I have lost over 10 stone so therefore have loose skin. I am about 10 pounds away from being in a healthy weight category. I am finding it really difficult to know if I should stick where I am or keep going because I can see my ribs and rib cage etc but this skin / fat attached to the skin in certain areas obviously makes me look bigger in certain places.

I am so disheartened. Anyone has similar?

Congratulations on your phenomenal weight loss! I've not lost quite as much, but have lost 7stone; I could stand to lose another 20lb but I can also see my ribcage as well as my loose skin. So I'm taking a step back and focusing on maintaining, rather than obsessing over an arbitrary goal. Bear in mind that losing an additional 10lb will not impact your loose skin. What you may find - as I am finding - is that body dysmorphia is a factor. My brain hasn't caught up to my weight loss and I still feel huge, even though I'm now wearing size 10 clothes.

Well done to you too! I still feel big as well.

I think this is the real crux of the issue - still feeling enormous, rather than seeing our bodies as they really are post-weightloss. I learned recently about the 'allocentric lock'; it's a mental misrepresentation wherein we don't have an accurate schematic map of our own physical appearance. It applies both to not seeing when we've gained weight (certainly true in my case), nor seeing when we've lost. I'm considering tackling this through learning an exercise such as ballet or martial arts to feel more embodied and, quite literally, comfortable in my own skin; rather than more mindless cardio.

Hi. I too have loose skin from being much too heavy. My Dr has told me that the the standard "healthy weight" is not accurate for those of.us who have loose skin which may weigh as much as 10lb. So, after allowing for that, it is quite likely that you have already achieved your healthy weight. ⭐️

@Gummibärchen I love this concept - embodiment and becoming comfortable in our own skins! Yes, this is my aim for 2025.

Has anyone had any success with tackling loose skin? What do you do that might help? I've heard that daily skin brushing and building muscle may help some of it, with some of it reducing in a 6-12 month window as your body catches up with weight loss but don't really know... what do others think?

Gummibärchen · 20/12/2024 11:26

I haven't found anything as yet to help with loose skin, @loveyouradvice but am very confident Novo Nordisk et al are working on it as we speak, lol! Now there's a growth market, pun unintended. I'd heard that intermittent fasting was helpful but I saw no difference. Skin brushing I just find irritating as I'm also someone who detests massages. I'll live with mine and work on more stretching, sculpting exercises, like the ballet I mentioned.

Interesting.... IF has changed my life and way of eating so glad that may help... agree re ballet! Gorgeous!
