a stone walking and changing my naughty habits. Walking is so beneficial to your health. All in all I lost four stone though the majority of that was lost during lane swimming. Swimming and walking is the only exercise I do and I love it. Good luck, you can do this!

It’ll tone you up and is great for your circulation. But as others have said, it’s mainly calorie control.

I walk to work weather permitting, it’s about a hour round trip. I feel that it does me good overall.

Yes a bit but diet is 80% if not more of weight loss. Exercise is good but the battle of the bulge is won in the kitchen!

You need to be in calorie deficit
walking - or indeed any kind of exercise- people usually overestimate the calories it burns and they also tend to slob a little more “because they have exercised “

it would make you fitter and healthier though so well worth doing - just be extra careful calorie counting if you want to lose weight at the same time

MoominMai · 01/06/2025 19:05

@myrightarmandleg I read once from a weight loss specialist and seen it echoed many times since, that it’s what happens in the kitchen rather than the gym that is the overriding factor as to whether you’ll lose weight. So whilst walking is the way to help towards a fitter body, a thinner one can really only be achieved through a calorie deficit and ideally a low carb diet below 100g a day. Also if you can avoid snacking inbetween meals then that will accelerate your loss also. Good luck! 🚶🏻‍♀️💨

For calorie deficit - does my intake of calories need to be less than the cals burnt via exercise ?

Hey OP …
like everyone has said , for losing weight it is the diet that has to be right ..
I was always slim but I lost weight 2 summers ago , ( looked dreadful ) ..
I’m back to myself again, but unfortunately lost muscle tone in my ass & going to gym now still trying to get it back ..
My advice would be eating healthy & the gym , you don’t want to lose weight & then be pissed off with saggy skin ..
If you book a class with a PT , you can discuss your goals with him or her & what you want to achieve..
Good luck with it ..
You can do it x

greencartbluecart · 01/06/2025 19:29

Ignore calories burned by exercise ( mostly )
so work out your tdee , take off up to 500 calories and work with that
