I'm at a loss what to do, I'm 45, perimenopausal, always been overweight, but am now at my heaviest, and I don't know where to start. I know I need to eat less and better, but I just don't seem to be able to stick at it. I've tried slimming world, weight watchers, calorie counting, intermittent fasting, Davina Taylor's willpowders, slimpod, and a few more, but with not much success. I'm considering starting sw again, because it would give me some accountability, but I didn't lose much on it the last few times, I like the idea of fasting, and have had some sucess, but I'm always hungry so don't stick at it. I love sweet things and bread. I'm in a real rut, and know it's making me feel down, any advice greatly appreciated.

I lost 45lbs aged 45…little changes became enormous lifestyle changes, completely unexpectedly. I started with a “no snacking” rule, and the day I started that I also did my first ever yoga, it was a Yoga with Adriene video, Yoga for Comfort and Nourishment, and I fell in love. Ever since, I’ve continued with the no snacking, and done daily yoga - anything from 10 min to 3 hours but generally around an hour. I did absolutely no voluntary exercise before!!
Nowadays, I also walk daily and cycle and swim weekly, I also eat as little processed food as possible and have 1-2 meals a day, but all that slowly developed over months.

You can do this, but I really would recommend steady and sustainable ways.

Mounjaro, if you can afford it and your BMI is high enough.

Thank you both for your replies, @Poisonwood, I will definitely try yoga, I'm a bit of a stress head, yoga will help that too. @Snozzlemaid, I'd like to avoid the medicine route for as long as possible if I can.

I began my weight loss journey at 45 OP; it's absolutely doable. IF is easier if you cut out sugar before starting a fasting regimen, and increasing your protein intake while lowering carb intake (somewhat - I'm not an advocate for removing it entirely from your diet) helps with satiety. Yoga, as a PP has suggested, is also great.

I've also made lots of little changes and they do add up - I have cut down on carbs, no sugar in coffee, eat off smaller plates / bowls, try to move more - even if it's a couple of minutes of squats and pushing off the bench waiting for the kettle to boil and every now and then I do stricter eating for a few weeks before going back to maintaining / much slower weight loss.

I'm older than you and it is tougher but all the little changes do add up

I haven't stuck to a diet since I was shredding for the wedding many years ago. Every time I've tried low carb, no carb, IF, I fall off the wagon. However I've had in my head for ages that I want to get healthy before I hit 40, I feel like this is my last chance or I'll properly enter middle age as a fatty and my health will suffer. I started by reading The Blood Sugar Diet book which was eye opening, and am now 12 days into the Fast 800. It's been hard but the results on the scales were evident almost from day one which has kept me motivated. The idea is it's easier to do a short term very low calorie diet to lose weight without losing motivation, then move to a long term way of eating which is low carb, low sugar, Mediterranean style. I'd recommend something like this which is a fixed term sharp shock (I'm going for 8-13 weeks) followed by a sensible long term shift.

I've used fast 800 for years, if you do it properly it's excellent. Some people seem to think it means just eating 800caks a day everyday which as you know isn't the case. I combine it with intermittent fasting, so I tend the fast from about 8pm to three pm. And I have more Keto days as well. Now I am 55 that has become harder to stick to so it's now supported with MJ. I gave lost nearly 5 stone over two years, going gently to avoid saggy skin
