Hi all, I'm wondering if I'm the only one doing this? I have to keep my weight low due to some serious back issues; if I don't stay very light, I'll need a triple spinal fusion.
I'm already in the lower end of BMI, but have been advised by my consultant to keep to a weight that's about 6 lbs less than I am now. I was at around that weight pre-xmas, but for a variety of reasons managed to put on about 8 lbs (eating normally!) and now need to drop them. I've managed about 2 lbs, but that has taken a trial and error over the last 4 months of my usual weight loss techniques, that have not made a jot of difference. I'm now having to keep to about 1000 cals and if I increase even slightly, my weight increases straight away. It's a bit flipping depressing, but I really need to drop it. Going to the gym 4 times a week, walking daily and low cal, but still a serious slog, I suspect due to the normal BMI. Any hints/tips from fellow calorie restrictors? Please don't say that I'm not eating enough...I've tried that, as I generally don't go for v low cal solutions.

I also have a back injury but I'm currently over weight and definitely feel the pressure of my weight. I'm 88kg currently and trying to lose weight since having a baby, before baby i was 60kg. I physically can't have my spine fixed due to the risk of losing the ability to walk and I'm not willing to take that chance. Honestly instead of stressing for the rest of your life over a couple of kgs, I would go for the surgery if it can fix all your issues.

I can't comment on the spinal issues but in my experience of losing a few pounds when you're already a healthy weight, you have to be extremely focused, patient and VERY consistent because it's hard work unfortunately.

Thanks both for replying and yes, I suspect I'm just finding it really difficult because my weight is not high. Re: the surgery though, I'm virtually pain free when not too much over the weight level suggested, so definitely won't be plumping for major surgery unless I have to. Having heard of several people I know who have had it and their lasting after effects (walking with a stick, unable to exercise at all etc) I'm vastly unkeen to say the least.

I second this, it’s the next level up in terms of limiting calories so can be very effective, found it hard the first few days but got used to it.

Good luck with it! I found days 2 and 3 really tough but then my body just got used to it and I felt absolutely fine. I actually find it easier to do 800 than just a general calorie deficit. Might be the ketosis I dont know. But it's v effective!
