Piled on so much weight due to menopause

I can't use HRT but I'm piling on the weight at half a stone or more a week at the moment. I'm meticulously recording my meals and weighing them:

This is typical

Breakfast: 0% greek yoghurt, apple and cinnamon
Snack: banana
Lunch; pasta and salad
Dinner: Grilled meat, 2 or 3 veg portions and a carb.

My calories are totalling 1400 or less a day.

Where am I going wrong?

Oh and I weigh everything.

I've taken on board everything everyone is saying, sorry I'm not replying. Would something like a tuna omelette be a good alternative lunch?

Yes, definitely ! You’ll feel quite full on that and you won’t feel hungry for ages.
You can add a green salad for fibre. I make a dressing from vinegar or lemon plus olive oil with salt and pepper. Just to coat it and add flavour and you don’t need much.
For puddings I like plain Skyr. I add berries which are the lowest carb fruit. If I prefer it a bit sweeter I sprinkle Stevia sweetener ( made from Stevia leaf, so natural)
I also stew cooking apples and sweeten with Stevia. But to be honest, by the time I’ve had a protein packed main I’m too full for pudding anyway.

You’ll probably find, very quickly, that you don’t miss the carbs and when you do go back to them you feel stodged up !

There was an interesting study done that showed people continue to eat until their protein requirements are met, regardless of calorie intake. Definitely prioritise protein, and you'll find your carbohydrate-hunger reduce.

I'm another one who thinks you should see the GP as a matter of urgency. If you're genuinely only eating what you've listed and ate gaining half a stone a week then something is wrong.

Why are you being so argumentative? Not being able to lose weight CAN be a menopause issue.

Gaining half a stone a week is a medical emergency and giving up fibre, vegetables and carbs is not going to solve it.

If you made a typo, please can you say true weight gain pattern. Otherwise, seek urgent medical help. Have you had a poo in the last two months?

Adding to the chorus that a pound a day is not normal menopausal weight gain so please see your GP. That is not something that will be stopped by tweaking the carb and protein content of 1400 calories per day.

MaryGreenhill · 20/10/2024 15:04

Honestly if you can afford it and are given the okay from your GP think about starting Mounjaru .
