Is really going on a diet the only option??

I'll start by saying that I do like my body/body shape for the most part. I like exercising but I don't like looking strong, in fact just a slimmer version of myself would be ok too!

I'm shortish (1.59m) with a longer torso. I look athletic (or that I work out in my DHs words) and I'm a size 8. I'm heavy though! I also don't like following/having to plan a diet.

I do around 5hrs+ of spinning every week plus walking the dogs. I also do some weights while on the bike.

I see people of my weight (68/70kg) and I definitely think they look bigger than me.

I don't think I eat much, I tend to eat the same every day for ease (apart from dinner).

Breakfast: coffee and 1/4 of a digestive
Snack: 1 banana
Lunch: I slice of toast with one slice of cheese (it tends to be some sort of protein)
Snack 2: 2 carrots + 40g hummus
Snack 3: 50g of full fat greek yoghurt+ 8 blueberries and 3 pecans

Dinner: varies but so far this week:
Mon: 300g of steak plus 4 onion rings
Tue: 3 sausages plus a serving spoon of mash
Wed: three egg omelette+ 2 slices of bacon+ one baby potato

My goal I guess would be to get to a size 6 in proportion to how I currently look.

If you are weight stable, you are not doing too bad.

Only you can give yourself a good prod around the ribs, hips, thighs etc and decide if you are squidgy (probably not). Or if you have good solid, will last you a lifetime, bones and a reasonable amount of muscle.

With cycling and walking you will have better developed thighs and butt, presume you don't want skinny thighs and a flat bum.

Are you fit and healthy at your weight?
Seems like you are.

Minor tweaks only, fit in more veg, include cabbage and lentils. Remember there are outliers who can be just right with a BMI of 18 or 27.

I've been a stable weight for the past 5 years (post baby).

I'm not squidgy nor flabby really. I'd rather have thin legs BUT then I also lose my butt so it's a matter of choice to an extent.

I'm definitely fit, I can ride for 2+ hours, and run a sub 23 5k, I can run sub 4hr marathons too!

I actually have cabbage and lentils! I shall make something with them over the weekend!

People who weight the same but exercise less will look bigger than you as they'll have less muscle and more fat - the classic saying that muscle weighs more than fat is bullsh!t because a lb of anything weighs a lb! But muscle is more dense than fat so lb of muscle is smaller than lb of fat. You must have a decent amount of muscle to weigh that much and be a size 8 for your height! Your diet is pretty weird though, who on earth eats 1/4 of a biscuit?!?

I've always been that way! I'll have teaspoons of ice-cream, 5 crisps.... always with the "unhealthy" stuff. Apart from pizza! That one I'll eat the whole thing ha ! (Not quite but I love it)

I’d focus less on losing weight and more on your diet tbh.

  • the first thing you’re eating in the morning is sugar
  • hardly any protein
  • not much veg
  • eating little bits every few hours rather than proper meals
  • no priobiotics

If you increased your protein and veg I reckon you’d see a big improvement (and feel better).

Not sure this is a genuine thread... Still, a question: Why are you doing 5h of spinning if you want slimmer thighs? Wrong workout for that!

Chypre · 21/11/2024 13:53

Start off by eating at least 1g of protein per kilo of weight and aim for 30g of fiber daily. If you can fit anything else - go for it, chances are you won’t. 100g of apples only contains 2.4g (two point four grams) of fiber, so to hit than number you need to eat LOADS (of whole fiber rich foods like vegetables, legumes and pulses).

Because I bought a Peloton ! So I'm trying to make the most of my purchase.

I'm originally (and at heart I guess) a runner but don't like running early in the mornings, but I can get on the bike and do my early workout. It's also a good window for my competitive side.

TBH I didn't expect it would do much for my legs BUT once I started doing proper "racing simulation" I noticed a change in my legs and my butt. For the first time I have a solid as opposed to flabby butt.

It has also made my body look more balanced as I haven't gone completely flat chested (which I do with running).

I know u said u forget to eat. But regardless of everything ur body needs fuel to survive and function properly. In what ur eating I’m guessing u maybe have problems else where. U really need to eat more.

Because of my iron deficiency (which is not diet related but a genetic disorder) I get tested regularly for all sorts of things and markers, and nope I'm as healthy as I can be.

I don't feel sluggish or with a lack of energy or anything like that. I sometimes have GI problems but that's down to the iron issue.

I seem to easily retain fluid but that's about it.

I've read so many times on here that BMI is a load of bollocks, and I never believed it until I saw your photos. You look very slim and i good shape. Your diet seems restricted to me- I don't understand having a quarter of a biscuit, that's not going to satiate any hunger but cutting it up into quarters is the behaviour of someone who is very controlling about what they eat imo, as is knowing the amount of blueberries you're eating. I'm saying this as someone with an eating disorder.

Allmarbleslost · 21/11/2024 14:49

You lost me at 1/4 of a digestive biscuit. I'm afraid I can't take you seriously after that.

RuffledKestrel · 21/11/2024 14:57

This is why I find BMI totally inaccurate for us shorties.
To me you look fantastic and do not need to loose any weight. By all means tone up more, but loosing more I think would mean eating even less, or burning evening more, which could lead to deficiency in vitamins and minerals for you.

I'm a little shorter than you and yes, currently weight a whole lot more due to dodgy thyroid issues, but I felt my absolute best when I was around 65kg. Which is well into the overweight category of BMI for my height.
When I did weight a "normal" 55kg for my height I felt like I had little energy and looked very thin/boney.

Don't focus on BMI is my advice. Focus on how you feel. Do you feel like you have energy? Can you focus on things without feeling drained?

Same. I had to double check. A quarter of a digestive is one bite!!

Well it's easy, I share it with my dogs. So I split into 2 and then that into 2 again
1/4 goes to dog A and another one to dog B, then I split it again and dog A gets the extra because she's my fave.

The blueberry counting comes from when I had to count calories 8 years ago. That's how I lost 30+kg. But instead of having weight everything I just came with an average number of blueberries per serving et voilà! Then counting just became a habit.

How would you feel if you made yourself eat one biscuit?

It wouldn't be a problem. I'll switch the digestive for cake if there's been a birthday.

Wafers (like pink panthers) are harder to split, so I have the whole thing for example.

I think the real issue here is that your legs are about 3 inches too short Wink

Completelyjo · 21/11/2024 15:28

It seems strange you wouldn’t include what you class as “side dishes” in your food diary but list out 1/4 of a digestive and 8 blueberries.
How do you break a digestive into quarters every day? Do you bin the rest?
IMO you aren’t being honest about your intake over the week. It’s almost always the case when people think they eat almost nothing.

Because veggies tend to be low in calories anyway! I've already explained the digestive situation already.

You are fit, you are healthy. You exercise hard without a problem and are a size 8.

Kindly, Id say your issue is an over obsession with weight and how your body looks rather than excess weight.

I think you need to check your scales. I weight 67kg, I am 5”8 and size 10 (12 on top). I don’t understand how you can be 6 inches shorter and a size 8, but weigh more than me.

I most certainly am that weight. At the hospital they couldn't believe it either so weighed me twice. So I know it's not just my bathroom scale :)

If you're doing peloton then the power zone pack on FB is best for weight loss or hardcore on the floor
Or both

Power zone is a set challenges of certain rides per week designed to increase fitness
Hardcore on the floor can work with it and its weights/barre/abs

I think some people can be heavy. I posted my weight/BMI on here before and most people asked if my scales were broken
It takes me 3-4 stone to lose ONE dress size
At 16 stone I'm a size 16
