I have stuck to this for 2 weeks and have lost 4.5kg and I am well chuffed! Just had a massive (and diet) vegetarian curry with lentles rice and a slad and rather too much wine....but what the hell it is a celibration. Just another 10kg to go!

Well done to every one - i have had a half hearted attempt at GI with some disasterous consequences for DH!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Foods with a high proportion of unabsorbable carbohydrate that cause flatulence

Beans
Peas
Broccoli, cauliflower
Jerusalem artichokes and other root vegetables such as parsnips
'Slimming' foods, that contain sorbitol or fructose
Raisins, prunes
Apples
Fruit juices (because of the fructose they contain)

May DH has had chronic trapped wind all week - the culprit - my lovely homemade cakes, using fructose. He has been in a lot of discomfort, and stinks! Hope no one else has the same problem!

I made muffins with fructose for the first time yesterday, and I've just fed them to my work colleagues and my husband's employees. It could be an interesting day tomorrow . Mind you I had two muffins yesterday and I'm fine today so perhaps it doesn't affect everyone in the same way.

Can I join in this thread? I started the GI diet last week and lost 6 lbs!! I was hungry a lot of the time as I wasn't really eating enough, so am eating more this week.

I made the fruit loaf cake at the weekend and it is lovely. Quite heavy so you don't need to eat much. I did have mashed potato last night, though I made it with half sweet potato.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 27/01/2005 15:00

had the pasta with aubergine and tomato sauce last night - v tasty. Tonight its the chicken, like piffle.

Welcome Caribbean Queen .

I've noticed there's a few threads here and there for GI dieters. Shall we set up a "fresh" thread to bring us all together - "The GI Dieters" or something like that?

I don't mind re-posting all the links at the start of it (Glycemic Index, Sunday Times, Books etc).

I'm really keen to share recipes etc and say what was yum/not so yum/how to make it more yum etc!

Good idea Puff

HeyEnidYouveLostWeight · 27/01/2005 16:18

lamb pittas for me

Riebee · 27/01/2005 20:25

made a very nice chicken curry tonight, dry fried chicken in all the spices the same as usual but used low fat natural youghurt to make the sauce. We had half a wholemeal pitta instead of naan bread...yummy
Not sure I've lost any weight this week as its period week (or would be if not breast feeding) and I'm all a bit bloaty with water retention. I've had terrible cravings for chocolate aswell but have resisted and it seems to be passing now.
I wanted to be as good as possible this week as we are off to Florida on tuesday and I am sure there will be quite a few non low GI foods flying into my mouth
Puff..new thread is a good idea

happymerryberries · 27/01/2005 20:26

Had prawns, small amount of pasta and salad....and very nice it was!

Well done HMB! Ordered books today so will hopefully join in next week.

PTMD - really looking forward to new thread. No excuses for me in the coming weeks for inspiring ideas.

Would this be low GI as it is fantastic? (ingredients only for 2 people):
2 chicken breasts, spring greens (300g),onion, garlic, 2 tbsp olive oil, chicken stock, thyme, borlotti beans (400g).

Makes a broth and tastes delicious. Know the ingredients are ok but not sure of quantities.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 28/01/2005 10:04

That sounds delicious yoyo and most definitely GI friendly!

I'm not around for the rest of the day, but will sort the new thread out this evening.

piffle · 28/01/2005 17:43

about the wind issue, dh was a legend in his office and at home for offensive wind
even with beans in his salad everyday and fructose he has all but stopped
for that alone it is worth doing!!!!!!!!

happymerryberries · 28/01/2005 18:12

Funnily enough piffle, dh has always been a bit 'windy'. Since doing the GI diet it has almost totaly stopped. Strange that, I would have thought that with all those beans and lentils with would have been worse.
