Sorry that sounds as if I put a stone on on holiday - I didn't - in fact didn't put oo anything on that holiday as what I wanted to eat was very little as I had just come out of abstinence.

The extra stone has been put on over a year. Last november it was about half a stone and that was when I went back and signed up for the month but didn't actually do it and ended up with more foodpacks. You have to be in the right frame of mind for abstinence and I wasn't really then - it has taken me up until now to do that.

blossomsmine · 11/05/2008 23:14

No you didn't sound at all abrupt dalek. You don't know how helpful i am finding your posts! I really am, thanks!
I have read through what you said and i understand what you are saying, i think you have done amazingly.
I think i am in the right frame of mind, i am still abit worried, like you say, about the social situations etc., and sometimes i feel abit sorry for myself about missing out of things for the next 100 days....
Anyway, i went to a 'drop in' session and had lost 3lbs in two days, am i mad cos i was abit disappointed! I think i just want everything so quickly but i surely can't carry on losing that much each two days...? Think it would have been better if i had waited a week for a weigh in and would have been over the moon about say...4/5lbs, its all in the mind i think!
I had to pay £40 for my docs certificate so what with that and the weekly payment i suppose i need to give it the best chance i can. Thanks again

Hi Blossomsmine - how are you doing?

Although it is unreasonable I understand exactly what you mean about being dosappointed at losing 3 lbs in 2 days - BUT remember that is a fantastic loss as it's over a pound a day.

I know 100 days seems like a long time but it will be over relatively quickly - try to focus on something lovely that's going to happen after the 100 days ae over - or book yourself something - night out at the theatre, facial whatever.

And also do focus on the cost - that kept me on the straight and narrow - I wasn't going to spend £66 a week to cheat and not lose weight.

All the best - keep posting - I usually check in every couple of days or so - it would be nice to hear from you.

blossomsmine · 13/05/2008 22:01

I'm doing ok (just) dalek!

You have made me laugh though, i was just thinking to myself, i mustn't break this LL thing, cos dh will go mad because of the money i am spending....then i read your post! Too right, if anything will keep me going it is the money lol!

Today i have been feeling a little bit hungry and also fed up with keep supplying the rest of the family with lots of lovely food......been abit grim today i suppose But i go to the class tomorrow so hoping for abit of a weight loss to spur me on, will post and let you know!

dalek · 15/05/2008 09:48

Blossomsmine

How did you get on at the weigh in?

blossomsmine · 15/05/2008 22:27

6lbs for the week! I am really pleased, although the lady did say it could possibly have been a bigger weight loss as my first week. But theres not much i can do about that as i have done what i am supposed to!! Anyway, 6lbs is nearly half a stone so i am pleased!
Thanks dalek. How are you doing?

dalek · 15/05/2008 23:52

Well done blossosmine - fantastc weight loss - bit of a strange thing for your counsellor to say!

I'm fine but a bit bored - have lost 7 lbs in just under 2 weeks so I am happy.

Have a great weekend - will check in on monday.

blossomsmine · 17/05/2008 09:46

Well, thats brilliant! Nice to see that it still works when you go back to it for that little bit of extra weight loss

Yes, i was abit 'put out' when she said that thought she was supposed to be enouraging!! But, i didn't let it put me off, i do tend to be abit slow at losing weight so thats not a surprise, although everyone always says how LL is a really quick weightloss so i suppose i kind of expected about 10lbs! Anyway, it is more than i have ever lost in a week on slimming world or ww's so it is working for me!
Going this morning for a pop in! I don't really like pop ins, cos it is only a couple of days since the last weigh in and i am worried i will get down hearted if i have only lost, say, a 1lb or even worse nothing!
Anyway, i have to go, so will let you know later what happens!!
Speak to you Monday Enjoy your weekend too!

dalek · 19/05/2008 18:54

Hi Blossomsmine - how did you get on on saturday? Hope you had a good weekend.

blossomsmine · 20/05/2008 22:29

Hi dalek sorry i haven't been on before! I lost another 1lb and half on Saturday (my two day weigh in) quite happy with that, as i think that takes me to 7 and half lbs now! Now, i have to go on Wednesday for the full week weigh in......thing is i have kind of stopped drinking my water, so i am worried it will show in the weight loss, the weather changed and i just haven't fancied drinking all that...oh dear!

blossomsmine · 22/05/2008 21:53

Weight loss for the week......1 and half pounds from the Sat weigh in plus 2 and half from the Wed one, so a total of 4lbs for the second week. That is 10lbs in two weeks, really pleased....just wish i could notice the weight loss!!

dalek · 23/05/2008 00:53

You will - and so will other people - that's when it gets really good.

