Sustainable and not overly ambitious weight loss 2025: 1 stone by June - anyone care to join?

OMGitsnotgood · 02/01/2025 17:10

Happy New Year!
I started this thread back in June in an attempt to lose a stone by the end of September. I wanted to do this through making better food choices and exercising more, rather than following a rigid diet. (Read the old OP for more details). Posting made me feel more accountable and made me rethink my eating after a calorific day (or week! )
I didn’t lose a stone but did continue to lose weight slowly, gaining some weeks but overall a reasonable loss.

Time to refocus after the excesses of December, and it would be great to have some company.

Welcome back to those who kept me motivated on the old thread and welcome to anyone new - you don’t need to ask to join, just introduce yourself and tell us what you are trying to achieve, and hopefully the encouragement and support we can give each other will help us all.

This is my info, feel free to post whatever helps you to keep track and use this thread as you see fit.

Height: 5’4
Heaviest ever: c 13st 4
Weight June 24:: 12st 8
Lightest since June 24: 11 st 11
Current weight: 12 stone 1/2lb - which is hardly surprising, i didn’t watch what I ate or drank for most of December. I think some of that will come off easily when I refocus. Going to have a few days away visiting various friends so expect that won’t help but I don’t want to be able to enjoy those times, and be extra careful at home .

My short term goal is to get back under 12 stone by the end of January..

My dream would be a stone by June. I'm not optimistic but a reasonable goal to aim for.

I like seeing the meal choices. It helps with my difficulty thinking ahead about food. I operate generally on a no thoughts about food and then bingo: I'm starving! And need food, immediately if not sooner. Anything.

OMGitsnotgood · 07/01/2025 21:38

@Jabtastic I've not heard of that, sounds interesting.

@twoforj0y I am exactly the same 🙈 I try to get round this this by prepping something in advance, e.g. making a big salad or vat of soup at the start of the week when I have time, to use for lunches all week when I know I won't have time (I work the second half of the week) - so that when the hunger hits there is something sensible to eat! It doesn't always work... But meal planning is definitely key for me.

I'd like to join you too please. Last year was really up and down for me. I really struggle with weight loss, I think a combination of HRT and inefficient thyroid function that is not inefficient enough to be treated. I exercise a lot but it makes no difference to weight loss. And I eat too much. In March last year I started a very strict whole foods diet and managed to get down as low as
10 st 9 , lost around a stone. Went on holiday in the summer and since then I've almost been in complete self sabotage mode. I am now starting 2025 weighing almost exactly the same as I started 2024.

Starting weight 163.5lbs
I'm 5'7
I'd love to lose 21lbs by the summer holidays but given my track record, A stone would also be ok.
I exercise a fair bit, walk the dog every day and do outdoor bootcamp style workouts and running. However I work from home in a sedentary role so these sort of cancel each other out.
Over Christmas I have been very unwell with an autoimmune condition which has effectively paralysed my face, I am now nearly 3 weeks of bed rest and it is slowly improving but I think it will be a few weeks yet and I'm Currently signed off work. When I am well I will need to rethink my exercise regime and my whole lifestyle really. I need to end the yoyo dieting and find something sustainable that actually works.

Jabtastic · 08/01/2025 12:03

So far today my breakfast was porridge with nuts and berries and lunch will be carrot and coriander soup with a few walnut pieces sprinkled on. Dinner will likely be curry and rice but I will aim to eat some vegetables or salad at the start of the meal.

Loseit2025 · 08/01/2025 12:10

Hi 👋 this thread seems ideal for my weight loss goals. Last year I lost about a stone overall, most of it was achieved over 6 months so I feel this pace is realistic for me.

I lost 3 stone in my early 20s and kept it off for over a decade with very little effort. I think this was partly because I was living in London and walking lots of my commute.

Slowly put on weight from 2016 onwards and piled on 2 stone during the pandemic. I started my weight loss journey at the end of 2021, it’s been very off and on, with lots of plateaus - but overall I’ve made progress.
I went from eating takeaways almost every day during the pandemic to now having them only about once every 3 months and that’s usually when I’m travelling for work and staying in a hotel.

