bigkahunaburger · 04/03/2025 20:27

I have been doing this for 3 weeks and its remarkable. Ive dropped a dress size, lost about 10kg, and Im stuffed all the time. I did my research and I just cant actually believe its this easy? I was a total carb addict, and now I dont even miss it. I feel amazing too, and apart from some diahorrea its just been an absolute breeze. What gives? How come no-one is talking about this on here???

My brother got me into it. Hes been doing it a year and looks and feels amazing.

I've been considering this, or keto, recently. How do you think it would work for cooking as a family? do you think it would be easy to add items for children alongside what I would eat? I have a lot of weight to lose now after children. I'm currently BMI of 43, 111kg and should probably aim for 65 so 46kg to lose.

I've done it before. It was incredibly expensive all that steak!! And my breath smelt so bad.

Hibernatingtilspring · 04/03/2025 22:32

Are you genuinely surprised that people aren't talking about it on here?
It's an extremely restrictive diet which means it's unsustainable for most people. Its hard to eat that way and still fit into family life/social life. It's very expensive. It has a high risk of nutritional deficiencies because it's so restrictive, so potentially solving one issue but creating many others. It's unlikely to lead to long term weight management.

The only people I've known who have found a carnivore diet beneficial in the medium to long term are those with significant gut/IBS type issues who use it more like an exclusion diet to manage their symptoms. I know bodybuilders who have done it for a short time while prepping for a show, but even they get sick of it and they're pretty hardcore when it comes to extreme diets!

Fair enough if it's working for you but I think you'll be in the minority.

Someone I know did it and his cholesterol levels went so high he had to stop.. I couldn't do it because most meat turns my stomach 😅 I'd rather calorie count

bigkahunaburger · 04/03/2025 22:46

Well that's the thing. It's really not expensive. I'm spending less than I usually do. I live alone so it's just me, but I've naturally gone to eating one meal most days - sometimes two - but it naturally went that way, which is what is supposed to happen. I mostly eat eggs and mince which is cheao, chops, sausages, bacon, chicken pieces which are all quite cheap. I don't have lots of steaks - couple a week really. I'm getting through heaps of full fat cheese and butter. Don't know why people would think that more expensive
Than a usual diet. It's really not.

Not sure how it would go with family. Maybe you'd just do sides for them??

I do worry about the nutritional deficiencies but I've been strictly on the Mediterranean diet for ages and my bloods aren't great. So I'm gonna do this and get retested in 6 mths and keep an open mind.
I have a lot of health issues and I'm sick of feeling like I'm 80 (I'm 50) so I'm hoping that this is gonna help. According to all the hype it will and so far I feel pretty awesome so fingers crossed

And to the person who said it is really restrictive diet - I suppose it is but I gotta say so far I feel like I'm spoilt for choice! I've spent years avoiding things I'm now scoffing with wild abandon and I've not been this think in years!!! Flat stomach and back in a size 10! I'm stoked.
Anyway it's only week 3 so it could just be honeymoon so we will see

Pretty sure that article has been debunked.

This was an interesting recent study - although it was all self-reported, but still...Behavioral Characteristics and Self-Reported Health Status among 2029 Adults Consuming a “Carnivore Diet” - PMC

As I say, Im keeping an open mind. Seeing how I go with it, how I feel, and also what my bloods look like after 6 months.

The “carnivore diet,” based on animal foods and excluding most or all plant foods, has attracted recent popular attention. However, little is known about the health effects and tolerability of this diet, and concerns for nutrient deficiencies and ...

No, it hasn't. Even Saladino had to quit due to crazy high cholesterol.

People have always done crazy diets that had the potential to harm them, and you are free to do so. Don't ask for validation.
Your cancer risk is yours to consider, your stroke risk is yours to play with. After all, there is big cult out there that says cholesterol doesn't matter. You are free to join them.
At the age of 50, your risk for life altering diseases increases. You want to further increase that risk with a carnivore diet, go for it.
Gosh, I did the cigarette diet back in the 90s. Who am I to judge. Did I die of lung cancer after being on it for 2 months. No. Does it make it a healthy diet. No.

bigkahunaburger · 11/03/2025 13:36

Well yeh it may be crazy.

10 yrs ago I was vegan for 4 yrs and I got very very sick. So I do believe your body tells you what's right eventually. All the research said it would be the magic bullet but it wasn't for me.

Saladino is animal based not carnivore by the way. But his work is interesting.

Anyway I'll keep trying as long as I feel good and see what my bloods say in a few months

Hi @bigkahunaburger hows it going? Are you still strictly adhering to carnivore? I have been carnivore on and off around 3 years , I lost about 2 stone but I’ve put it back on due to relationship breakdown / comfort eating of carbs and naughty stuff etc big time - anyway I’ve gone back on carnivore 5 days ago and already starting to feel better , I want to get that 2 stone back off again ! It’s sticking to it that’s difficult for me , I’m easily tempted to stray ….
