Help, something is wrong and I dont know what it is

I have always been on the curvier side, but before my daughter was born, I was considered slim, with a normal BMI and healthy weight. During my pregnancy, I gained quite a bit of weight, but I managed to lose most of it after giving birth, except for about 4kg (around 9 pounds).

However, everything changed when I turned 42. I suddenly gained weight and haven’t been able to lose it since. I exercise regularly, eat very healthily, count calories and macros, and go for walks. In short, I do everything I can to lose weight, but nothing works—absolutely no progress. After realising my efforts weren’t helping, I tried using a weight-loss injection called Saxenda for about three months. Unfortunately, I felt terrible and didn’t lose a single pound. I’m certain that if I weren’t so careful, I’d be gaining weight rapidly. By being cautious, I’ve managed to maintain my weight, but the issue is that I’m in a calorie deficit, yet I still can’t lose weight. At the moment I am 11 kg/ 24 pounds overweight.

I’m feeling desperate and don’t know what could be wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do next? What tests should I ask for when I see my GP? Could hormones be the issue? If so, which hormones should I check? Also, I don’t have a gallbladder—could that be a factor?

Hormone check, perimenopause

Perimenopause

Thyroid check. Mine was destroyed by my immune system after my first child. Quickly lost all baby weight, back in my pre pregnancy clothes within 3 months then steadily packed on 3 stone, all the while being fobbed off that it was PND. Finally got a thyroid test and found my levels were such that the GP was amazed I wasn’t in a coma.

Ask for a comprehensive set of tests to include full thyroid panel and sex hormones.

Yes an under active thyroid can lead to weight gain. If you haven't already, I'd also do a few days of weighing food and carefully checking calories, in case you are eating more than you think. Hope you manage to sort this out.
