Skinny-fat to skinny-fit. Mission to de-wobble by August!

Hello! šŸ‘‹

I’m not technically overweight, but I am definitely carrying excess fat. BMI is 23.6. Many moons ago I was a New Look size 8-10 but now M&S size 12 is uncomfortably snug. A spare tyre is appearing and when I sit, and when I jog, I can feel myself wobbling all over.

I did this to myself. Last year I went on two very calorie-restrictive diets. Both times I lost 1.5 stone (hooray) however both times I also put the weight back on within 3 months, as soon as I started eating normally. I’m sure I trashed my metabolism with this yo-yo-ing, and as I am pretty sedentary, I probably replaced any muscle I lost with more fat, so I’m worse off now than before.

I am 40 in January. I am determined to be in good shape and looking and feeing my best by the time I hit this milestone birthday.

I am shooting for August as my first milestone, as I have a friends holiday.
I don't have a target weight as such, my aim is to make decent progress towards toning my wobbly thighs, bat-like upper arms and flabby tummy so that I can feel happy wearing a pair of shorts and a strappy top. I have some size 12 shorts that I want to fit back into comfortably.

After a bit of research, I am trying something different to what I’ve done before. This time I will:

  • Eat mindfully and cut out snacks but without counting calories.
  • Eat only between 12pm and 8pm.
  • Eat non-processed foods (with the exception of one birthday party this weekend and another in early July).
  • Swim 2x a week.
  • Do 30 day shred 5x a week.
  • 3hour hillwalking 1x a week.

I hope it will work! I will adjust as I go if I don’t see progress.
I am going to update on this thread periodically (probably around weekly) to keep myself accountable, please feel free to follow along if you’re curious to know if it works, and join in and share your own journeys if you wish! :-)

I feel similar. Haven't gained loads but my face is looking moony and bits wobble that didn't used to wobble. I'm going to steal your plan if that's ok?! But will swap swimming for climbing. I'll be cutting out alcohol too since I've got into bad habits having a drink or two every night. That's bound to help!

My stats are:

Age 48
5ft 9
150 lb
Average size 12

This is what I do to try and keep myself in check:

  • Intermittent Fasting - I only eat between 12-8pm
  • Try and stick to 1500 calories (Sun-Thurs) slightly more at weekends
  • Currently low carbing which really helps but is the hardest thing!
  • Exercise - Gym x 5 per week (cardio, weight training, PT session)
  • Average of 10,000 steps over the week

Unfortunately I do like going out and wine and prosecco are my downfall 😬

Good luck!

Thanks for these tips!
I’ve found today that not counting calories makes it quite difficult, as ignorance makes it so easy just to say yes to that biscuit or whatever. Counting 1500 for a few days a week sounds like a good way of staying in control.

So the purpose of this thread was to keep myself accountable, so here I am even though it isn’t brilliant news.

As mentioned I had a family birthday at the weekend, where I ate a huge takeaway meal and a LOT of cake. So far this week I have been feeing rubbish as the weather is bad and I’ve had cramping due to the time of the month. So I haven’t done any exercise or dieting šŸ’€

Haven’t measured myself, but weight-wise I am up 1lb.

However! Onward and upward. I am going to start again today and make sure I get my exercise in every day until next Wednesday. I’m also going to go shopping and buy plenty of healthy food.
Take two! I can make this happen šŸ’Ŗ
