Weight loss injections on BUPA?

Morning All,

I have BUPA health insurance through my husband's work and I was looking if there is a way to get a prescription? I'm sure there is but I'm going around the houses a bit at the mo. I put a general claim in stating that my joints are affected by my weight - which is true but then they sent me links to joint specialists which I don't think is the way to go (I have a condition that affects them which I know about anyway).

I'm under a consultant for my back - is it worth trying to go through him or do I need a weight loss clinic.

Would appreciate any help thanks

From my experience with insurance, private prescriptions are not covered. I even had to pay for medications I was discharged from hospital with.

You are unlikely to be covered for any out-patient drugs and most private health insurance has specific exclusions that they don’t cover any treatment for weight loss. So it’s very unlikely unless your husband’s company have a special agreement to cover these things.

We have Bupa, they definitely wouldn’t cover those. Anything that is a temporary fix (which weight loss injections count as) is not covered.

As others have said, insurance can pay for consultations and may issue a private prescription, but you still need to pay for the medication. It was the same when we took my son through insurance to a private dermatologist for acne as the nhs waiting list was around a year, they issued the prescription but we had to pay hundreds for the roaccutane.

No you have to pay for them yourself.

Speak to buba I have buba same as you from my partners work and they paid for all my prescriptions for the treatment I was having at the time but I do believe that they've now changed their policy on a few things this year
