Switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy

After 13 weeks on Mounjaro, with very successful weight loss but terrible side effects when I tried to increase the dose and then even when I just tried to go back to 2.5mg, I decided to give up and have stopped taking it. SheMed have offered for me to try Wegovy instead after a 4-week break. There are any number of threads and posts about moving in the other direction, but almost nothing about going FROM Mounjaro TO Wegovy. Does anyone have any experience of doing this?

Yes me! I'm also with Shemed - absolutely loved Mountjaro not crazy fast weight loss but definitely better than not having it. Had to move over as once I got on to the 5mg dose started getting bad reaction to it around the injection site which looked a little allergic so they felt not advisable to stay on it. Have started Wegovy after a month off and so far it's just a very expensive way of getting very constipated ( hopefully that's not TMI) but do appreciate the starter dose is a low dose so I'm looking forward to trying the next dose up . No skin reaction at this dose though. Interested to hear how you get on though.

Thanks for responding! Lets keep in touch and see how we go. I’m not allowed to start Wegovy until May 21st…

That itchy response is very very common and nothing to worry about. I had it for a couple of months and then it stopped again. If you google you'll find lots of people have it. I really wouldn't recommend wegovy over Mounjaro for that reason only - wegovy was less effective for me and made me so constipated I have a hemhorroid 18 months later that won't go away :(

Good to hear your experience, thanks for Sharing. I took advice from shemed after sending them photos because the skin response was bigger than my hand they said not advisable to continue....however I would rather not have changed . Feel it's not going to be as good

Helllo , Need your thoughts and experience please. I was looking for weight loss injections as I am finding it difficult to loose weight . I have high blood pressure . Is it like we go to the nhs gP and ask for wegovy straightaway or is there any criteria for the gp to prescribe this for us ? Is it an infection or medication ? And how often do we need to take it ? And can we stop it when we are below the bmi range . Sorry for lot of questions , really in doubt on whether this is worth a try ! I have tried exercise and walks but due to high bp get tired very fast and cannot be consistent due to tiredness and pain . :(

@Kriskadm only people who are very obese (BMI of 40 or higher) with at least 4 specific weight-related medical conditions are eligible to get Mounjaro prescribed via the NHS and their GP. People who are obese without those 4 medical conditions can ask their GP to be referred to the specialist weight management services, and after working through each "tier" for many months without losing much weight, you may eventually be offered Wegovy. But many NHS areas just offer bariatric surgery instead.

Mounjaro and Wegovy are prescription medication that you take by doing a self-injection. You inject it once a week, and each injection pen contains enough medication for 4 injections.

If your BMI is 30 or higher you can pay for a private prescription for either Mounjaro or Wegovy from a private pharmacy, either online or many high street pharmacies now offer weight loss services too. If you have a weight related health condition, like high blood pressure, then you are eligible if your BMI is 27 or higher.

You can continue taking weight loss injections until your BMI is into the healthy range, so under 25. Many pharmacies will let you continue taking the injections as long as your weight doesn't get too low.

Regarding your previous attempts at weight loss, most weight loss is achieved by reducing your calories, so going on a diet. Exercise is great for fitness and wellbeing, but doesn't help a lot with weight loss. Weight loss injections help you to stick to a lower calorie diet for long enough to lose a decent amount of weight.

Hi I don't know if you're still on mj, but it didn't start working for me until the last doses of my 10mg pen.
Glad I was patient!

@TimezoneEarth Funny you should say that. I just got up to 10mg and have had such nausea since. I defo think i see a difference in effect now

Hopsicle2 · 25/08/2025 03:09

I did switch to Wegovy and have now gone through 3 pens (0,25, 0.5, then 1.00) and found it a lot less effective. I think it did suppress my appetite somewhat, but it didn’t stop the food noise at all. In numbers: 3 months on the lowest dose of Mounjaro = weight loss of about 21kg. 3 months on rising doses of Wegovy = weight loss of about 7kg. I’m not taking anything at the moment because I had planned to return to Mounjaro in September- now waiting to see what happens with the Mounjaro pricing from SheMed.

hi all! Just about to switch from MJ to WG because of price hikes on SheMed. Any advice/ experience? Loved MJ. Would rather just come off of WG isn’t going to work. (Plus have my previous pens so tempted to try golden dose which I didn’t dare do before). Any info much appreciated. X
