Resetting eating habits

Could you share your stories how you have reset your eating habits in order to lose and maintain healthy weight?

After having 2nd DC and going back to office job I found myself always snacking, weight steadily creeping up, went from 14 to 16, to 16 getting tight. Checked BMI and it was 30!
Not sure what got into me but I've decided to loose weight, and get back to healthy weight range. It's only been 1.5 weeks but I'm 4lb lighter. It may not sound like much, but my knees stopped hurting and I already have so much more energy!
I've realised that my snacking was the issue. It was out of control. I still have a long way to go but I hope I can stay on track.

Intermittent fasting really helped me recalibrate eating habits and snacking habit. Good luck, great start.

The blood sugar diet really worked for me, there's an initial (8 week) plan (I think?)

I found after my appetite had changed and that processed sweet stuff tasted really unpleasant and cloying.

Intermittent fasting also helped me. Along with documenting everything (when you realise how many calories are in something it really alters your perspective).
I went from a 14/16 to a 6 and have maintained for a year still keeping to the same principles, but allowing some flexibility (so measure calories over a week rather than a say allowing meals out etc without worrying I'll put the weight back on or being flexible with the IF).

Cutting out artificial sweeteners has really helped me. I didn't eat a lot of ultra processed food but cutting back further has also made a difference. I plan my days food every morning, allowing for healthy snacks when I know I'm at risk of reaching for something unhealthy. Telling myself what I can eat keeps me on track. It means I don't think about food and I don't go rogue 😂. 16lbs down, 11 to go in an ideal world but will stop calorie counting for December.

I've maintained for the last 18 months having lost 2.5 stone. (Size 14/16 to a 10). I limit calories to 2200 approx, 6 days a week, don't ever drink calories, make sure I have protein, healthy fat, carbs at every meal. Plan my food each day. Lots of fruit, veg, nuts, seeds, very little UPF. I eat 3 meals a day but have a few healthy snacks too. I exercise or walk every day. I also drink loads of water & tea. Well done on your loss so far!

Eggs for breakfast every day with some veg (usually leftover veg from last night's meal so its easy to put together in the mornings).

Minimal sugar.

Protein with every meal / snack.

Getting enough sleep - when I am sleep deprived I crave sugar.

I calorie counted everything that went into my mouth. And I mean every tiny morsel. I went from 13 stone 1 to 9stone 10.

u would be surprised how many calories are in such simple things. Also join a gym. I really didn’t want to. But actually I really enjoy it.

A few things that worked for me: Reducing to two meals a day by not eating until the middle of the day, brunch with protein (often include grilled tomatoes as lovely savoury taste I look forward to with few calories), bbc good food website for dinner with loads of easy, tasty calorie counted recipes. Also - getting rid of the office based job 😊, though that might not be an option for you. I've found it easier to 'postpone' and look forward to eating in the morning than to completely give up snacking, though that might not work for everyone. That's great that you have made a good start. Keep going and good luck 🤞
