One stone down

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 19/10/2024 22:58

Hi I have lost one stone following the ww plan in 6 weeks. I was 16 stone 2 at 5 feet 7 and now one stone lighter. I also do workouts 3 times a week.
I feel disenheatened as it seems nobody notices. How long did it take for anyone to notice your weight loss? I do have 4 stone to go to be fair but I m feeling better.
To be honest my adult dc probably wouldn't notice if I dyed my hair green and gained 10 stone as I m just mum.

I think it’s hard for people that seeyou everyday to notice that you have lost weight. Apparently it takes a lot of weight lost before people notice.
But you are doing this for you not other people. Well done and keep up the good work

I know the feeling! Not many people noticed when I lost a stone (the people who knew I was trying to lose weight kindly said they could see a difference, some were genuine). It got really noticeable at 2st, and I've now lost over 2.5st. I'm 5'2" and was 14st 2lb.

The 2st mark was where I really felt a difference too in that I move more comfortably (eg, at yoga). Bits of my body are emerging from underneath the fat 😄Wrists, ankles, shoulders. I actually sit back on my heels now, rather than balancing on fat thighs & arse. Im petite again (even though im still 1.5st overweight). I weigh less now than I did 16 years ago so it's basically time travel.

Even now some people haven't commented, either they've not noticed or they don't like to say anything (and some just aren't interested, which is fair enough).

Well done, a stone is brilliant (and takes dedication too, I know). Keep going, it's worth it.

I agree with pp. The joy of weight loss is how you feel in your clothes, the way you move and sense of eating for health. All feel good. This is not to under estimate the constant focus required to stay on track.

Keep the faith op. You’re doing brilliantly

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 19/10/2024 23:15

Thank you both. I have tried really hard this month. It's not easy as I work long hours but I have been trying to work out three times a week too.
I actually got to my goal 10 years ago but have been promoted since to a more sedentary job and after my father s death I didn't care at all

Thank you all that should say

People only really started commenting frequently when I got to three stone . After 2 stone those who knew me well commented

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 19/10/2024 23:29

I should know as I have done it before and people only noticed after a 2 stone loss. I just feel I have worked hard (post menopausal 56 years old) and been very strict with myself

Just putting this out there in case it’s relevant. I’ve lost a lot of weight due to lack of appetite because of anxiety and depression due to some bad circumstances (around 3 stone). Colleagues didn't say anything. When weight loss came up in a discussion one day several of them said they didn’t want to comment on it in case it was due to ill health (they didn’t know about my situation). I think weight loss and gain is a sensitive topic to some and they may not know whether it’s appropriate to say anything. Of course I could be wrong, this was just my experience.

Congrats on your weight loss, it’s a huge achievement.

Disturbia81 · 20/10/2024 00:46

It took at least 3 stone for the comments to start coming in and then it avalanched.

Scoobydoobydoo1234 · 20/10/2024 01:40

Lots of people now actively DON'T make a big deal of people losing weight as it reinforces the message that you have to be thinner to be more attractive etc.
I'd celebrate the fact that you're doing so well at moving towards a healthier you and sod what anyone else does or doesn't think. Well done for your achievement 👍

SpidersAreShitheads · 20/10/2024 04:25

Keep going, that’s fantastic!!

Also, have you tried measuring yourself? I had a few weeks where the scales didn’t budge but I was still losing inches off my overall shape.

I’ve found that if you measure yourself it can be a great motivator as you can see where and how the weight is coming off.

If your weight is coming off steadily all over, it might be harder to notice, especially if you’re wearing looser clothing.

I bet people who haven’t seen you for ages might notice, even if they don’t say anything! It’s hard to see slow differences in people we see every day. Don’t feel disheartened, sounds like you’re doing so well!

Jellybeanbag · 20/10/2024 06:37

Well done OP!

I am exactly the same. Lost a stone but a good way to go. I can see a difference in my shape and so can my DH. I can see a difference in my face. I feel happier in myself and its hard work but I'm loving the change, even though its hard work. I can't wait until people notice but I guess it will be at the 2 stone/3 stone mark, as other posters have said.

I agree. A colleague has lost 3 stone in 3 months and I didn't notice until she mentioned it.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 20/10/2024 09:02

To echo PP, measure yourself too. I forgot to do it at the start and was about 3 months in when I first measured. The difference since is fab.

People are definitely reticent to mention weight. I get "You look well" comments which I take as an opener to say yes I've lost 2.5st, isn't that brilliant 😀 I also throw in the more serious point that this has been prompted by a type 2 diabetes diagnosis which I hope to get into remission thru weight loss. Which, annoyingly (but yes good for my health) means I really need not to put it back on again...

I know others have said but well done OP, huge achievement and success

But no, either people wont really notice in the busyness of their lives or they have but arent sure whether its the correct thing to do, ot mention it

Do they risk mentioning it and you feeling patronised and offended, do they not mention it and you feel offended and ignored.

Its a bloody minefield!

You're doing it for you, just enjoy feeling better and more healthy and keep going.

TBH I stopped commenting on people’s weight after I lost a huge amount of weight due to being seriously ill - when people said “wow you look amazing, so thin!!” I’d tell them it was because I was ill, only to then hear that I was lucky Shock People have odd reactions to other people’s weight.
Just lose the weight because it makes you feel better.

Yeah that can feel weird and quite ominous can't it, people saying you look so good when you are not well. It's one step away from saying people with cancer look amazing.

WhitneyBaby · 20/10/2024 10:55

I found people noticed when I lost two dress sizes (just over 2 stone for me) and bought some new clothes.

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 25/10/2024 11:14

Weigh in today and I was a little worried I had indulged in a (Supermarket) pizza and a bottle of wine last weekend but lost another 2 pounds.
15 stone 1 now so 15 lbs so far since 2 Sept.
I recommend tracking everything you eat or drink even the bad stuff as it does work.
I don't care if people don't notice as I feel better and look better in my clothes.
Can't wait to get into the 14st bracket.
Hope everyone is doing well 💗
