Anyone done the Galveston diet?

So the last few years I've taken to doing 3-6 months of 5:2 to just keep my weight down as middle-aged spread inevitably does its thing. But this last time it just seems to have stopped working - I lost small amount and then it just stopped. I don't know if it's because I'm on HRT this time or just getting closer to 50.

I've come across https://galvestondiet.com/ on social media a few times, Dr behind it seems to have decent credentials, but would be interested to know if anyone's given it a go and how they found it.

I also found it whilst searching for reasons why my usual diet and exercise stopped working. I bought the book a while ago and haven’t even read it yet! 🙊

You’re reminded me to get on and make a start.

Looking up some more online and it sounds like it's a trickier one to keep consistent with, which might mean it's not for me.

The 16:8 fast bit might be a stretch for me - I cannot comprehend how people do without breakfast, or don't eat before leaving the house. I think the only workable 'window' for me would be 11am-7pm, but I feel like I'd be going nuts with hunger either side, especially in the morning.

I’ve just ordered this, thank you for the recommendation. I’ve been trying but not really getting anywhere recently, and definitely suffer with inflammation so this sounds really good. 👍

Galveston, oh Galveston - I was so afraid of dying...

AchillesAndPatroclus · 16/05/2025 11:26

This is the weird thing, I can easily go without breakfast until 11-12, and I just lose interest in eating around 6pm, so much so that making the family’s dinner is a real chore. I often make it for them but not me.

And I’m still 2 stone into the overweight category and 3 stone over my ideal weight!

Fasting in the morning, 5:2 and Fast800 used to work for me, but nothing seems to make a difference these days. It’s really depressing.

I started reading last last, I think I am going to try it. I already pretty much 16:8 fast, and I have successfully cut out various inflammatory foods before , I think for me it’s just making the decision to actually go for it and get through the initial detox. I also am not sure about not calorie counting or weighing myself, I do like to keep just a bit of a check in both of those areas

Have you looked into HBD? That's the only one that's worked for me

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/05/2025 11:39

Human being diet? I have heard of it, what does it entail @inmyera

Echobelly · 16/05/2025 12:08

No that's new to me @inmyera

It's pretty strict in terms of what you can eat and when you can eat, there are four phases with the last phase being maintenance so you stay in it forever. I lost 8kg on it last year which is what I needed to lose, others lose much more. There are some good facebook groups, and the recipe book is great.

I have now read the Galveston book. To be honest, it’s nothing I didn’t already know- intermittent fasting (i’m in 2 minds snout this because I have read conflictive about peri menopause and fasting, I already naturally go from 7pm to 9am most days anyway, sometimes longer. And the reduction in inflammation and inflammatory foods also isn’t really anything new- I do know this, I guess it’s just doing it that’s the problem isn’t it?

I used to get migraines if I skipped breakfast when I was younger. However, I can skip it regularly now as long as I move breakfast gradually later over a week and don’t drink caffine before eating.