To judge my progress I try and keep an eye mainly on body weight, waist size and body fat percentages although it’s trickier to get accurate figures for the latter.

I’m currently eating 2/3 meals a day and walking 5K steps a day. I tend to eat things like salmon and veg, chicken and rice and homemade Turkey or beef burgers. All of the above with lots of vegetables and at least one piece of fruit a day.

Today I plan to make chocolate oats for my first meal then have two beef burgers in brioche buns for meal 2.

Pear, raisins and oat milk coffees for snacks. I eat 12noon-ish to 8pm.

Height : 5ft 2

SW: 12 stone 10
CW: 10st stone 5
GW : 9 -9.5 stone

(Waist size)
SWaist :38 inches
CW: 30 inches
GW : 28 inches

OMGitsnotgood · 08/01/2025 15:30

We're away for a week or so on a road trip visiting various friends / family, which will not be great for my waistline, but also I won't have much time to post.

There's enough of you to keep the thread going without me, will check in when I can

Welcome to our new starters.

Another positive day here

B - porridge with fruit and yogurt

L - 2 slices of toast with peanut butter

D - stir fried chicken with vegetables

Any suggestions to improve on this are welcome!

I did a yoga class, which didn’t burn many calories but it was too cold to walk today.

@OMGitsnotgood enjoy your break. Perhaps start afresh when you return and fully enjoy your trip?

Jabtastic · 08/01/2025 23:15

I had great ambitions but added a tonne of garlic bread at lunch and too large a portion of curry and rice. I'll try again tomorrow!

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 09/01/2025 00:04

That sounds like a nice day of food @Patagonia21 and there's always tomorrow @Jabtastic

Today was reasonable for me:
B. Yogurt, fruit, peanut butter (I've run out of granola & it's a good sub)
L. Spanish omelette & an apple
S. Hot choc from Paul (I love these)
D. Fajitas
S. Half a coke as we were out for the night & I thought better choice than a pint of lager.
Total calories 1646

Hi 👋

A stone sounds perfect, eminently sensible. I lost 3 stones last year and this year would like to lose the last bit (bmi is 26.6 at minute, still “overweight” though I’m in size 10 jeans) but also really concentrate on the maintaining-my-lifestyle-changes part!
Nowadays I have a daily yoga and meditation practice, I very rarely snack, generally have 1-2 meals a day and eat as little processed food as possible. Feel so, so much better - better than I have for years.
Yesterday I had curried parsnip soup with pumpkin seeds for lunch, and salmon and salad for dinner. Today I’ll have minestrone soup for lunch, and a chicken and vegetables traybake for dinner.
Must really drink more water!

@MadamTeapot That’s great weight loss progress. I am sure you’ll lose the final stone in no time.

Can I ask how tall you are?

Oops didn’t mean to quote your entire post!

MadamTeapot · 09/01/2025 09:07

@Loseit2025 of course, I’m 5ft 5. The reason I finally managed to focus on sustained weight loss was the GP was just about to insist I went on bp meds…now, I have brilliant blood pressure 💪. Nurse is happy with weight now, but I want wriggle room for when I go in to maintenance.

Loseit2025 · 09/01/2025 09:26

Thats amazing that losing weight had such a clear positive impact on your health - well done! @MadamTeapot

Hoolahoophop · 09/01/2025 10:10

May I join?

I often join these threads then fall off them. But want to commit this year as GP has mentioned my raised cholesterol and I don't want to be medicated.

I'm still using up left overs and suffering from return to work energy drain so will start proper Monday.

I am 5ft nothing.
Weigh 58.2kg
Would like to weigh 50kg will settle for 54kg
My calorie allowance is tiny as I am so very short. Which is a pain.

Today I have eaten
Shreddies with semi skimmed milk
2 mini cocktail sausage rolls
A handful of grapes.

Lunch will be soup and a whole meal pitta.
Dinner will be meatballs and far to much pasta in a tomato Sause.

