Disclaimer, I've lost 6st 5lb over the last 18 months. I'm on saxenda and have been throughout. Not sure it works anymore, but I don't want to stop it just yet.
Anyway, I calorie count and excercise. I do cardio 3x a week and weight train 3x a week (progressive overload). I also upped my neat hugely.
I've hit a bit of a plateau so to speak where my weight is up and down the same couple of pounds and not dropping further. I daily weigh as my losses are slow and I'd miss them with a weekly weight. So this works for me.
For Novemver I challenged myself to meet my activity targets daily, so 8k steps, 90 min activity, burn 300 cal min. I met it for 27 days of November. I tracked that I burned 19500 cals over the month. I had my 40th, and 3 days of eating more, plus one meal out. The rest of the days my cals were at 1300. I should have lost around 4lb, but I haven't.
I've just weighed myself on the machine at the gym. It shows I've gained weight, but lost body fat and gained muscle. I think this is right, and it's in the right direction. But I'm having a hard time looking at my weight and thinking it could go up further or not lose.
My bmi is still 27.1. I'm not toned. I've got fat rolls. So I have to lose at least 5kg more of body fat minimum. Possibly some more.
Do I just keep doing what I'm doing? I'm conscious that it's December, and for 2 weeks over Christmas whilst I'll maintain my excercise, my eating will be at least 500cal per day more simply due to the amount of family meals and occasions we have to go to (2 sets of divorced parents for a start!).
Having a bit of a wobble. I've attached what I saw in the gym today for reference.

I plateaud for six months earlier this year, having gained ten pound over Christmas last year. I believe in the set point theory, you can read up on it. My body likes being 200lb, and even on Mounjaro as I have been for 18m and eating less that 1000 cals a day it refuses to let go. Finally it has shifted and I am 194 but I know my next set point is 189 and I don't want to get stuck there for six months. My advice, as you asked. Don't indulge over Christmas keep doing what you have been doing assuming you have recalibrated your tdee and calories as you dropped weight and your body will trust you and let go eventually p.

Everythingaches · 06/12/2024 11:34

16 8 fasting has been working for me past few weeks. My bmi is 26 now I think

ThisMustBeMyDream · 06/12/2024 11:50

I should have said, I naturally fast as I don't eat until lunch, so generally at least 14 hours, usually 16 hours though.

I was actually wondering about stopping it as I read something to say it wasn't a great idea. I only do it because I'm not hungry in the morning. Always been that way. I could eat, but I'm not bothered. Once I start eating, then I am hungry for the rest of the day so I try to limit that!

It will be very difficult to not over indulge as such as we will be provided meals at family. I can't really dictate on that one. Obvious thing would be to eat less, but I will 100% be hungry if I do, and then go and over eat in compensation. I'm better to eat to satiate and accept the food will be higher calorie than I'd normally have.
I'll have a look at that theory. I've never really had that as an issue. I've not plateaued as such before. Slow losses, and some gains yet, but trending down. This is a new one for me. I've lost th8s weight before. Several times. I'm at the lowest weight I've ever been and lost the most I ever have, and have made the biggest changes to my life that I ever had too. Just hoping I'm going in the right direction. I'm still winging it really.

Well done on the weight loss so far!

I don't think you should cut more calories - I mean, technically you can but I don't think it will be a very pleasant experience.

Your body is probably used to the activity you're doing, and the calories burned is really not to be trusted as a number.

How heavy are you lifting? Could you try reducing the cardio, push the weight training harder, and increase steps to 10k+? Body sometimes need different stimulus to get going. Do you eat much protein?

ThisMustBeMyDream · 06/12/2024 12:04

Yes, I increased protein. Tend to be 90-100g per day.
Weights wise, I've maxed out the leg press at the gym, so I'm doing 25 reps of 190kg (6 sets). But my arms aren't as good. Arm extension is 10 reps (3 sets) at 55kg. Pulldown 10 reps at 55kg (3 sets). I can't quite get up to 60kg yet.
Free weights I'm using 12kg to do overhead press - 8 reps (3 sets). I do at least 9 different exercises each time I go. My steps generally are over 10k. I just gave myself wiggle room as I work 3 days a week and these are MUCH harder for me to get them in. Today I'll do 12-14k on my day off. Yesterday I just tipped the 8 and that was going on the treadmill on my lunch and again after work before rushing to pick the kids up. It's really hard for me on those days unless it's also a gym day.

That sounds like a lot of reps for leg press. Do you do free weight squats?
To stimulate muscle growth you should aim for 8-12 reps per set until the last rep is a struggle (not quite to failure but close).
You might want to incorporate more compound movements in your routine - squats, deadlifts, bench press. Overhead press is great though.
What's your cardio like, apart from the walking?

ThisMustBeMyDream · 06/12/2024 12:17

It is, but a month or so ago I maxed out on the weight, it goes no higher. So all I can do is more reps and sets. I just upped it today from 20, and 25 was close to failure.
I do aim for close to failure. Those are my points of close to failure, and gradually increase the weight.
I do squats, bench press, some I'm not sure of the names but they are compound movements. I had a PT session to show me some.
Cardio I do a 30 min lose weight routine on the treadmill. It's a bit like the couch25k thing. I also add in an incline walk (on max incline) for 10 minutes. I've also recently started seeing how long I can run for as that's always been my nemesis. So at the minute I do a 15 min run once or twice a week too.

Well done on getting fit and on your weight loss! Is it possible that when you're eating well and exercising, this is just your body's natural/happy weight?

unsync · 06/12/2024 12:50

A PT at my gym recommended using Tabata for helping to get rid of fat fast. It's a very intense form of HIIT, but you can get through it quite quickly. I've done it on a bike, but I've seen people do it on the treadmills too.

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 06/12/2024 13:06

Honestly you are doing tonnes.
If you are tracking all your cals properly I don’t think you can cut much further with that level of exercise.
I’d suggest mixing it by changing your exercises.

try doing some different classes or different exercises.
build a routine that includes burpees / push ups / TRX a Zumba, spin and HIIT class?
running or swimming maybe?

also up water intake and be patient
well done though

I’m 75kg and plateauing and it’s killing me.
hang tough

safetyzone · 06/12/2024 13:14

HIIT/tabata is not a bad idea. But try not to overdo the cardio, especially during plateau. Also sounds like the PT is taking good care of you, would he/she be able to advise?

If you weren't on saxenda I'd say go up to maintenance for a few weeks but I don't know if that works with it. If nothing works, you might just have to ride it out.

safetyzone · 06/12/2024 13:38

Also, I think you can increase your protein even more.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 12/12/2024 21:24

Update: a week later and the weight just went and dropped off! 2lb to be precise. Yesterday and todays daily weighs have shown it... and again at the gym today. So it wasnt a blip on my scales! Bloody Nora, this weight loss thing certainly isn't linear, and it is showing to me that it isn't what you do in that week that counts! I think this is November's effort finally coming to reward me!
I'm officially 6.5st lighter now. 9lb to go to target!
