Does anyone know anything about protein rda when overweight

I'm trying to aim for the recommended daily protein intake. Everywhere I've looked says the same 0.8g per kg of body weight. For the time being that's a LOT of protein! Does anyone who works in nutrition know if the calculation is based on actual weight or ideal weight? It seems such an obvious question but I can't find the answer anywhere.

It's generally recommended to calculate it based on your target bodyweight.

Bare in mind though that 0.8g per kg bodyweight as RDA means it's enough to stop you getting sick, but not necessarily optimum. Eg for me, that'd be 48g a day. Whilst I could be healthy on that, I'd be bloody hungry! Protein tends to be quite filling and eating a bit more than RDA can help to reduce sugar cravings and leave less room for the carb heavy food that is easy to overeat (bread, pasta, chips, chocolate etc)

It's finding what works for you that's important
