Really struggling

StuH1 · 13/01/2025 09:08

Hi all, I'm really struggling with the after Christmas effect. Similar I suppose to my thread "getting the taste back worries"
Up to Christmas I had lost 9st 10 pounds so for 2 weeks I didn't deny myself anything, however I did eat and drink more than I thought I would.
Getting back to work last week helped a bit but I'm finding it more difficult to get back into the swing of it. Craving food which I wasn't doing before etc.
Just a moan and feeling sorry for myself really

Totally understand this. In the last 2 years i have gone from 14.7 st down to 10st by eating really well and exercising regularly. This year i gave myself December 'off' and ive eaten and drunk whatever i wanted (mainly chocolate and crisps if im honest!) So today i am back up to 11st, feeling really sluggish and crap about myself but i am back on the healthy eating and daily exercise and have given myself 6 weeks to get back down to 10st where, even though i was still about a stone overweight i felt really good and comfortably fitted in my size 12/14 clothes. I need to get that back. It is amazing how a month of 'letting myself go' really mounts up! I hope 2025 will be successful for both of us.

Thank you for the reply, it always helps knowing you're not the only one doesn't it.
I wonder if it's just enjoying too much of the crap food? We all know how addictive it is.
I have about another 4-5 stone to lose so it's all a bit daunting again at the moment

@StuH1 I cant believe how much ive sunk back into eating and craving the crap food. A sharing bag of crisps to myself, a full pack of biscuits with a cup of coffee, a large bar of chocolate whilst scrolling my phone. Just ridiculous but so,so hard habits to break! Plus im making the excuse that it is too cold to exercise even though i have a treadmill so dont even need to leave the house. I just know that i have to get back to it a day at a time until it becomes a habit again. I know exactly what to do, i just need to get off the sofa and do it!

StuH1 · 13/01/2025 13:48

@Tana433 it's just so easy though isn't it? I'll have one biscuit turns into wow where did they all go.
I did do spinning twice last week and booked for twice this too. I'm hoping by the weekend I'll be back in the mindset. I really want to get to 10st lost as its such a milestone but I put 5 pounds back on in 2 weeks over Christmas

I get you OP - you've done amazingly but it's so easy to slip back into habits isn't it? By Easter 24, over the course of the previous year, I'd lost 50kg. By yesterday I'd put 10kg back on. I'm finding it so hard to get back into the groove, but this can't happen yet again! I never got to my original goal either.

I've started back on watching everything as of yesterday. I'm miserable and feel like this is going to be a never ending cycle. It's like I just can't do moderation or maintenance. I mean putting on 10 kg in 7/8 months is just awful! And it was so hard to lose that 50kg!

Apart from anything I cannot yet again be buying more differently sized clothes. I'm seriously trying to focus.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 14/01/2025 06:48

I'm so glad you've all posted, this is me completely. I'd dropped down to what I thought would be a maintenance dose in November as I felt ready, ate really absent mindedly throughout December and into Jan and now I'm almost a stone up!

I'm training for a competition so I am hungrier but eating all the wrong things.

I'm increasing my dose again now.

Christmas is a really tough time for people who have done amazingly well throughout the year with weight loss, exercise and generally living a healthier lifestyle.
It’s a time when you allow yourself to indulge & enjoy the food & drinks like everyone else, after restricting yourself the rest of the year. You deserve to enjoy the festivities that makes Christmas special.
However, it hits you like a ton of bricks when afterwards you realise you have gained weight back & are finding it difficult to get back into the healthy groove.
Its scary because we fear the slippery slope of not being able to ‘get going again’
I recently lost 4st after years of yo-yo dieting. I identify with what you’re all saying post Christmas.
For that reason I don’t give myself time off because I don’t know whether I’ll be able to get back on track afterwards😝
So, I really admire that you have the strength of character to trust yourself with some well deserved time off to enjoy Christmas.
I think you’ll be fine, you’ve reached out on this platform & have replies from like minded people which I’m sure will help you get back on track. Go for it 😊

Thanks everyone, I think I'm just a bit annoyed with myself too.
I had got to the point I could look at a pack of biscuits without the craving whereas now I just want to grab and eat the whole pack.

Well I weighed myself last night before spinning and the weight I put back on over Christmas has all but gone so that's made me feel more enthused
Could still eat 2 packs of biscuits though

Well done @StuH1 that must give you a real boost t spur you on. I havent weighed myself yet because it is only 5 days since i 'got back on it' but ive stuck to my healthy eating and doing lots of treadmill walking and, fingers crossed, ive not found it too difficult so that gives me the confidence that i can do this again. I hear you about the biscuits though, my favourite ones were on offer today and usually i would stock up but i walked straight past them and into the salad aisle! Who even am i??!!

Thank you, it has really helped yes. Keep going yourself and let me know how you get on please.
Out of curiosity what are your favourite biscuits?

WOW!!! 9st 10lb??!!! That's amazing!!

Try not to beat yourself up over the pounds gained recently. You know how to reverse the weight gain, you just need to put the brakes on the Christmas stuffing habits 😊

I lost 5st a few years ago with help from a NHS weight loss support group. I remember the woman leading it saying about Christmas - Christmas is ONE DAY and you can eat what you want, Christmas is NOT two weeks!

You've got this. And congratulations!

OldTinHat · 17/01/2025 08:13

Oops, sorry, just read that you've lost the Christmas weight. Woohoooooo!!

You're doing so well!!

Thank you, I still have about 4 stone to lose so you can imagine what size I was and how much I used to overeat to get to that weight.
Christmas was definitely 2 weeks this year for me though, I suppose old habits die hard

@StuH1 Fox's jam and cream are my kryptonite!! There are 10 in a packet and i can easily hoover down all of them within half an hour whilst watching Eastenders! Very, very partial to Tunnock teacakes (the marshmallow filled ones) but they are the work of the devil so i dont touch them now!

Good choices, I don't think I've ever met a biscuit I didn't like though
