Why can’t a calorie defeat be straightforward?!

I’m an absolute pro at calorie counting! I’ve done it several times stick to it even at the weekends! My aim is to lose a pound a week but I put in my goal loss of 1.5pounds pw for any discrepancies which would be very minor but the last 2-3 weeks the scales have just shot up and down ranging from pinging me from 10:6 to 10:2 this morning!

When by my calculations I should have been back in the 9s this week or by the next week at the latest! I’m getting so disheartened I had the week from hell last week and I cried so much I definitely have fluid retention and there’s no way I hit even 1300 calories from feeling so sick with grief!

Why can’t it just be that your doing what your suppose to the results are consistent?! I’m only 5”2 so my defecit daily is 1380cals a day! I had a bad nights sleep last night maybe why it’s getting to me more! Just a rant really when you think consistency is key so you ARE consistent but the results are just soo disheartening!

Im going on holiday in two weeks and I know I physically am muchhhhh slimmer because of clothing! I want to be 9.7 by December so no huge rush I think I’m getting to have to have a treat once a fortnight few gins or a takeaway as this is taking the proverbial piss!!

Lol sorry ladies! Anyone else feel totally beat?! Xx

Weight loss isn't linear, and the number on the scales isnt reflective of fat loss. As you've said, water retention affects it, as does the amount of muscle you have, hormones play a major role for women, the list goes on...

Please stop only using the scales as a measure of your success. If you've been in a deficit consistently, you will get smaller over time. If you're feeling better due to eating healthier that's a win too. If your clothes are fitting better or your measurements are changing that's also a sign of success

Please don't rely on the scale, or an arbitrary number that you've made up, to decide whether or not you're succeeding.

Scales can be misleading, you can vary significantly day to day.

I had surgery recently and according to my scales gained 7lbs pretty much over two nights in hospital. Obviously this was not really reflective of my size but of the impact of all the fluids I'd be given and the reaction of my body. A week later I weighed a 1lb less than when I was admitted.

Use them as a guide, to show trends over time, but there is no point judging anything based on readings that will change from morning to night. Better to see how clothes fit or take your measurements.

True I suppose but it’s extremely frustrating when you know full well your following your defecit maybe I need to drink more water or do something I did order all size ten from shein for my holiday in two weeks and it all fits! I walk soo much! So believe it or not around 10stone is a size 10 for me I’m hoping it was last weeks grief and the scales go down xx

@Babsexxx I know we can get attached to numbers, but really - if you're the size you want, why does it matter what the scale number is? What difference does that actually make?
