Is it really unsustainable to keep fast weight loss off?

I just tipped over into the obese category on the bmi scale a couple of weeks ago and it gave me the wake up call I have needed for a long time to do something about it.

I downloaded my fitness pal and have been carefully ensuring I’m in a calorie deficit everyday, eating breakfast, lunch and dinner but making it super healthy, very low carb and low sugar and high protein with lots of veg and some fruit. I’ve massively increased my water intake. My biggest calorie saving has been not finishing off leftovers in the pan or swiping the odd forkful from my kids unfinished plates or utilising my “mum tax” rights when I give them a snack.

I am not feeling deprived of food, I’m not crazy hungry, eating when I feel I need it but making better choices. I have energy and I am feeling good.

the weight is dropping off though - I’ve been losing close to a lb a day. I weigh myself every morning and there is always a loss of between 0.6-1.2lbs. Once I reach the healthy bmi range I don’t plan to stop tracking calories but I do plan on increasing my intake so I’m maintaining, rather than in a deficit and I will continue to weigh myself weekly (instead of daily) so that any increase can be managed before things get out of control again, but I am fearful of the weight just piling back on after as everything I’ve read says that weight loss at this rate is totally unsustainable. Is it really? Or can I lose weight fast and keep it off if I stick within maintenance calories? It’s early days obviously but I do feel like it’s the start of a lifestyle change rather than a diet.

It’s early days so your weight loss will probably slow down soon which isn’t a bad thing. Most initial weight loss is water.

when I started my losses were similar to yours but I found after a while I would plateau for 2-3 weeks then have a big whoosh of losses again.

Hey , as the pp said. Your weight loss will slow down and you will plateau. Nd yes it is a lifestyle change
