Hi need some motivation. I'm 38. 39 in December. And I know I need to lose weight. Cos my knees ache. And my hips too. Feet also. I'm currently 18st 8lbs. I know what I gotta do. But I'm an emotional eater. Stress eater. Can I have some advice please. Or tips much appreciated

@josyjose I can imagine that I will be criticised for suggesting this. But the issues you described could be successfully addressed by weight loss injections. I'm using Mounjaro, specifically. Is that a possibility for you, finances wise and otherwise?

It’s easier said than done. You have literally said you know what you need to do. It won’t be easy… but break it down. Start with small changes.
I’m in the same situation, I know what I need to do - but doing it at the minute is difficult !

In the past I cut carbs out of my evening meal. I love potatoes and put them with everything nearly in some form. So for an evening meal I’d have chicken, mushrooms & tomatoes. Or like Salmon broccoli, carrots bur get creative with it so you actually enjoy it.

Maybe start journaling too. Then you can see wrote down what you eat, start a tick chart or something and you might feel good when you’ve had a “good” day diet wise and gain traction with it x

Try the Nutracheck app. There is a free trial but then you have to pay. You can scan the barcodes from your food or weigh it to see how many calories you are eating. Nothing is banned. I've been using it for about 5 weeks am finding it really good, and have learnt a lot about portion sizes and what has hidden sugars etc

Read 'the Diet Trap Solution' by Judith S Beck.
Its excellent and it addresses emotional eating. I was not overweight but I did binge eating for emotional reasons. It was a game changer for me. Hope helpful! Gd luck xx

How will mounjaro fix emotional eating once you come off it? (Genuine question, appetite is not an issue for me as I eat when I’m full constantly). You need to do lots of work as well as mounjaro as well I imagine? So if appetite suppression is not needed, why the jabs?

The free trial of Noom (but remember to stick the cancellation date in your diary) has a lot of help in unpacking the emotional side of why we overeat. You might like it. It's a bit like CBT.

You could try completely cutting out sugar and high-sugar foods to see if that shifts cravings as well. I find on days that I have something sweet, I find it really hard not to graze.

Logging the calories of what you eat (everything including sugary drinks) can be helpful as well.

The other thing I like is the recipes in the Fast 800 books. There are some on the website as well.

@MassiveSalad22 it enables you to maintain a calorie deficit for many weeks and months, and therefore lose the weight. Whilst you're doing that and not in the grips of food obsession you have time to change and embed habits for when you need to stop taking the injections. I'd rather be dealing with emotional/stress eating whilst at a healthy weight than whilst remaining morbidly obese.
