Disgusted with myself, kick up the arse needed

whymewhyme · 13/03/2025 11:11

I know I over eat, I know I'm the heaviest I've been in years. I can not afford to be over weight.

I'm 5'1 and weigh 10st 10lbs.... I've not stopped eating and it's only 11 am.... I've been up since 4am with the 15 minth old, I'm now at work till 5.

Today I've eaten
Big bowl of Frosties
X2 weetabix
Tuna sandwich ( won't have time later)
Wotsits
Little bag if animal biscuits
X3 digestives
3 cuppas with x2 sugar.

I've just sat here and thought what a greedy cow I am. I am alllllway starving!

I've just given myself a kick up thr arse, I weighted myself, did my bmi....28.3 so high end of over weight. I've downloaded my fitness pal and entered all that I've eaten. They target set is 1200....I'm- 245 and I've got to have my tea tonight.

I've no reason to post on here other than to out myself at greedy.

ahh Id imagine the problem isn’t sugar, exactly. The problem is something emotional and deep down you feel like you’re not worth looking after yourself, or you’re self-harming with food for whatever reason, or something along these lines.

healthy minds tend not to over eat lots of unhealthy foods.

also what’s your food education level? I feel like mine is crap. There’s so much info out there about eat this don’t eat that etc etc that it’s just confusing so I give up and just eat something easy.

you do also have kids and it’s hard to look after yourself when you’re busy and stressed etc.

Do you use feeling disgusted with yourself as an excuse to eat when you’re feeling low? You need to refuse to be disgusted with yourself - be sympathetic to yourself - otherwise you’ll keep punishing yourself with food.

If you're really craving pasta, then have some. If you get yourself a julienne peeler (oxo do a good one) you can do half and half spaghetti with julienned courgette - once the sauce is on you don't notice the courgettes but it's lower in calories and giving you fibre and other nutrients.

Courgette julienne is definitely preferable to the low carb pastas.

Just reminded me that there are red lentil and brown rice pastas too @whymewhyme

Avoid the konjac pasta IMO if you actually want something that tastes like, well food.

Do i need to avoid pasta and rice?

Hi OP you to switch to brown rice and pasta and reduce your portions of these by approx a third. I have been put on a low carb diet due to GD and it’s really interesting to see how switching to complex carbs and pairing these with protein can help keep blood sugar at an even keel and make me feel full for longer.

Please, please, please I BEG you don’t go by MyFitnessPal calories. It is an awful app. 1,200 calories are toddler calories and you are going to fuck up your metabolism and put yourself in an even worse position that you are now.

1/ track calories in Nutricheck instead

2/ calculate calories using the Scofield method. This gives you the most calories you can eat and still lose weight rather than eating as little as you can get away with without dropping dead. 1,200 IS NOT SUSTAINABLE.

3/ eat 1g of protein for every 1lb of your goal weight eg 140lbs means 140g of protein

4/ water water water

5/ weight yourself daily using Happy Scale. This averages out your weight loss over the week so that if you weigh in high one day because of your period/poor sleep/dehydration/hot weather/high salt intake at last meal etc it will flatten this out for you as it knows it’s an anomaly

6/ have a back up plan for when shit hits the fan. You are in the trenches of parenting right now. Deciding you are going to only eat 1,200 calories of home cooked nutritious meals is not sustainable so you need a plan b for those really rough days (& nights). That could be meal prepping so you’ve always got a freezer stash. Having sweet tooth snacks that aren’t going to throw you off for the whole day eg a rich tea is 33 calories. A Blue Ribban chocolate bar is something like 80. You need a much better breakfast than you’ve been eating. It’s all sugar no substance. “Empty calories” as they say. You need protein. Greek yogurt. Eggs. Oats.

Please give these things a go instead of diving straight into a miserable 1,200 calorie a day. You won’t last on that. Your body will fight tooth and nail nail against it. You’ll end up heavier. There is so much room for improvement without having to go extreme. Be gentle with yourself. Start with a good protein rich breakfast and go from there.

LucyMonth · 13/03/2025 20:19

& would I fuck be julliening a fucking courgette with a 14 month old that gets up at 1am and 4am etc. Set yourself up for success OP with realistic expectations. Have normal spaghetti. It’ll make you feel much more satisfied and stop you snacking later because you’ve just have a bloody courgette for dinner so you’re understandably starving.

A sensible portion of spaghetti is completely fine & bulk out your meal with more bolognaise or chicken with a light sauce (nothing too creamy).

I know someone who is using WLI she says she can't lose but I know she eats a lot of 'wrong foods' and doesn't exercise. Unfortunately it has made her really ill to the point where she couldn't go out for social occasions. The side affects were very bad pains and needing to go to the toilet a lot apparently. My friend waant even really overweight some people just want a quick fix.
Anyway came here to give hope I have been very big before a few times. Slimming world worked for me and calorie counting. Exercise also helps. i let myself go and realised I had to eat differently and walk about an hour a day. It worked but confess I can easily pig out and have to stop myself. I think having a target with a reward at the end will help. Perhaps a new item of clothing you would like to get into would be an incentive? Insta videos of before and afterwards can be motivational too.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 13/03/2025 20:26

I been addicted to crap for years and my bmi was just less than 30 at my heaviest.

