How would you invest £100 in your weight loss

I'm typical late 40s, piled on the lbs since lockdown and really fed up.

A kind relative recently gave me £100 as a birthday treat and I want to invest it in myself. I'm thinking signing up to weight watchers again (it's been years, does it still work for people?). Or something else? Exercise classes are good but its the food side I need to sort out. Or save it to spend on new clothes if I lose weight as a kind of incentive?

What would you do with £100? I could stretch to a bit more one off, or a monthly amount.

Save it for new clothes and sign up with My Fitness Pal.

Buy some weights and do some videos on YouTube, maybe Caroline Girvan.

I dont know if WW still hold groups? I know here in Ireland they dont, its all online

SW, that would get you 4 months of groups, more if you do it online

I like the groups personally, I can cheat left to my own devices. I was 58 when I walked in the door saying I needed to be a size 14 by September - 5 months and they were sure we will get you there in a month, but for me the loss was slow, but I was wearing a 14 in September and a size 12 by December

SW is easy, its not calorie counting, its what they call food optimising,I call it common sense - home cook, dont be relying on tins and jars, fill half your plate with veg, cut the bread and pastry , ease of the wine.

It's a bit more than £100 but I've joined a gym and got a personal trainer!
He's given me cardio goals, calorie and macro goals, a workout programme of weighs and resistance machines.
I've been overweight for literally decades but this is really working for me. I'm stronger, fitter and down a stone in 8 weeks.
It's expensive but so worth it.
I feel very accountable to him ( it's like having your own one to one SW consultant) and very proud of myself. I'm also doing it for health (I'm late 50's) and mental wellbeing.
Thoroughly recommend it if it's financially doable.

Prob freezer containers and a slow cooker for bulk prepping healthy meals to have on hand so you aren't tempted to snack or get takeaway when hungry. Always my downfall. Would cost less than half your budget.

I’ve recently started a life coaching type program for fat loss. It’s about £80 a month. I’m not sure if it’s right for me yet, but it’s certainly interesting learning more about how my brain works around food!

My fitness pal
Some new gym gear
Buy Gillian Michael's 30 Day beginner shred
A set of dumbbells

I came on to suggest Slimpod too - I have really enjoyed it and lost 1.5 St so far (and still going).

Hurdlin · 14/12/2024 17:48

@BarryKentPoet @ponygirlcurtis I've not heard of Slimpod. How does it work? Would love to know more about it if you don't mind.

@Hurdlin The idea is you already know how to lose weight but your mind needs encouragement to make the right choices. It uses motivational videos combined with the daily use of a subliminal audio track. I use mine for falling asleep each night. As I said, I have lost 1.5st and haven't felt like drinking at all for six months, so lots of benefits. £30ish a month for 3 months, after which you still have access to the videos and audio tracks. I liked that you could get a refund after the first month (I think) if you felt it wasn't working for you. There's a Facebook group too.

Weight Watchers ( get the digital only subscription if you can’t or don’t want to go to classes) and get a pair of decent bathroom scales.

The WW programme has changed recently so there are more 0 point foods than before. You’ll get the app as part of the service which means it’s easy to keep track of the points and includes a bar code scanner so you can scan the barcodes of foods in the shops.

Put it towards an Apple Watch - that will remind you to stand regularly and give you a daily calorie burn. Makes a big difference long term. Or maybe some day passes to a gym? Seriously, £100 is not much of a budget if you’re serious.
