Hi there, like most of us on this board I’m very much in the ‘been there/ done that’ camp. Diet veteran! Done everything and nothing has stuck. Managed to get down to a healthy weight before children but not sustained and especially since having children. Am now 43, size 22 and it’s getting me down.

Have hormonal (auto immune) disease and an undiagnosed bowel disorder (awaiting investigation) so am not confident to take up weight loss injections at this point due to risk of interaction with my current meds and possible contraindications. (Sucks really as I see lots of people are having great weight loss success with this)

I have seen this new procedure online and wondered has anyone else?

I can’t see that it’s available in the UK currently?

Mumtumtastic · 30/10/2024 14:53

Yeah it does not appear to be available in the UK yet but is in Europe with Belgium, Spain and France our nearest

Am hoping it won’t be long before it is offered in the UK as the concept and results look promising.

Like a gastric sleeve but non-permanent and does not change the anatomy of the stomach permanently. Removable so stomach can be returned to its natural function. Also seems to not cause reflux which can happen with surgical sleeves (at least a much lower incidence) due to how the clip is designed.

I dunno why people get so fixated on the permanence/reversibility of weight loss procedures. Do you think you’d somehow manage to maintain the lower weight if you had the procedure reversed? Or that you’d get down to a healthy weight and feel fab and decide you didn’t like that after all and wanted to be fat and miserable again?

Hi, you do have a good point and as someone (like many of us here) who have struggled with long term weight problems I have tried and considered many different options over the years.

It is not so much the weight loss benefit that is the issue with a reversible procedure, (as we all want healthy permanent weight loss) but more the permanence of altering a vital organ via surgery and the possible negative side effects.

At the moment having weight loss surgery is daunting as there is no way back if you do it and go on to suffer (any number of) life impacting side effects. Such as GERD syndrome, stomach leakage, internal bleeding, dehydration and malnutrition for example.

I guess the difference is with reversible if your body does not tolerate it or cope, have horrendous GERD or start to suffer nutrient deficiencies there is a way back. It does not permanently alter your stomach anatomy. If you encounter health problems that outweigh the benefit of weight loss it can be removed.

In this case it does alter the anatomy of the stomach (in reducing size via the clip) but not permanently. The information about it seems to suggest it is minimally invasive and lower risk than other procedures. The fact that the clip can be removed if you have problems feels like a good fail safe.

But it is a new treatment and there doesn’t seem to be loads of information or testimonies out there yet.
