Hi. Ok, looking to stop eating like a horse & to get fitter & drop a couple of stones. Menopause (& wine!) belly arrived, uninvited!
Can I use protein powder in my daily routine to loose weight? Eat in yoghurt? If so, what brands are best?
I honestly have no idea but fitness folk on Insta always seem to be making shakes etc and chucking in protein powders. I used to have an idea of macros etc but then "can't be arsed-itis" returned. Time to get a grip!

I use vegan protein powder - usually vanilla - 1 scoop into plain skyr, topped with fruit like frozen berries. Or into a smoothie. Usually for breakfast and for boosting protein intake. I get whichever brand is on special offer. I like the texture it turns yoghurt into.

It would need to be within your daily calorie allowance. I find nutracheck brilliant for this. Adding protein to something like a shake won't help you loose weight but can help stay fuller on a calorie deficit.

It won’t help you lose weight it’s just to keep you full up. I am intolerant to whey protein so only use vegan

Outside of those doing weight training and some people who exercise a lot, most people can just up their natural sources of protein e.g. fish, meat, eggs, soy etc.

I used to think that but when I started tracking my protein strictly, it was actually quite hard some days. So just a scoop or so makes a good difference to me, especially as I try to have a good amount of protein in the morning.

Interesting, thanks. I'm a bit anti-protein powder as I bought a massive tub, had one scoop which gave me terrible gastric effects and then binned the lot!

The rise in men farting and burping loudly in public has been concurrent with the rise in protein powder use, which I don't think is a coincidence 😅

This is what happened to me. Vegan PP is fine though

Thanks, I may give it a try. I guess this doesn't affect everyone or they'd never sell the stuff.

You don't need protein powder to lose weight. Protein powder is a poor substitute for real protein in your food and adding it is just adding calories. If you are a weight trainer and are trying to build muscle then adding protein powder might be helpful but if your goal is weight loss it won't help and might hinder.

Totally agree with this. Excess protein is just stored as fat or else pee'd out. Too much protein can damage your kidneys.
You would be better off starting by looking at your overall diet and reducing your total calorie intake.
