The realisation that I still have so far to go

In 2024 (since Apri), I have gone from 16 st 5, to 13 st 5.
I'm proud of myself and feel loads better, but it has dawned on my today that I still have over 2 stone to go just to get me to a healthy BMI of 25. I feel a bit demoralised as well when I look at photos and see I'm still fat 😳

There is nothing stopping me from going. I am on this train now and I'll never go back, but still, it feels a big task.

I'm also cross I ever let myself get that big

Well done on your weight loss! It is a big task, but you're 60% of the way there. I found it helpful to visualise my losses as percentages; it made a very long journey seem more manageable.

Same, but it's OK. Started this time at 118 kg end March, down 27 kgs. According to my app I'm 57% of the way. I'm working my way down a ski slope! Another 20 kgs to go.

At my heaviest, I was about 140 kgs. It took 20 odd years of an abusive marriage to get there, so a couple of years to take it off is nothing in comparison. Find your positive. You'll get there.

You've done really well. Please be proud of yourself. The weight didn't appear overnight so it's going to take time for it to go, especially if you want this to be a long term thing.

I was 218lb in July and am now 190 (ish, not weighing over Christmas!!) The aim is to get to 165lb by July. I'm back on low carb from 2nd January and lots of walking, some strength training.

How have you done it?

WhatTheFudges · 26/12/2024 12:26

I get it but that’s how it happens with gaining weight too. People dont go from a slim size 8 to a chubby size 20 over night, it’s gradual and so is loosing it. Keep going and don’t give up, you will get there if you keep going.

Well done on losing so much weight. Think of it as this was your last Christmas over weight, keep breaking it down into 5 lb chunks.

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/12/2024 12:31

Good grief, you’ve come so far. Well done!

Here Op try this for seeing your progress. Input what you did weigh and then do the same for your now weight and what your goal is. It’s good for a visual representation to help spur you on and remind yourself of how far you have come. https://modelmydiet.com

You’ve done really well and in a relatively short space of time as well. Took me over 2 years to lose just over 2.5 stone.

Just keep going and remember there are some positive benefits of losing weight at a steady pace, so you don’t need to lose the next 2 stone super quick. I think you’re less likely to have loose skin when you don’t lose it super fast.

I spent a long time kicking myself for the weight I’d put on but I now look back with some compassion. Personally I was binge eating and struggling to leave the house during the pandemic but I had my reasons for that. Also it’s literally useless to beat myself up over it so I’ve kind of moved on from that.

After all that time I’m still 10 pounds overweight but then I tell myself I didn’t get to be 3/4 stone overweight instantly so I shouldn’t expect to lose it instantly. For me it was a build of about 6 years gradually putting on weight.
