Do you use the low fat noodles/rice?

I've just started using them. Take a bit of getting used to but keep me full with hardly any calories or fat.
I used half a packet of noodles today with air fried roast vegetables (pepper, spring onions and tomatoes) sprinkled chilli flakes salt and pepper and stirred in a teaspoon of peanut butter and juice of half a lime. Fresh coriander would have been nice but dh used the last of it last night.
Not as nice as normal noodles but edible.

Any other ideas appreciated.

I wasn’t aware there was any other type of rice other than low fat.

pd339 · 07/08/2024 14:34

I think you must mean low carb, eg the Konjak stuff?

alrightluv · 07/08/2024 16:10

Yes low carb

They may be low in fat but you will probably find that they are high in carbs/sugar.

alrightluv · 07/08/2024 16:31

@Touty no low carb

Do you mean like the skinny noodles? The texture is horrible for me, they are really slimy. I just eat Wholegrain rice or even cauli rice is nice

alrightluv · 07/08/2024 16:34

@Menora did you boil them before dry pan frying? Definitely taste better. I just need ideas for recipes. Think I'll try YouTube? That's where I saw to boil first.

I eat wholegrain rice too and normal pasta. These are for occasional use. I can only get away with cauliflower rice if I fry with onion and lemon and spices. Like a pilau.

I would eat them if I was desperate but I would rather go without. I am a texture person 😂 that’s just me. Cauli rice has a nice bite to it

Yes, I use them a lot because they're virtually zero carb.

They're not quite good enough to replace spaghetti - although I do sometimes use them like that. But they work best in a stir-fry and Vietnamese-type soup dishes.

Plump82 · 07/08/2024 16:46

I really like them in ramen.

LillithNotEve · 07/08/2024 16:49

I used to eat these. I used to get the rice and the noodles. The thought of eating them now turns my stomach though.

I'd rather have cauliflower rice and cabbage 'noodles' or courgetti.

alrightluv · 07/08/2024 16:59

@Plump82 I'll have a go at Ramen

@LillithNotEve I couldn't eat them regularly. They aren't a treat just keep me full for ages.

Life is just too short

Ive switched to wholewheat pasta and brown rice and measure a portion and fill it with as much veg as I can get combined in it to fill me

I throw in whatever flavours I have going, rice wine, soy, balsamic, lea and perrins, chilli, lemon juice, lime juice , balsamic - not all together , just give something a whirl :)

I also like combining roasted veg with couscous as that really soaks up flavour

alrightluv · 07/08/2024 17:13

@suki1964 I get what you're saying. I wouldn't make them for dh and I. They're something I eat when home alone and don't hate them, but definitely don't love them.We eat lots of veg etc usually. Had sesame salmon with veg and small portion of wholegrain rice the other night. Satay skewers with salad last night.

Don't feel the need to justify eating them. I get why you do and I do the same. It's also great to be able to save a fair amount of calories if that's something you also do. I won't deny they absolutely honk but in ramen, Vietnamese, Chinese style food i think they work well. I used to get them from Farm foods and they were only a £1. Think I bought them all as I've never seen them since!!

Try glucomannan drinks instead. Bit more palatable but same stuff pretty much.

@Plump82 and @LillithNotEve thanks
