An accountability thread for myself (and absolutely anybody else interested) to drop a dress size or two within the coming months to get back in my lovely dresses. Had a stressful year of all sorts going on hence some weight gain but I'm now ready to shift it.

Starting Janruary 1st instead of now just means there will be even more to lose.. so starting today I'm counting calories and looking at some exercises on YouTube. I've dug out my workout clothes and ordered some new sports bras.

Perhaps with Christmas, New years etc I won't actually lose a pound but that's okay - maintaining I'm more than happy with as long as I don't put anymore on.

I don't like to use scales to weigh myself but I will be judging by how clothes are fitting. I have a midi skirt I'd love to wear for my friends birthday at the end of January but its far too tight so this will be my first goal.

Anyone care to join?

need to lose stone but any dent in this will be good. Have booked a cut and colour for first week in jan and signed up to Pilates once a week.

@SaggyOldClothDog I too love tasty food but i definitely eat from stress and emotional reasons . Agree abit about the books a lot of repetition but im enjoying at the moment . I did think he must me a multi millionaire out of it all too 😊

Trialnerror · 30/12/2024 21:30

@2025willbemyyear you are making some good positive starts

Oldgalgames · 30/12/2024 22:14

@Showmethefood@Showmethefood@Showmethefood welcome! Apologise for the multiple tags, my phone has a mind of its own and doesn't allow me to delete! I am going to avoid tagging from now on!

Been for a lovely long walk in the lake district today, iv been back to calorie counting since Friday. Gym in the morning and planning a fillet steak our for NYE meal

Showmethefood · 30/12/2024 23:19

@Oldgalgames lots of tags make an enthusiastic welcome 🤗. How has everyone been today? I have stuck to the plan but keep reminding myself that healthy weight loss takes time and is not instant. Stepping on the scale too much is not good and I need to make sure I don’t become obsessed 🙈

AdversePossession · 30/12/2024 23:23

I am a few pounds off of a healthy weight for the first time in years. I need to maintain this as in the past I have lost and then gained again.

I want to make sure I swim and walk and have a good routine for stretches and muscles - really notice that after a few days more stationary than normal.

Oldgalgames · 31/12/2024 09:31

I really wouldn't advise anyone weighing themselves anytime soon, the water and extra salt over the festive period will inaccuratly inflate the reading, if you can give it another week!

under60kgbyJuly · 31/12/2024 10:19

I'm in - digging out a username from 7 or 8 years ago. I didn't make it to under 60kg by that July, but have spent a couple of years under since then (weight loss kicked off by some sad circumstances, but being at my preferred weight was definitely a good side-effect, and my back was so much more reliable). Now I've crept up again, although not as far as when I first picked the username. Starting weight 63.4kg, goal 60kg. "By July" may prove over-optimistic and that's fine (fast weight loss can be bad for me, ymmv), but definitely during 2025. I weigh daily and focus on how the running average changes, so that I don't focus too much on any one day. Not counting calories as I easily get obsessive, but trying to eat food, not too much, mostly plants, and to relish being a bit hungry. Maintaining cardiovascular fitness would be fine but I'd like to increase strength, so looking to do more weights more regularly.

FiveShelties · 31/12/2024 20:54

Right, it is New Year's Day here and like every 1st January before, I am aiming to lose weight this year. But the bigger aim is to stop putting it back on!

Start Weight 10st 4.2 Pounds
Goal Weight 9st 13 Pounds so 5.2 pounds to go.

Drink more water, less wine and 11,000 steps per day.
Happy New Year everyone.

Midlifeshenanigans · 01/01/2025 20:06

Can I join please. I have 2 stone+ to lose but I want to concentrate on eating better and exercising more rather than quick weight loss. I did a yoga session this morning and aim to walk more but didn’t manage to get out today as the weather was so awful. I’m back at work tomorrow but will try and get out at lunchtime.

Trialnerror · 02/01/2025 21:29

Hi all
Went back to work today . Had an okish day food wise . Still picking at a few leftover chocs and biscuits but in general eating fresh and healthy . My injury is really getting me down but managing light exercise and swimming which will help .

Welcome to the new joins .

I weighed yesterday at 14st 8lb. Mortifying . My jan aim is to lose 7lb so hope I achieve it .

PurpleWillow · 02/01/2025 22:46

Normal life has started again for me as well. Today I made chiapudding and boiled eggs for snacks, and added carrot and cucumber with hummus to my lunch. Dinner was a diet bar, not so much for the diet part but because I had no time to eat. Which did lead to some chocolate as well, which was not really the plan. But all in all, not too bad.

Trialnerror · 04/01/2025 07:55

We got a huge hamper yesterday from a work client . Yep I delved in to a few chocolates but other than that meals are not too bad .

Still think it's probably best I'm easing in to it . Starting back to some strength and indoor training as my ankle not ready for roads or tracks . Swimming I will start too .

@PurpleWillow your food planning sounds good

I have a feeling I maybe older than most of you here ( I'm 56 ). Please get ahead of this weight and fitness if you can . I lost so much weight on and off over the years and it's back again . And it's causing me difficulties now. But I'm determined to shift it one more time and keep of off for good . It might take me a year to get it but I'm aiming for 2 stone by next Christmas.

Oldgalgames · 04/01/2025 22:21

How is everyone doing?

I'm dreading being back to work on Monday trying to fit the gym, 10k steps aswell as mum duties is a struggle!

LollipopViolet · 05/01/2025 19:11

Doing OK here - I'm 3.5lbs down on my starting weight from 3 weeks ago which is lovely. It was SO close to being 4lbs down and into a new number but not this week - the scales did that annoying yo-yoing and settled on the higher number.

Just cutting out the junk has been my strategy, even managed to do well at a (regular, weekly) lunch out yesterday, didn't drink alcohol and had a jacket potato and salad instead of my usual carb-heavy choices.

I'm away for 2 nights from tomorrow for a hobby related camp - lots of exercise so hopefully I can be good with my food and have an even better loss next week.

Trialnerror · 07/01/2025 16:22

Well done @LollipopViolet that's a great loss .

I'm having a reasonable week so far . Managing to exercise and hoping I can keep it up .

Oldgalgames · 07/01/2025 19:38

That's amazing well done!!

I am weighing but no movement in the scales I am weight lifting 3-4 per week so I'm not taking to much notice of the scales

SaggyOldClothDog · 12/01/2025 11:18

It's not going well 😔. While i'm marginally down on last week, that's only due to where i am in my cycle and my overall average over the last month is pretty static.

Last week's snow related disruption didn't help, as it curtailed my steps and the cold weather triggered cravings for mid-afternoon toast.

Still, I've definitely identified my danger time (mid-afternoon until teatime) so that's something I can focus on.

I've switched my exercise for the month to Caroline Girvan's iron programme - i usually follow Sydney Cummings on youtube but thought i'd see how I get on (I've found the look of CG's workouts intimidating - and i'm still too chicken to attempt any of her cardio 😂). My arms feel suitably worked today (they're floppy noodles).

We're out for lunch later so i'm hoping to go down the salad/veg route with some protein. But realistically there will be a pudding involved...
