So unhappy with my weight but still scoffing sweet treats on a regular basis and can’t find energy to exercise.

My work is desk based and when the kids were younger I used to walk them to and from school but now they’re older I don’t even do that. I do around 2000 steps a day now!

I’’m now mid-40s so I know it’s only going to get harder.

i know what i need to do but can’t seem to get there in my head to actually do it.

I have a ritual when starting a diet. I make meal plans, I rid the house of sweet treats, I come up with an exercise plan, buy the foods needed for my meal plan, I make a journal to keep me accountable. I weight weekly to track progress. I use My Fitness Pal to track calories. I find all these things get me into the zone. Good luck!

Obviously, I should just eat healthy and balanced all the time and I wouldn't need to do anything like this!

For full disclosure this last attempt (which I've been following for nearly a year now) has been done with weight loss injections.

For me at 16 stone it was the realisation at age 67 that my weight was affecting my health and that I have grandchildren I wanted to see grow up. Fast forward a few years (it is a slow process) and 2 Ibs from my goal weight of 10. St I am 5 ft 6 now my problem is how to keep it off. I did it by counting calories and swimming meal planning food swaps, banning junk food from house, giving up alcohol and writing down everything I eat. I also weigh myself every morning. For the record a slight gain of a couple of pounds every now and then is nothing to worry about, it soon comes of and s probably water. Good luck, it’s worth it. I can now fit into a size 12 jeans. I was size 22 and a terrible sight!. My blood pressure is normal, though still on medication and I think it was the best thing I could do for my health.

I think this is all great advice, all different approaches too. So do what is right for you.

My additional advice is that your head needs to be in the right place to start, so if that's not you yet, then wait and take as best care of yourself as you can in the interim. If you start and you're not ready, you're almost setting yourself up to fail.

It's a bit like sorting a cupboard or going to the tip. You'll have times when it needs to be done NOW and times when you just want Netflix and relax 😊

Look after yourself in other ways, not specifically weight and your time, when your ready will come. Self care 😌 ✨️

I was in a similar place recently, eating loads of processed junk. I have overhauled my diet and not found it too hard really. I actually didn't set out to lose weight, just feel more energised but I noticed clothes fitting better so I decided to go for it and lose a stone which I have almost done.

I just made gradual changes.

First I increased my protein and veg intake and drank min 2L water daily. I felt loads better for doing this.

After a week or so I stopped eating sweets but didn't restrict anything else. That was hard at first. Once I stopped craving them I gave up chocolate. Then cakes/biscuits followed by crisps and bread (because I was eating a lot of bread!). I did have the odd cake/biscuit/crisp packet but generally just told myself "I don't eat those foods now".

Then I realised that my clothes were fitting better so I started counting calories using the app Nutracheck. I have used it before and found it so hard to stick to a weightloss calorie intake. This time I found I could stick to it without too much difficulty. The trick (for me) is to keep up the protein, ditch the junk and make sure there is a calorie deficit over the week. That way, it doesn't matter too much if you go over a bit one day.

Good luck.

I remember the moment when I just wanted more for me, I was sick of being fat and all of the things that brought with it like the limited choice in clothes that I had.Once the weight started coming off it continued to motivate me. Other people had made nasty and cruel comments about my weight and that never made me do anything, it was only when the penny dropped for me that I did something and got my head in the game.