Well done - keep up the good work.

BTW - I found drinking all that water the hardest thing as well but I have to admit my biggest weight losses were in the weeks that I drank the most - just do as much as you can!

giggly · 23/05/2008 20:47

Hi I have been lurking for a few weeks now. I have been inspired by a colleague who lost 4 stone in 5 months, however I am ttc#2 and Ia m reluctant to start if I have to stop suddenly as I imagine that its not great if you are pregnant and did not wan to waste £ 250 for 4 weeks.
Has anyone done this when pregnant? I couldn't find any info on the website.

blossomsmine · 25/05/2008 21:54

giggly, i am not sure if you can do this if you are pregnant, i am sure it says that somewhere on the website. If you want i can ask my LL lady on Wednesday, just let me know.

Dalek, i think you might be right about the water, i do tend to seem to lose more when i have drank alot, this weeked in just don't seem to be able to get stuck into the water....

Anyway, another 1lb and half for the last couple of days so that is 11 lbs now Not even a month so far!!! Feeling happy, but also feeling i want to eat something..

mrspnut · 28/05/2008 13:59

You can't do this when pregnant or within 3 months of giving birth. I think you have to decide to put the ttc on hold whilst you lose the weight or lose the weight after giving birth.

I'm on week 11 now and I've lost over 3 1/2 stone so far which I'm really pleased about - I also feel fantastic and working out at the gym is definitely much easier since losing the weight.

Blossomsmine - definitely get the water down, if you don't drink at least 4l then you will not lose as much weight as you could and you will end up with constipation. I usually drink at least 5l a day and more if I can and it shows in my weight loss.

blossomsmine · 03/06/2008 18:55

Thanks mrspnut, i really need to try harder with the water, just some days it is the last thing i want. You have done fantastically with your weight loss

I have now lost 13 lbs i go again in a few days and hope to have lost a few more!

Grrlscout · 05/07/2008 11:05

I've been reading this thread with great interest - how did it work out for you, blossomsmine, dalek, mrspnut and everyone else on LL?

I'm about to start LL - my group starts Tuesday after next.

I know it might sound like a daft question, but did you find that being on LL affected how you coped with stress? As luck would have it, my group is starting two days before a massive annual event at work. It's all hands on deck for the last five days of my first LL week, with lots of excitement and stress in the air... and I'm worried that being in my first LL week will mean I'm not going to be able to do my job effectively.

Am I being silly?

SpikeRed · 26/07/2008 22:37

Have been on LL for 7 weeks and have lost 21lb but have lost most when have drunk most water which i find difficult. I'm pre menstrual this week which usually means I eat non stop. I'm struggling this week and fell off the wagon today eating some goats cheese and a sausage. I reasoned that eating protein would have the least impact. Now I'm feeling really guilty almost to the point of giving up so that I don't have to stand on the scales next week and see that I've gained weight. Has anyone had a bad day when they've eaten and still lost weight?

dalek · 15/08/2008 13:46

Hi everyone - haven't posted for a while as I haven't managed to shift the weight. I know that LL works but abstinence ishard until you get in to the swing of things.

I have made an appointment to see a cambridge diet counsellor on Monday - it's made by the same people who make LL but you don't gt your 2 hourly class - this appeals as I don't want to sign up for 12 weeks to foundation but I don't want to go to adrop in class either - hopefully one to one of CD will keep me on the straight and narrow.

How is everyone else doing?

wraighty · 30/08/2008 00:04

Thinking of doing LL as have about 5 stone to lose and nothing seems to be working, tried all slimming clubs and exercise etc. Lose about a tone at a time but then lose focus, I eat fairly healthly five a day etc but do like the odd sweet! Really worried I will permanantly damage my metabolism doing this crash diet though!

Any advice from anyone?

chrispt · 28/06/2010 23:35

The Cambridge diet and lighter life diet is an incredibly dangerous starvation diet based on an element of treatment employed by surgeons who needed patients to lose large amounts of weight prior to life saving heart surgery. The rational being, that the irreparable damage caused to the body was preferable to death.

As a personal trainer, nutritional advisor and weight management consultant for Sussex Police, i would advise all but those recommended this diet by a coronary specialist to steer well clear.

From my own experience:
One of my clients was trying lighter life without telling me. She had amazing weight loss results. However, it became clear the damage being done when her hair started falling out and her periods stopped.

Lighter life gives you 500-800 calories per day to survive on. The average female base metabolic rate (BMR- the amount used to keep you alive:breathing, brain function, digestive and immune systems) is around 900cal.

Contact a personal trainer or nutritional advisor for valid and safe information