Snacks will be a coupe of pieces of fruit and probably some sort of rice crispy snack bite left over from Christmas. Then when I am home from work no doubt a fridge raid for cheese or crackers, and a couple of chocolate covered marzipan bites while watching the TV.

In other words, too much!
I haven't run in about 6 months, so need to get back to that, but I do walk to work and back and school drop off which is about an hours speed walking over the day.

2025holidayplanner · 09/01/2025 12:40

Hello hope it’s ok to join! Happy new year all.

I was on a ‘10 weeks to lose 10lbs’ thread last year (May I think I joined it) and managed to lose a stone but have gained half a stone back since around August.

My current weight is 10 stone 12.8 and my initial goal is to get to 10 stone by the end of June.

I had been very successful on one meal a day last year but haven’t ever really managed to get back to that so will try and just be sensible basically!! If I do need to be stricter I’ll then go to OMAD.

Jabtastic · 09/01/2025 12:44

I'm currently making soup for lunch. Going to try not to eat too much bread with it. I wish I didn't love carbs so much.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 09/01/2025 20:13

That sounds like a lovely meal plan @MadamTeapot
Today I've done well for calories but badly for walking (loads of work on and barely left the house.)
B. Yogurt, fruit, peanut butter
L. (Was snacks really) 1 slice of back bacon, a piece of Xmas cake, banana
D. Tofu & mixed veg stir-fry with a cup of rice
Total calories: 1214

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 09/01/2025 20:15

I'm a carb lover too @Jabtastic , when I'm doing well I choose really extra nice carbs and don't eat too much of them - bread from the bakery, home made cake, nice dark chocolate etc.
No biscuit is safe from my over eating though, so I have to cut them out completely.

OMGitsnotgood · 10/01/2025 07:48

@Patagonia21 thank you, I certainly don't want to be one of those houseguests who nibbles on a lettuce leaf while everyone else has fish and chips!
Last night was lasagne, garlic bread and salad. I managed to keep to one slice of garlic bread which was tough because I love it and there was tons of it on offer! I also alternated wine with water so probably drank less than I might have done, and asked for a small helping of a gorgeous tiramisu and resisted seconds. So a high calorie day but I managed a little bit of restraint at least!
Friend offered us a full English this morning, I said I'd stick with cereal but now I can smell the bacon cooking for everyone else...

I’d like to join. I’d like to lose roughly a stone, or a bit less. I’m at the heaviest I’ve ever been, though I’m not technically overweight. I’m 58, have had breast cancer twice in the last three years and take hormone blockers. I work full time from home in a sedentary job. None of this helps! I’ve also got a broken arm. I have a weakness for chocolate. I’ve never had to think about my weight before, so a height and weight check at hospital recently shocked me. Cutting out chocolate will be my first thing to do.

Jabtastic · 10/01/2025 08:59

Good morning everyone. I'm going to try and have a Glucose Goddess style breakfast so an omelette mostly egg white but with one yolk. My plan is to really start monitoring my carbs. My scales just won't drop 3lbs to get me into the stone below so I want to make that my aim for January.

MadamTeapot · 10/01/2025 09:26

It’s cold here, makes comfort food very tempting. Yesterday I had a really nice jacket potato with chilli, and salad, followed by half a wee lemon tart so just two mouthfuls lol. Today it’ll be chicken casserole, I’ll give the dumplings to everyone else though. Lentil soup for lunch.

Jabtastic · 10/01/2025 10:15

I found this piece very interesting today, this gentleman says that although calories in, calories out has fallen from favour there is a lot of truth in it. I know my friend recently lost 2.5 stone by religiously logging everything she ate in My Fitness Pal. I think I need to do the same.

Just saying hello.
@Jabtastic recommended the thread.

I've lost 34kg over the last three years. I still have 20kg to go. I'm 180cm. I don't drink anymore.
I'm newly disabled (1 year) and had a very bad reaction to WLD. The jab inflamed my gallbladder and I'm now on a waiting list for removal.
I'm happy with 2kg a month. I've tried all the diet clubs and now use nutracheck.
I'm not eating much at the moment due to the gallbladder pain.
Can anyone let me have a good lentil soup recipe?
