Orlistat worth trying?

I was wondering if anyone was up for sharing their experiences on orlistat? It’s been recommended by the GP as an option (BMI currently 34) but I can’t quite get my head around how it actually works. My understanding is that you need to eat very low fat to stop the horrible oil-slick side effects so surely this is the reason why you’re losing weight rather than the drug itself? The idea that it expels extra fat from your body would mean surely that’s only helpful if you’re still eating a high fat diet (but you suffer the consequences?)

I’d actually love to try it though so am not trying to be negative. Just getting my head around what is can actually offer. I’m sadly not in a position to pay for the injections (and I’m scared of long term impact)

I’m in a terrible cycle of losing and gaining the same 2 stone. I have to eat under 1400 calories a day to lose weight (despite being 18 stone and 5’11”) and if I eat more than 2000 calories the weight piles back on. I’m physically very well with no thyroid issues etc.

Would be great to hear people’s experiences,

thanks 🙂

You be much better off going for mounjaro as it has a much higher success rate.

Or list at just gave me a dodgy tummy and I never lost any weight. On mounjaro I'm 10 weeks inss as no more than 1.5 stone down.

I have tried it, wouldn’t again. Unpleasant.

also I think fat is a important part of your diet, so to eliminate it isn’t healthy.

Agree with prior poster re miunjaro or ozempic etc

Absolute waste of time. Take a proper weight loss medication like Mounjaro

Thank you. Sadly just not financially viable for me to use the injections 😕

You could probably get it prescribed at 18 stone. I know they don’t make it easy but you can do it

I tried it for a while and it was pretty nasty. You don't need to eat a high fat diet for it to work, it basically eliminates about 50% of the fat you eat, and that doesn't have to be a lot!
I developed a real fear of the 'follow-through' while out and about, I'm not sure how people plan their days, on a practical level, as you can get caught out at any time. I did lose weight though and yes it's much cheaper than jabs.
