Lost half a stone without trying

Conscious of being accused of bragging but just hoping my experience applies to and can therefore help others.

I’ve basically spent the last 10 years in a cycle of gaining then losing weight. Decided a couple of years ago that all diets are bullshit - results are always temporary and they all boil down to calorie counting/restriction. Decided wasn’t dieting anymore.

In the last couple of months I’ve lost half a stone unintentionally, changes I made are walking more, eating vegetarian more often but I think the biggest factor has been trying to avoid UPF food.

Haven’t denied myself sweet treats but I’ve been baking - brownies, crumble and custard, cheesecakes - rather than buying crisps and chocolate etc.

Cravings for junk food and the tendency to binge are gone. The weight loss surprised me - only weighed myself because I thought I’d been having too many sweet things and expected to see weight gain.

I read the threads on here about weight loss and I know how hard it is so hoping this is useful to someone out there. Avoiding UPF has really benefited me. Hope this is useful!

We both started slimming world back in September and my results have been amazing, having said that I completely agree, all diets bull and although I should be fully endorsing SW given my results, I have only followed their guidelines very loosely. I have simply cut out all UPF and a lot of processed food. We now stick to the adage of straight out the ground, straight of the animal, straight of the tree.
I have also cut out 90% of carbs, so potatoes, pasta etc are now only once a week max. I used to think I was addicted to sugar to the point I accepted I would be in an early grave but now I can walk through a supermarket and not be tempted by a single bar of chocolate. If I can do it anyone can. Good luck to all who are trying to lose weight.

@Slawit congrats on the weight loss! Not knocking the results at all and different things will work for different people but I’m really hoping this will last this time!

Well done both of you.

I think water retention has a lot to do with it. If your body is getting toxins in it bloats.

I don't eat much upf but have the odd bag if crisps etc. Dh and I enjoy cooking.

Are either of you making more soup? I'm making loads lately. Love it. I don't have a sweet tooth but if crisps were a healthy choice I'd eat my weight in them 🙈

I'm slowly losing weight and bloat.

I did this OP after reading the Dr Jenkinson book. I don't diet, I never feel hungry and the weight just goes.

It's all about the food isn't it? I was thinking this today. I've lost nearly 2 stone over the last year (still got a stone to go). I've started doing more exercise, a lot more, but the real loss has come from stopping snacking on top of what was a reasonably healthy diet.

Toast and cheese as supper every night, a family bag of crisps, 2 choc bars at work and a grab bag of crisps. Cinnamon buns. And then big portions of food....

I've stopped 80% of that mindless snacking. I feel better, I ache less...

The reason why SW works, for those that actually do understand it, is that it pushes you away from UPF and most processed foods and into cooking from scratch

Same as @slawit , I loosely follow SW, have lost 2 stone and maintained for a year and 99% of what I eat is home cooked from as natural ingredients as possible. Sure I still use sauces as in ketchup, mayo etc cos not even Im as mad to be making those when they are so rarely used

White bread is off the menu, shop bought bread is wholemeal pittas. Sweet treats are home made, if not by me, someone local using real ingredients - not made in a factory

Its easy to keep full so not over eating