It is so hard to stop eating shit, I used to start my day with biscuits and I’d finish it with Pringles and chocolate or sweets, eating varying amounts of shit in between!

I’ve been eating like this for years and I’m definitely an emotional eater! Anything stressful or sad that happens, I eat more😢

I’m having some success with intermittent fasting and I’ve managed to lose 10lb for the first time in probably 10 years! In those 10 years, I’ve gained about 3 stone!!

I’m not certain what has shifted my thinking but I have reduced my work stress and I think that’s a big factor for me.

If it’s children that are causing the stress or overeating, not much you can do about that unfortunately😞

SnakebitesandSambucas · 13/03/2025 20:32

Give yourself a break first of all. Don't go ultra obsessed shopping everything. You need some rest as well.

Tuna and sweetcorn make up a small bowl - add mayo or pre made dressing when needed.

Drink water! Soda stream for sparkling and some squash if you like

Use up your white rice and pasta first then switch to wholemeal.

Savoury flapjacks recipe too eat on the go.

Chop up carrot, cucumber, salad bits in a tupperware box in fridge.

Get a nice dip, m&s do some lovely ones.

Dollop in a plastic pot and head out.

Buy pre cooked chicken thighs, drumsticks etc.

Shred them, wrap them etc.

Make life easier for yourself not harder.

Make a soup or buy nice soups. Thermos and a cheese roll when your out.

Buy pre made jacket pots and cheese.

Packet dhal mix, cous cous,

Tinned chilli, Bolognese, veg curry

Packet rice.

Boil eggs!

Cheese 🧀 🧀 🧀 🧀

Up your protein.

(Personally I'm avoiding upf) But your in survival mode right now so don't worry)

Your doing great!

SnakebitesandSambucas · 13/03/2025 20:34

Ps I've been nearly 14stone and 5.1 before. Lost a lot through diet and exercise. Not WLJ as I can't take them. Pregnant now so thata out the window as I have severe HG. But I do understand that scale shame. But being realistic is better in the long run. ❤️

carrotycrumble · 13/03/2025 20:39

If I ate what you eat OP I'd be permanently starving too. You're not helping yourself by pumping your body full of sugar with every meal and snack.

Protein is what you need, and lots of it. Start loving your body and what it can do for you. Reward it by feeding it high quality food. A sugary diet is a cycle of hunger and misery.

BiffandChip2 · 13/03/2025 20:40

1200 is really difficult to do. My advice is actually track what you eat for a week and then reduce this by say 200 cals a day. So if you tracked and found you were eating 2500, drop to 2300, then repeat the following week. Etc etc. It's more sustainable than just going to 1200 and hating your life because you're hungry!

Also activity is key here - steps is the place to start

Gardenbird123 · 13/03/2025 23:19

Ah give yourself a break, you're doing a tough job!
Make some changes so that you feel happier and healthier, and to look after yourself but please don't beat yourself up. Small children are hard work, and you are working too - you're doing so well xx

whymewhyme · 14/03/2025 11:19

Morning everyone!

So far I've had 1 cup of tea with a tiny bit of honey and overnight oats, I weighted the oats with low fat greek yogurt, blueberry and mango. I had it at 7am, it's 11.14 now and I'm only just starting to feel hungry which is great, I feel alot better than yesterday.

I think im completely addicted to eating in general & also sugar.

I don't think I'm emotional eating, I feel happy enough, life is on the right track. I think im knackered and I'm earing for energy but I'm eating the wrong foods to get that energy.

Lunch im going to do one slice of brown bread with avocado and tomatos.

I'm just sitting with dp and little one having a few grapes while they have brush ( fry up) 😅

I'm making list of things I need to get, meal ideas ect and I've deleted my fitness pal

I had to do WW after my second was born to reset as I was surfing a sugar wave constantly. My god. The headache for two days when I stopped! Awful! I had proper withdrawal symptoms. But yep, up the protein and water intake and boot the sugar. That stuff is evil! 😂

TakingBackSunday · 14/03/2025 19:27

1200 is quite low and you might be feeling hungry and miserable.

you don’t need to avoid anything, have you worked out your TDEE?

flipflophjnnsnnd · 14/03/2025 19:43

Are you drinking enough water? If you are exhausted you maybe mistaking dehydration for hunger. Water with lemon tastes good. I add honey if I have one of DC's coughs.

You need some healthy quick options. Chopped apple/berries with greek yoghurt, add some flaxseeds if you can face it if not a bit of granola or some almonds. Etc. Get some dark chocolate for when you need a chocolate hit.

Do yourself a favour and ditch the ultra-processed wotsits/frosties/etc. They are absolute garbage and will be making you feel worse. Plus you don't want DC to get a taste for them.

Try and add fresh veg to your plate. Italian dish, add cut up peppers and tomatoes. Asian dish, add chopped cucumber. You will still fill up , but feel better and the change won't be radical. It doesn't take time, cut them up while the main dish cooks.

Don't beat yourself up. Running on no sleep is rough. As a final, can you get to bed earlier - sleep is your friend in this.
