Not losing on Mounjaro

Hi there
i have been taking Mounjaro for 3.5 months and am now on 10mg. I have only lost 6lbs in all this time. I eat clean and healthy, getting my steps in and doing all the right things. All the people I know are losing such a significant amount but I am not. Is anyone else very underwhelmed with this expensive drug? I feel I am the only person not losing weight on this! Perhaps it’s time to try a different injection?! TIA

@NiciBee you’d probably get more response posting in the Weight Loss Injections/Treatments section. You could report your own post and ask MN to move it?

Are you getting any of the intended effects of the medication and are you managing to stay in a calorie deficit?

MounjaroMounjaro · 30/04/2025 19:04

I'd contact the pharmacist who provided you with it - that doesn't sound right at all. Are you getting any side effects? Do you feel suppression?

qwertasdfg · 30/04/2025 19:04

It is not about eating clean and healthy but eating less. As an example for a healthy food, walnuts are healthy but if you eat a bag of them, you won't lose weight.
Have you reduced your calories intake?
You are still losing. 2 lbs a month is a result, not dramatic, but a result none the less.

Mounjaro is the most effective weight loss medication - switching to another won’t increase your weight loss.

what’s your TDEE and what’s your calorie intake?

BrunchBarBandit · 30/04/2025 19:14

My loss is slow like you OP, only two to 3 lb per month. I’m 2 stone down after 9 months and on 15mg. But the way I see it is:
I’m not stressing over cal counting and deficits
I’m losing the weight at about the rate it went on
I decided to listen to my appetite and it tells me it wants clean food
I get hungry but I am learning to listen to my body’s cues in a more healthy way
A slow loss is not so noticeable and I don’t worry about hair loss, muscle wastage or gallstone issues
I anticipate staying on it for another year with 2 more stone to lose and some tapering down to move to maintenance

My weight is so up and down on Mounjaro but I defo notice more of a loss when I’m exercising more than normal!

RunSlowTalkFast · 30/04/2025 19:43

Took me 6 months to lose a stone on Mounjaro, it just didn't have as big an effect on me as it seems to for most people so I still struggled to stick to my calories.

I lost 2 stone before starting Mounjaro so I knew what I was doing. Felt low level queasy/tired/headachy quite a bit so was also not doing as much exercise!

How much do you weigh now ? How tall are you ? What is your BMI ?
if you don’t have much to lose it’s obviously going to take much longer , like any ‘ diet ‘ the last few LBS are the hardest to shift

@SilenceInside yes I am in a calorie deficit and have no side effects whatsoever.

@MounjaroMounjaro when contacting provider, it’s generally a stock response, eat less, exercise more etc, which I totally am, they also say it can take some people up to 6 months to start losing weight! No side effects at all from any of the doses, though I do feel like snacking is off the menu, no interest. I just don’t understand it.

@qwertasdfg i am a clean healthy eating type, always have been, I consume around 1200 calories a day, some days less, I also understand the walnut thing, I do have the odd treat such as a couple glasses of wine on a Friday and Saturday evening, as far as I can see, this is my only sin! Not giving that up though 😫

It's not a miracle drug unfortunately, it supports weight loss but in itself it doesn't create weight loss. I would recommend you make sure you're eating your recommended calories, make sure you spend a few days being really specific when calculating calories. Consider water intake and exercise levels too.
MJ works because it increases your level of GLP1 in your system. Some people have more of this naturally than others and some people's bodies react more sensitively to it than others. It could be that your body isn't a high responder to it so it takes a higher dose to help.
6lbs is still weight loss, would you have been able to stick to a diet for this long without the GLP1? If yes then maybe it isn't the medication for you, if no then maybe it is working.
Lastly, I know it's hard but try not to compare yourself to others. There's so many people posting ridiculously unhealthy weight losses in short spaces of time and it's not because of the MJ, it's because they're using it to starve themselves.

qwertasdfg · 30/04/2025 22:02

I didn't mean to offend, but some people - not you - focus too much on the clean and less on the nutrient density, and then question the lack of losses. When queried they have apple with peanut butter, avocado in salads and so on. All gorgeous foods but very calorific.
If you are not losing on 1200, then you might need to lower a bit, or cut those 4 glasses of wine. They might be enough to nullified your efforts. Try having just 1 glass per day and not 2 if giving up is not an option.
Last but not least. There is no ideal diet for all. Some do really well on low carb, others do really well on low fat. Try changing diet type within those 1200 calories and see if you have better results.

You really do need to understand your TDEE , and be totallyy honest when it comes to exercise and calorie intake

My TDEE is just 1300 cals. Id die of starvation ( ok I wouldn't but life would be dull ) so I put the steps in. Only not all steps are equal and unless Im walking fast enough to get into aerobic burn - might as well sit home and read a book

Aerobic burn for me is 16 min mile.

I need 75 mins of vigorous activity a week - getting the heart rate to 75% of max to ensure I keep weight shifting at 1lb a week

I can sit here and say hand on heart, I put in 5 miles a day and keep the calories to 1300 a day - and I won't lose, will just maintain or lose a pound a month . So now I've added cycling - the weight is slipping off again and I can add the wee treats

TheLadyIsAVamp · 30/04/2025 23:06

How much do you have to lose? I think the huge losses are usually when people have a larger amount to lose and their TDEE is much larger than for someone smaller. You say you're a clean eating type and always have been, so you feel you are eating less than when you weren't using the injections?
